Eye'z voice us sweet as honey - Jamsphere

On June 12th Eye’z performed with special guest Kerry T at the San Mateo County Fair. The event is a great attraction for families and kids that lasts nine days. It’s a community event that offers outdoor stages for artists like Eye’z and Kerry T to show their talent. These stages are programmed with family friendly performances. Who doesn’t remember going to such fairs when they were children or even as adults? One of the fairs my city used to have every year was something that I never missed. It was three days long and had many events similar to the San Mateo County Fair. One of my favorite activities was the performances of up and coming singers/groups, such as Eye’z and Kerry T. Our local radio station would host these performers. One of those groups when I was younger was Escape. That show, where they sang just a few of their songs, was when I became a huge Escape fan. I still am to this day, even though they aren’t as popular as they once were. So not only are these shows a good place for professional performers to perform, they are also a great place for those who love music to go to learn about performers that you may have never heard of before. These fairs and festivals often have talents such as Eye’z and Kerry T who are people that you want to discover. And if you’ve already discovered them, even better! You get a chance to see them perform.

Since the Fair is a family friendly event, they of course have activities for children. One of those activities this year was the Keokits pop up truck. Keokits is a company who makes it easier to be a teacher! Teachers go to the keokits website, make their back-to-school supply list, and Keokits posts the list on their website. Parent’s then can forget about going to the store and have a box delivered right to their home of everything on their child’s teachers supply list. This way the students will be better prepared for school when it starts. If teachers and parents utilize this service, the teachers won’t have to worry about kids having the proper supplies at the beginning of the school year, the parents won’t be stressed making sure their kids have all the supplied they will need, and the kids will be better prepared right from the first day of school. This means it’s a win-win situation for everyone. Part of the Keokits exhibit at the San Mateo County Fair was the Keokits pop-up truck. Part of the fun in the pop-up truck was a real life selfie app. It’s a photo booth with plenty of props to help make taking selfies fun. After they were done performing, Eye’z and Kerry T went to the pop-up truck to take some selfies. They took several with props including one where Eye’z was wearing a pink princess crown and Kerry T was holding up a black panther mask. In another one Eye’z was holding a toothbrush and Kerry T is holding an emoji over his face.

"Eye'z enjoys acting and is excited about having the opportunity to bring a character to life on stage. She told me the best thing about doing theater is being able to witiness the audience reactions and hearing their comments to what's happening on stage.

She does admit that all the hours and effort put into rehearsal can be kind of grueling at the end of the day she's creating art and that's it all worth it.

Personally when listening to Eye’z music I can hear some strong pop influences. Bands and artists such as Michael Jackson, Jessie McCartney and other classic Motown artists come to mind in a respectful way. Dynamic changes between songs such as “Stop” and “Diamond Tears” show a deeper meaning behind Eye’z music. The expressive changes between the tempo and emotion of her music shows that she sees no boundaries when writing songs. Eye’z certainly enjoys experimenting with many different types of ways which pop music is usually written and produced, this certainly gives her a unique twist as an artist.

The song entitled “Damaged” truly expressed Eye’z passion for her music. Her rich and warm vocals throughout this song show the range which she is capable of. As well as Eye’z vocal abilities we are also able to hear her attractive piano playing which compliments her song writing skills. Usually in pop music generic digital computer sounds are added for effect, “Damaged” however plays well to avoid these generic aspects and instead continually use’s only the natural sounds of both Eye’z voice and piano playing talent.

Pop singer Eye'z was recently chilling at Club 21 when she was approached by some of her fans and they asked her pose in a picture with them. Since Eye'z is one of the few artists who truely appreciation the love she receives from her fans, she happily posed for the picture with these wonderful ladies.

I'm sure they had a good conversation, shared some laughs and enjoyed a few cold beverages together. You have a great talent playing piano and singing, could you tell us a little history of how you learned everything and you got to where you are today with your music?

I learned how to play the piano from my family and my self. I grew up in a house with a piano. My mother and her 2 sisters all majored in music. They were also popular singers in Oakland in the 50's.

OB: You've developed an interesting artist perspective toward your music. Your "sobbing music and diamond tears," intro is very curious. How would you describe the relation of this introduction to you're the music you write?



Eyez: Thank you, the relation to my music is that with every note I write comes from my heart. including my lyrics. Be it about love, hate, crimes or any event.



OB: Your mother and sisters are music majors along with an aunt who is involved in opera. Sounds like you have a lot of support for your projects, how does your family influence or come into play?



Eyez: They influence my career in a negative way. They always have something bad to say about my music and how its not right and what music should be or sound like.



OB: At what age did you begin playing the piano?



Eyez: Its hard to say because I grew up with a piano around me.

The first songs I played on piano was Jesus loves me, and I played some where over the rainbow (the melody) by ear as well as a part of that world by the little mermaid.



OB: When creating a new song, do you have a typical formula?



Eyez: I guess the only formula is to try to trick the listener.



OB: I've read that Aaliyah is your greatest musical influence. Who are some of the others?



Eyez: Michael Jackson, Judy Garland, and honestly the Little Mermaid and Jessica Rabbit.



OB: Is there any new studio time coming up?



Eyez: No



OB: Are you looking for a label deal, or do you prefer staying independent?



Eyez: Well both. I like being independent because at times I get to do what I want to do, but I dont have the money to do it. I like being indie because I can network with people I feel comfortable with. And the final say so is always me. I cant let any one control my music or public persona.



OB: Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?



Eyez: I have no idea but i think i know why your asking. lol



OB: The move from California to Orlando is a big step. What are you looking to accomplish most here?



Eyez: To become a POP star!

Her latest single “…Still a Rainbow”, contains all the elements that made Eye’z’s previous offerings such pleasant surprises: Grounded yet intelligent lyrics, an innate musical sensibility as comfortable with torchy sounds as with blazing R&B and Pop anthems, and honest-to-God vocal chops.She’s more than adept at the soul singer’s stock-in-trade, the romantic ballad, but she can also deliver a rousing up-tempo throw-down with plenty of bump-ability. She always seems to grow as an artist, and her music, while always changing and improving, has a consistent core that makes it identifiable as hers.

Eye’z is a diverse and well versed artist whose music is richly textured with a soulful sensibility. “…Still a Rainbow” is the embodiment of her silky smooth vibe; a thought-provoking testament to her songwriting abilities and as a commercial package it forges a certain positive transgression into the realm of something new in pop.

The track rides her trademark pianos motifs which dash and dive between jangling guitar lines and some funky percussion.
