Bio

Eva Acton Stokes is a classically trained pianist/singer and veteran recording artist from Denver/London/Los Angeles. Her career began at age fourteen when she met the bass player from a popular progressive rock band and became their lead singer and main songwriter, which made her a star in her hometown. Miss Stokes, whose work has been described as "very unique, somewhat ethereal, slightly progressive baroque rock"  was first signed by Pete Brown of CREAM fame in London at the age of 18. She toured Europe and Southeast Asia in her early twenties, then moved to Los Angeles where she was championed by music business legend Artie Mogull. Mogull had made Bob Dylan, Laura Nyro, and Olivia Newton John stars, and Eva Stokes was to be his last hurrah. Miss Stokes says with a laugh, "Artie's failing health, industry changes and other things prevented my becoming a global superstar then. I'm not worried about it. My music just keeps getting better."
Stokes moved to the desert where she wrote a book about being a young musician in L.A. during the 90's. "Its pretty f***ing funny. It would make a great DeVito film. He'd be perfect as my manager."
After surviving the requisite 'desert rat' initiation (Stokes was stung by a scorpion, robbed by meth addicts, stabbed by friendly-looking cactii, and hexed by a native shaman, the effects of which were thwarted by the appearance of a ghostly ancestor (hey we just write down what they tell us, man)) Miss Stokes moved into an abandoned cabin in an area so remote it was actually called "The Outer Limits." There she spent two years writing and recording her latest album "EvVa."
"I decided to use two Vs because I love the band Miike Snow. Of course nobody gets it and assumes I'm just being pretentious, because I'm such a terrible snob," she jokes. The album was produced by David Scheffler. "I think David is a genius and he has also become a great friend. Whatever happens with this album, we had a wonderful time working on it together." Stokes, who openly despises social media, is on Facebook as both Eva the Singer and as EVVA SONGS and has a website called EVVASONGS she struggles to maintain. "I'm not old, and I'm brilliant at what I do, but suddenly I'm a failure if I'm not a marketing expert? I don't think so." She does not mind being criticized for her utter lack of interest in self-promotion. "If you love my music, YOU promote it," she says. "I am too busy writing it. I am a musician. That is what I do. I've spent 30 years at the piano, and I'm really good at it. Don't expect me to be doing anything else. OK, I am also a great cook."
Eva Stokes in currently in Seattle, WA, but will relocate anywhere if you're a hot guy with his own plane. "Just kidding," she says. "I've had that, and being alone in that weird little desert cabin with no running water was a lot more fun. Don't you think the album turned out well?"
Yes, we do.
