Releasing a good conceptual album is no easy feat. Having it center around the trials and tribulations of relationships always runs the risk of being too contrived. Anaheim-based Emcee Classiq manages to avoid all of that in finding the right lyrical arrows on Cupid's Vices. One-third of the Brothers Next Door, the rapper teamed with producer Rubix for the eight-track effort. The beats are chill and the themes topical. On "Respect the Situation" Emcee Classiq kicks off the conversation rhyming about mutual temptations left alone outside existing relationships. Such restraint goes unrewarded as bouncing bed springs open "I Should've," setting a scene of deceit and betrayal.
Cupid's Vices closes out with "White Dress Syndrome" which puts a wedding proposal as spoken word over a beat. The risks are rewarding and Emcee Classiq's delivery is adept. The effort is reminiscent of Brother Ali's The Bite Marked Heart EP. What the album ultimately means, the local rapper says, is up to each listener, but the Weekly gets Emcee Classiq's take!

Recently, I was introduced to an MC out of Southern California (A.K.A. “Soul Cal”) by the name of Emcee Classiq (@EmceeClassiq). It didn’t take too long to become a fan of this fella – all it took was one listen to The Cosign EP. The smooth, soulful, vintage production on this tape, combined with Emcee Classiq’s sharp flow and lyricism, made The Cosign EP one of those rare, “listen-all-the-way-through” type of tapes (I’m not always able to listen to a whole tape without skipping at least once”). Check this out if you love Hip Hop.

“This is that backpack, spray can bombin it. Meditation for generation…”
First off, shout out to Rubix because he killed this shit!
Nobody with Hip Hop in they heart could withstand 3:04 of this boom bap nostalgia. It’s a hard-knocking introduction to a competent rap crew, grinding out new era Soulquarian sounding bassNbars. It’s easily one of the best submissions we’ve received this year. I need to know more about this group.
I love how the drums start off like Q-Tip’s Let’s Ride, but other than that, there are absolutely no similarities, besides it being a dope, conscious, rap homage digitally waxed with fever and feeling. - Tears of an orphans

The OC’s Emcee Classiq and DJ Snoop dropped the live stream to his anticipated mixtape, EXPO/OC . which drops tomorrow! We brought you the single off the album, “Show Up and Show Out” last week and “The Introduction” back in January. We bring you the full project today.
From high energy to subdued, hypnotic production from DJ Snoop and Equal, along with Lykewise on the intro, Classiq and Snoop’s inspired take on making a good project like EXPO/OC shows the two artist’s appreciation for the art of hip hop while feverishly hustling to share their music with hip hop heads around the world. “Show Up and Show Out” is definitely the track to hear, but the whole project brings an unruly balance between Classiq’s bars and Snoop’s sound. Put this one into rotation today.

Local rapper Emcee Classiq dedicates an impassioned freestyle against police violence in Ferguson, Missouri. It's been 10 tension-filled days since police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown. The young African-American's death set off clashes in the streets between militarized police and angry residents that continued last night in more arrests and unrest. Like rapper J.Cole's raw tribute song "Be Free," Emcee Classiq took to the mic to express his pain.
"Just reading the news and learning another person, and a young person at that, died by the hands of the law, that was just enough to dive in and finally speak up," the rapper says. Emcee Classiq teamed with Weekly to premiere "Ferguson Freestyle."
The familiar saxophone sample from The Crusaders made popular by Queen Latifah's "U.N.I.T.Y" is on loop for the song. Emcee's Classiq's rhymes capture the frustration on the streets and the wider black community.
"The cop shot that boy / Why it happened / Cop was on some thug shit / Cuz a kid blocking traffic? / Madness / How many times this shit gonna happen? / 'Til we see justice served on police and they actions?" - ocweekly.com
Emcee Classiq is one of the hardest working rappers in OC today. He won't be denied, perfecting his craft and performing at shows with DJ Snoop, a pursuit that will reap its benefits.
The Weekly first spoke to Emcee Classiq when he released Cupid's Vices, a slickly produced concept album based on relationships. But we've been hip to him since he dropped The Interview. At times, listening to the rapper brings Kendrick Lamar to mind, and that's not a bad thing to say, not a bad thing at all. - ocweekly.com

Bio
Emcee Classiq, 1/3 of the Hip- Hop Trio Brothers Next Door, is a lyricist with his own lane. Favoring the raw yet soulful sound. This Emcee is what you call, a Student and Lover of the Hip-Hop culture especially the music. The heavy influences from pioneers such as Nas, Jay-z, Biggie, Slum Village, ATCQ, have allowed this Emcee to hone his skills around being lyrical and conceptual with his music. Following within the same aura as his fellow group mates, he adds the rawness to his hard hitting, rebellious, yet eloquent flow. He defines his music as Underground which, to him, means Truth. In his first mix tape called The Interview he introduces himself to his audience with conceptual themed songs and playful word play. Allowing the audience to step in the hallways of his life .
Emcee Classiq has opened up for some of HipHops pioneers such as KRS One, Murs , EPMD, and Method Man. He also has been reviewed recently on Hip-hop blog sites such as emceeenthusiast.com, gnarlyarmy.com , 88tillinfinity, 87dreamteam, hiphopruckus.com just to name a few. Classiq has become a known name in Orange Countys Hip-Hop scene, priding himself in being an Entertainer. His lyrical skills with his showmanship makes him amazing to watch. He comes with a close circle of talent with his Spot8816 team and Almighty team. There is not a lot of recognition for artist in the OC unless theyre mimicking whats on the radio. So I have a good creative team around me where we brainstorm ideas. We work hard at keeping it original and authentic. Emcee Classiq has released The Cosign Ep which you can find on emceeclassiq.com with standout tracks such as Just Breathe , I still do and Bifocals. With the addition of DJ Snoop a skillful DJ from Garden Grove, they have made an impact in Orange County with true showmanship with such a caliber that even the successful could take notes. Classiq and DJ Snoop continues to campaign to make it on bigger stages. It definitely wont be too long until. These two have expanded the name from well-known local acts to national household names.
