Bio

Ed Mabrey is the only three-time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion (2007/2012/2013-and was the first person of color to win the title).

Ed was a featured performer along with Mary Mary on Season 3 of Lexus' hit show Verses and Flow, which airs on TV One. Ed also is featured in the 2013/2014 season of HBO All Def Digital. He's a  4-time National Poetry Slam Finalist, an Emmy nominated actor, National Best Selling poetry anthology contributor (Spoken Word Revolution Redux/Sourcebooks) , motivational speaker, poet, and comedian, having hosted over 100 performances, including Rob Schneider, Roy Wood Jr., DL Hughley, Charlie Murphy, to name a few.
He has served as Host/served as Master of Ceremony/Featured Artist for over 200 events in the past 4 years and over 600 events in the past 8 years. Ed tours nationally and has conducted performances and workshops at many colleges and universities.

Ed Mabrey is an accomplished poet, writer, life coach, motivational speaker, and actor who is driven by an incredible passion for creating experiences with every performance. His performances are often noted for their unique blend of passion, grace, and fire. Ed has created characters that are unforgettable.

Ed Mabrey is the founder of Black Pearl Productions LLC, which owns Black Pearl Poetry, one of the most successful poetry shows in the nation, and has hosted and produced poetry events and concerts, including shows featuring The Roots, Umar Bin Hasan, The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron, Ursula Rucker, and Saul Williams, to name a few.

Ed has curated for the Martin Luther King Jr Performing Arts Center, been featured in the Whitney Museum, was founder of the first CUPSI/ Poetry organization for Arizona State University, mentored the first ever Brave New Voices Youth Poetry Slam team to come out of Phoenix, Arizona, and coached the highest ranking National Poetry Slam team to ever come out of Arizona.

Ed Mabrey has appeared in Oscar Nominated feature films, was an member of an Emmy nominated cast for a Movie-of-the-week on Fox and ABC, has worked with Kumba Theater, Red Herring Theater, and has been a finalist at countless National Poetry Slams. He was recipient of "Poet of the Year" by the Ohio Poetry Association, and was the first person of color to win the Individual World Poetry Slam, holding the title from February 2007-December 2008 (Ed also has finished 2nd in the World event and has several other top ten finishes on the World level). Ed is a Rust Belt Regional Poetry Slam Champion, Lake Eden Arts Festival champion, Great Plains Poetry Slam champion. Ed also currently hosts the Speak Up Youth Poetry Slam in Charlotte, NC.
While currently residing in Charlotte, NC, Ed is on tour performing poetry and conducting workshops as a solo artist and touring with his new group, Juju Jimi, which is a collaborative duo with him and Grammy nominated artist Kevin Sandbloom.
