"As a young boy I remember hearing music blasting from a boombox outside my house on the streets of Lowell MA...looking out the window I saw a little kid wearing a jean-jacket walking by & cranking his tunes, oblivious to the world around him. For some reason the vision intrigued me, and I'd watch for him whenever I'd hear the approaching squelch of his radio. Years later that little boy became the musician who penned what is in my opinion one of the best psych-folk records EVER, in "Explosion Alone". Why this album hasn't yet received the praises of the high church of indie-rock acceptance while artists like Banhart and Stevens are riding high on such surf is beyond me completely. The lyrics, melodies and arrangements are other-worldly and beautifully soulful. The hooks are sharp enough to make grown men weep and the exuberance for music that Eddy personified in childhood, completely absorbed in his world of song, has never diminished, only grown. Lowell Massachusetts will one day be known to the world not only as Jack Kerouac's hometown, but as the birthplace of one of the most important musicians in the new millenium, Eddy Dyer. "

"Eddie Dyer’s 'Walking Shoe Revival' is an impressive collection of songs that, for the better part of the CD, stick to a good blues feel, while not afraid to step outside of the music box to serve up sweet tricks. Mr. Dyer, a Lowell, Massachusetts native is a heartfelt musician who wears his guitar on his sleeve.
The opener, 'Running From The Rumble', sets a nice tone for the listener to delve into the sounds. Dyer starts the song of with a scat style phrase while moving you through with an infectious groove throughout. I particularly like the drum pattern in this one.
Backyard Breeze has a nice “Porch Blues” feel, summer lives on all year round in this cut! I’m still trying to figure out who the turtle is?
'American Mess' is a rebel gone wild & it brings Dyer back to his punk roots. The song displays some depth in charter with a cool Middle Eastern sounding riff in there. It’s a great hard rocking protest number… That’s my special report-
The next cut, "Baila, Gitana, Baila', is an instrumental of which I found beautiful. There is not much more that comes to mind.
Track 6, 'Can I Get An Amen', features the first guest appearance & this belongs to Ms. Jen Kearney (www.jenkearney.com). It is as if she walked through the door to say hello, while in retrospect, pay homage to her Poorhouse past with this one & she didn’t even write it! The solo is very emotional here.
'Feel Invisible' has modern rock angst to it; you may want to crank her at maxim volume as suggested on the CD.
'Slow To A Glide' features Van Lawton on vocals; I may have been getting ready to crash while listening to this one… Van’s voice supplied a nice soft pillow-
The next track with a vocal performance by Nathan Pyritz... 'Still Onward He Floated' fits oddly in the mix here for me but I still enjoyed it.
I could feel a great deal of sadness while Dyer sang Laura, Laura, Laura.
'Her Highness, Princess Splice' lightens up the mood here with a playful fun melody. Bonnie Rovics' flute stands out on this one!

'Silence In The Center Of Town'? I can’t fail to mention that I loved the ZZ Top 'A-hahahaha!' that sets this tune into gear… Nice guitar catchy tune-
This album is a must listen for the inquisitive music fan who is not spoon fed by the thrills of the day. Eddy Dyer uses his music to convey his message. His guitar flows throughout giving the listener a compass while on the journey-"

Eddy Dyer’s music is eternally in flux. Refusing to focus in on one specific sound, Dyer experiments and blends his music into various genres. At one moment he’ll be singing “Wowy” (a slow psychedelic guitar solo featuring choral voices), and in the next audiences may witness a complete transformation into something like “Through the Backyard Breeze” (a pacey, beat influenced fun track that features an affable handclap rhythm) Dyer is unpredictable and talented, but has some work before becoming a powerful force to be reckoned with in the industry.

Not hesitant about showing his disdain for the mainstream music industry, Dyer’s sometimes-risky sound reflects his independent mindset. Unafraid to break from the conventions of singer/songwriters, Dyer allows himself to play difficult chord progressions on the guitar while allowing emotion to creep into his music.



While Dyer’s abilities on the guitar are clear, his lyrics are sometimes trite and unimpressive. Singing about “purple flowers” and not having anything to do because his girlfriend is leaving, it seems that Dyer’s true talent lies in jamming on his guitar.

“Found Myself by the River,” a folksy song that eases from one tempo to another and then back again, reflects Dyer’s talent on the guitar. Mixing the textures evoked from chords and picking, Dyer leaves plenty of breathing room for showcasing his innovative skills as a guitarist on this track. Spouting off both his speaking and singing voices, Dyer maintains a casual and conversational tone throughout “Found Myself by the River.”



“Baila Gitana Baila (Dance Gypsy Dance),” shows Dyer delving into his Spanish influenced sound. Comparable to the style of Santana, the Massachusetts musician allows his guitar to burst out into a lyrical sound. Incorporating woodwinds to compliment the guitar’s song, Dyer’s flutist, Bonnie Rovics, creates a captivating mood with her effects. Setting a scene and executing its feeling entirely through instruments, Dyer’s “Baila Gitana Baila” shows Dyer’s potential as a musician.



Planning to release an album that pleases more of his psychedelic audience, Dyer’s forthcoming sophomore release is tentatively deemed “Teardrops Made of Melted Crayons.” According to his past trends of never sticking with one sound, the album is sure to vary significantly from any of his previous works. - NorthEast In Tune Magazine
