The pop/funk/R&B/soul singer that is Dylan Chambers has journeyed from Arlington, TX to Los Angeles, where the powerhouse vocalist has dug his heels in, coming a long way since the singer-songwriter tact of his debut record Vol. 1, expanding his oeuvre to meet the crest of a fuller, more robust sound, rooted in soul.
Spinning up a string of new singles with longtime producer, Stefan Litrownik (Boyz II Men, Andy Grammer), Chambers is raring to garner the charm of timeless classics, having no scruples about citing modern stalwarts, such as Vulfpeck, Jacob Collier, Devon Gilfilian and all who are concerned with preserving the sanctity of soul. In the past, he’s collaborated with producer John Alagía (John Mayer, Herbie Hancock), critically acclaimed singer Haley Reinhart (American Idol, F is for Family), Mark Ballas (Dancing with the Stars) and Grammy Award-nominated, multi-platinum jazz artist Dave Koz.
Chambers’ dancy new bullet “Ya Feelin’ Good?” is the would-be partygoer’s no. 1 anthem: an atomic bash with bright and bold melodies, enlivened by the singer’s infectious falsettos, grimy synth bass and electric guitar rhythms beholden to Prince. “Right now is all we’ve got,” and the intention for Chambers is to have a good time by way of singing his heart out and dancing away the pain, if not for a brief moment of respite: “World’s goin’ up in flames/We’re goin’ down the drain/But baby this night has just begun”; it comes as no surprise that his follow-up release will be none other than a cover of “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher,” an impressive, forceful and uplifting tribute to Jackie Wilson, that somehow measures up to the angelic timbres of Motown icons, The Andantes, with the help of Litrownik’s expert production.
“There’s so much negativity right now, and everybody’s feeling it… it’s such a heavy blanket that we’re all wrapped under, and it seems to me that people desperately want to feel good, with all this crazy shit going on,” says Chambers. “Ya Feelin’ Good?” reckons that – indeed – people want to feel good on occasion and transport themselves to a level of transcendence, albeit brief, and so Chambers takes the time to check in with himself on the latest smash, complying with a party atmosphere that he manifests, willingly. “I’ve been focussed on the intention of feeling good and feeling happy, and so I’ve been checking in with myself and thinking, ‘look, life is passing you by,’ so what can we do to make ourselves feel better? Time is slipping,” says Chambers.
Glide is thrilled to premiere “Ya Feelin’ Good?’ (below) a slinky funk workout that seizes the rhythmic worlds of Bruno Mars and Prince into an anthemic display of idealism.
I had been listening to Prince a lot that week and his mentality surrounding the world portrayed in the song ‘1999’ resonated with me more than it ever had,” says Chambers. “I put two and two together, saw history repeating itself and decided to write America a song to dance to while the world was crumbling around us. Musically, the song was very much inspired by old school funk. Stefan did a great job with the production by taking elements of the genre and pushing it a bit forward by adding some more modern elements. I’m really proud of it and I hope it provides listeners with a little fun and positivity during whatever reality we’re living in at the moment. I just remember thinking, ‘Well, if we’re all going down, maybe we should try to have the time of our lives while we still can.'” - Glide Magazine
The story behind Dylan Chamber's creative intuition mirrors those of many dreamers-alike who look to Los Angeles for a shot at breaking through the music industry's ceiling. This R&B and Funk amalgamating soulster traversed from Arlington, Texas, and over the Western Rocky-mountains, to land in the City of Angels under that same determine, in order to dispense some of his timeless soul-centric sounds to the masses. He's come a long way since his debut in 2016, and this year, his newest musical renderings draw unparalleled from the bouncy vibes you wouldn't be hard-pressed to find amongst the gyrating dance floors of a Vulfpeck or Jacob Collier show.
With a bombastic drum beat drawing energy from the Funk gods of the past, and a bass-line that burns with an unrelenting modern vibe, Dylan Chamber's "I Can Do It Myself" swoops-in with the grace of a tip-toeing crooner. Here, the Texas-native sings with a buzzing distortion that colors his harmonic textures with a more embellishing vintage-hue, mirroring the earthy crunch behind the riffing guitars that diffuse dopamine from the bumping party-room dance floors of this modern mix.
The sense of wanting to sway and jive to the beat of the constant clap-track in the background, which surprisingly never gets tiresome to hear—is inescapable. There's also no shortage of horns and synergizing harmonies that bounce between church-gospel resoundings and those invigorating call and response interludes you'd find at a Night Club. The most enticing aspect behind this track is how Chambers maneuvers over the meticulous articulations behind his swooning vocal melodies as he swings between serenade in the verse and uproar over the hooking chorus.
The unwashable after-glow that wreaths your vision after Dylan Chamber's "I Can Do It Myself" shouldn't come as surprising by now. Dylan is already colluding over his new sonic concoctions with notoriety producer Stefan Litrownik. And after this scintillating funk-fussed track, it's exciting to about the next Soul and R&B blending escapades anticipated to come.
Where do you draw your inspiration from for the hot-hearted performances you always manage to capture on your records?
It’s sort of a two-fold thing. Before I cut the vocals for a song, I do what I need to do to get in the same headspace I was feeling when I wrote it. I feel that every part of my needing to be involved in order for what I’m emoting to come across genuine and truthful. It also
comes from studying the history of the artists who’ve inspired me. A common thread with them is that they all fully embodied what they were singing about. I don’t want to be any different.
When you think about the narrative behind this track, what do you feel? And was that emotion something you wanted your listeners to grasp?
I feel proud that I have this story to share. It’s a coming of age realization that I seriously needed to have in order to move on into this next chapter of my life. I definitely wanted the listeners to feel that I was passionate about what I was saying because I meant every
word. It took a lot of experience to get there. I think especially now is a great time for people to understand the power they hold within themselves and that they have the ability to do whatever it is they feel they’ve been sent here to do.
What have been the most enjoyable moments behind the recording process of "I Can Do It Myself?"
What definitely sticks out in my memory is recording the group background vocals in the chorus. After I had sung all the lead parts, my fellow co-writers, Stefan Litrownik, Sean Fisher and I turned on one mic, spread out into different parts of the studio, and chanted “DO IT MYSELF”, “NEED NOBODY‘S HELP”, out into the open. We did this many times
with different pitches and just kept stacking the vocals. At one point, I was laying on the floor, Stefan was under the producer’s desk and Sean was in the kitchen chanting the words while the mic picked it up. We all had a great time giving it our best “macho man” voices to sound like a bunch of really tough guys (which we’re definitely not). There were a few times when we had to take a break because we were laughing so much. After that session, I went home and slept for 14 hours.
If you could give us a few words that would act as the Prologue to the experience behind this single, what would you say and why?
After years of waiting for the perfect situation or hoping someone would come around and change my life, I realized that I was the only one who was gonna do that and that I could all along. I say this because it’s the absolute truth.
What has been keeping you inspired in 2020?
My fellow artists have really been keeping me inspired during this time. Since the live music industry has pretty much stopped this year, we’ve all had to discover new ways to be creative and I’m seeing some amazing examples of this out in the world. I’ve also taken a much deeper dive into self-exploration this year. I’ve been learning what it means to
truly be vulnerable, to go after what you want, to not be so critical, to be a good ally, and so forth. Even though this has been such a crazy year for everyone, I’ve felt more inspired than I ever have. This is truly a transformative time for all of us on the planet. - BUZZMUSIC
In the time Dylan Chambers has been releasing music he's gained an impressive following and an ever growing fan base and it's songs like "I Can Do It Myself" that make it easy to see why people dig him.
"I Can Do It Myself" is damn fun sing along, get off your ass and dance kind of track.
A solid blend of funk, pop, and rock slapped together with style and topped with fresh, bright attitude laden singing make this song a damn tasty treat.
You can't really help but have fun listening to this song and I feel like it serves as a light at the end of a tunnel of sorts.
Horns blaze as crew vocals chant back the chorus and it all feels right.
This song is one to put on to get yourself smiling in no time flat. And it works.
Having said all that, most of the Dylan Chambers catalog is well worth a good listen or ten.
We could all use "I Can Do it Myself" in our lives. - Recording Artist Guild
With a cascading euphoria channeled via luscious falsettos and slippery guitar licks, Dylan Chambers escapes 2020 in his new single “Ya Feelin’ Good?” and does it with hot flair. Funky and free, with a bap-bap lightning beat, “Ya Feelin’ Good?” has an aim to get you dancing, and Dylan Chambers takes command with an energetic attitude that is felt both in the cream-smooth pre-choruses and in the song’s tail-end electric guitar shred. Dylan Chambers, a Los Angeles resident since 2011, allows himself a moment of celebration, during a career that keeps on blossoming through hard work, and invites you to join in: stream “Ya Feelin’ Good?” for your ticket to the party. - René Cobar - The Deli LA
(December 2, 2020) Multi-faceted singer Dylan Chambers is new to us at SoulTracks, but the Arlington, Texas native and L.A. transplant is hitting us just right with our first exposure. Working with producer Stefan Litrownik (Boyz II Men), Chambers is issuing a series of singles capturing classic soul vibes with new energy.
Chambers arrived in Los Angeles nearly a decade ago, and has been paying his dues, playing some of the most popular clubs in the area and gaining a West Coast audience. And that audience should expand with his newest single, an energetic cover of the Jackie Wilson classic, “Higher and Higher.”
Chambers’ version is fairly faithful to the iconic original, but modern instrumentation and recording techniques give it a new sheen that pops from the speakers. And his expressive vocals on top work just great.
Dylan tells us, “I always say that if I had a time machine, I would go back to the late 60s/early 70s because I so desperately wish I was alive to experience that magical era of music in real time. Recording my own version of this iconic song by Jackie Wilson was my vehicle back. My good friend and producer, Stefan Litrownik, had the idea for me to try my hand at it a while ago, and I’m glad we finally did it.
I have a deep love and appreciation for classic soul songs and the artists who sang them. They’re like superheroes to me, and the way they were able to express the messages in these songs so well were their superpowers. I gained a greater appreciation for Jackie Wilson through recording this song. It’s technically pretty challenging, so that layered with his performance explains why this song is a masterpiece that’s been loved through the ages. Two fun facts I learned about his version during the process: 1) It was done in one take and 2) the drums are being played by Maurice White from Earth, Wind and Fire. Mind blowing!"

The powerhouse vocalist has dug his heels into the industry, coming a long way since the singer-songwriter act of his debut EP, while expanding his oeuvre to meet the crest of a fuller, more soul-rooted, robust sound.
Spinning up a string of new singles with long-time producer, Stefan Litrownik, who has accomplishments under his belts that range from Boyz II Men and Andy Grammer, Dylan Chambers is enthusiastic to garner the charm of timeless classics, having no scruples about citing modern stalwarts such as Vulfpeck, Jacob Collier, Devon Gilfillan and all who are focused with preserving the sanctity of soul. Amongst the chaos offered up in 2020, Dylan Chambers utilized the second half of the year to release three critically acclaimed singles that shared an intrapersonal light on who he is as an artist and individual.
Lively instrumentation filled with a Funk fortified foundation has us grooving to the upbeat jive of, “I Can Do It Myself.” Inspired by the coming of age realization that all the things Dylan Chambers had been waiting for others to help him with, he could in fact start on his own. He placed the fear of making the wrong move to the side and proceeded to skyrocket with his artistic endeavors. Creating a meaningful path for others to follow upon, Dylan Chambers raises the bar as he urges others to take that leap of faith.
“Ya Feelin’ Good?” has us swimming in a pool of nostalgia with the powerful vocal range shed in the mesmerizing feels of the lyrical content Dylan Chambers graces us with.
A conversation with friend and producer Stefan Litrownik influenced the blissful ambiance of Dylan Chambers encouraging us to party like it’s 1991. Reminding us that even though it’s easier to sink under the pressures and uncertainties caused by this year, we always have the power to make the most out of a bad situation no matter how bad it gets.
Made famous by the late Jackie Wilson, “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher,” is a favorite soul-infused classic from the late ’60s for Dylan Chambers. Performing his lush new age rendition, Dylan Chambers places his capabilities into this utopia of grooves that producer, Stefan Litrownik, urged the emerging artist to cut and make his own. Taking him back to an era that he wishes he was able to experience, the duo pays homage to the original while putting their unique flair on the creation.
With Dylan Chambers still residing in Los Angeles, he continues to hustle through his list of accomplishments while cementing his place in the industry. With plenty more to come, Dylan Chambers is just launching a voyage of R&B/Funk that we all want to witness.
Hello Dylan, welcome back to BuzzMusic, it's always a pleasure when we chat with you. Congratulations on your successful journey through 2020. With everything that has gone on this year, how have you managed to stay inspired and creative during 2020?
Thank you! It’s always a pleasure to talk with BuzzMusic as well. I appreciate all the support this year. Even though 2020 felt like hell on Earth, it provided me with a lot of creative inspiration. My lifestyle before COVID was go, go, go for years so to have everything up and stop back in March was a real shock to the system. However, not being able to travel and play in person gigs created an opportunity for me to be still and look inwards. I’ve been writing a lot more than usual because of the time I’ve had alone. I’ve also managed to flood my brain with all the podcasts, books, and music I could handle which has kept my inspiration tank full.
Do you happen to have a favorite piece of your own music that resonates with you more than others? What's your reasoning?
Not necessarily. My favorite song is always the one I’ve most recently finished, but then that fades when I start working on the next one. As a whole, I’m proud of all the music I write. I try not to get choosy with it.
We can only imagine great times all around, but how has it been collaborating with your producer and friend Stefan Litrownik? As a songwriter, do you only write music for yourself or have you embarked on a journey of writing music for others as well?
Working with Stefan has been a wonderful experience. We’ve known each other and been friends for almost 10 years now. During that time, we were on the road playing for another artist which ultimately strengthened our musical bond. Coming together in the way that we have was only natural. As a songwriter, I’ve enjoyed (and still enjoy) writing for other
artists when the opportunity presents itself. I co-wrote Brett Young’s “Kiss by Kiss”, Herb Alpert’s “Skinny Dip”, Tiffany Houghton’s “Love Like That” and more. I’ve also enjoyed playing guitar on other artist’s records. On the track “Slow Down Turbo” off of Rich Brian’s 2019 album The Searcher, the ethereal outro is a chopped up sample of my guitar.
What can we expect from you in terms of new music in 2021? Any collaborations that we should keep our eyes peeled for?
My goal is to put out a new single every other month. The first one, Breakdown, will be coming out on January 28th which features some incredibly funky bass playing by Brandon Brown (Brandon Brown Collective/Musical Director and bassist for The Jacksons). I have one song I did that features an epic sax solo by Dave Koz and was mixed by Josh Gudwin (Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, etc.) I’m not sure of the release date on that one yet though. Hopefully summer. My good friends, Alexander Jean, (Mark Ballas/BC Jean), and I have plans to get in the studio together at the top of the year as well.
Do you have any other dream collaborations that you would like to cross off of your bucket list?
I think it would be really awesome to do something with Daryl Hall and John Oates sometime. I’ve loved them for a while and I feel we could really come up with something cool together. Also, John Mayer and Chromeo would be fun to do something with.
Which artists, songs and playlist have you been listening to during 2020?
Too many to count! James Brown, Eagles, Beatles, Bruno Mars, Grateful Dead, Donna Summer, Marvin Gaye, The Dip, Rolling Stones, BB King, Charles Bradley, The True Loves, ZZ Top, Paul Simon, John Mayer, Theo Katzman, etc. I listened to Paul McCartney’s new album twice on a long drive to Austin, TX a few days ago and loved it. He’s still got it, man.
Of course, he does though, ya know? It’s Paul McCartney. I really enjoyed Ryan Adams new album Wednesdays as well even though it ripped my heart out and threw it on the floor. As far as playlists go, I’ve been enjoying “Retro Drive” and “Nu-Funk”. My song “Ya Feelin’ Good?” got added to “Nu Funk” a month ago so I’ve been listening through to hear the other artists featured on there. Really good stuff. I’m honored to be in such good company.
What words of wisdom would you like to leave for your listeners to cap off 2020?
We don’t know what’s coming but things are about to get turned back around. It’s a natural law that the pendulum swings back to the other side. We’ve been living far too long in a time of chaos, greed, sickness, corruption, power trips, etc that it’s all gonna bloom into something beautiful here soon. It has to. I have faith that once we’re out of this craziness, it’s gonna be the roaring 20’s all over again. Music and art will be thriving. We’re not gonna take each other, our freedom, or our health for granted anymore. - BUZZ MUSIC
