Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave has collaborated with Jamaican dancehall artist Dwayne “Dwayno” Forrester on a yet-to-be-named song produced by Oskid. Dwayno, who collaborated with Vybz Kartel on the track Don a Road, has remained in Zimbabwe ever since he jetted into the country at the beginning of the month for the Zimbabwe-Jamaica Youth Festival.

The Jamaican artiste, who has in the past expressed support for Zimdancehall, has also collaborated with Guspy Warrior on a track titled Di Gal Deh. Fungisai confirmed the collaboration to the Daily News yesterday and said:

Uno de los artistas más reconocidos de Jamaica, tras su gran impacto en el reggae y el dancehall. Se trata de Dwayne Forrester, quien visitó el país hace pocos días para hablar de su reciente trabajo discográfico. Además habló de su amistad con Farid Crespi Gamboa, Dj Crespi de Costa Rica. Por cierto, ambos tratan de incluir un nuevo ritmo al país que se llama First Crespí Riddim 2016, bajo esta novedad, grabaron el tema “Me body Good”. Los temas del disco son: “Don a road”, Bad inna bed”, “Tropical love”, “Fast wine”, “Dollars”, “Back it up in Kartel”, “Señorita” entre otros.

Un detalle es que el artista tiene una hija en el país y viene a menudo a verla. Se llama Dhimani Forrester tras su relación con la tica Falone Morrison.

Hola, ¿cómo estas?

-Muy feliz de estar acá, esta es mi décima ocasión en el país. Es un lugar que me encanta, además aquí vive mi hija.

¿Pequeña la bebé?

-Sí, apenas tiene 9 meses de edad.

¿Qué temas trae el disco?

-Tiene varios temas, entre ellos “Don a road”, Bad inna bed”, “Tropical love”, “Fast wine”.

¿Vives en Jamaica?

-Sí, aunque vengo a Costa Rica con frecuencia para ver a mi hija. Yo creo que ambos países son similares.

¿Es cara la vida en su país?

-Depende de la temporada, en Navidad y verano se pone más caro.

¿Muchos años en la música?

-Tengo 15 años en la música, en todo este tiempo he podido visitar muchos países. Canadá, Estados Unidos, Costa Rica e incluso algunos de Europa.

¿Cuál es el plan en esta visita?

-Vengo a presentarme en varios lugares. (Tiene agenda para Limón, Pérez Zeledón, Turrialba y Golfito)

¿Qué hace en sus espectáculos?

-Son cargados de energía y muy amenos. Dura unos 40 minutos y el tiempo depende de la cantidad de canciones. Cantamos un promedio de 10 canciones pero nada de covers, solo originales.

¿Cómo fue grabar con Dj Crespi de Costa Rica? ¿Qué piensas de First Crespí Riddim ?

-Es algo muy importante para mí porque mi plan es darme a conocer más en el país pero no solo para hacer música, sino me gustaría hacer negocios e invertir acá algo de lo que he ganado. El país me gusta mucho. Me gustaría hacer condominios y tener un restaurante.

¿Es cristiano?

-Mi familia en Jamaica sí es cristiana.

¿Le gusta el fútbol?

-Claro, me encanta.

¿Conoce a Usain Bolt, el hombre más rápido del mundo?

-Sí claro, Usain tiene un club en Jamaica que es muy famoso.

¿Cómo trajo a Dwayno?

-Yo desde 2009 estoy en el género. Trabajé en 103 FM, para 2010 me salieron contactos en Jamaica, tengo amigos allá. Ya hice el First Crespí Riddim. - Diario extra

EEJAY Dwayno, whose latest single Love We Need features Buju Banton, says the song has transformed his career.



It was produced by Different Medz Entertainment months before Banton was arrested on drug charges in South Florida four years ago.



"I actually got a chance to meet him through Wesley Wilkins, a part-time engineer who worked with Buju. After the introduction, I went there (Banton's studio) with Oneil from Voice Mail a few times, so I kept the link. Buju was always supportive with his advice," says Dwayno.



Born Dwayne Forrester, Dwayno has performed in several Caribbean countries including Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, St Lucia, and Barbados.

These include a roots rock reggae album, a dancehall album, a soca album, a full African language album, and a full Spanish album.

"We are determined to get it this year. I am building my catalog with different types of music, working with a lot of local and international producers and artists like Pamputtae, Sheba, Stylish, Alozade, Chivea, Sentenal, and Souljah Love," he said.

LOYAL FOLLOWING
The albums will be released under the Dwayno Recordz/Different Medz Entertainment imprints, the brainchild of the artiste.

Dwayno lives in the US, and he believes that he can use his Spanish language skills to carve out a loyal following in Latin and South America.

"I have a Spanish tour coming up which will have shows in Costa Rica in March, Nicaragua and Mexico in May," he said.

The artiste is now preparing for his Costa Rica tour, along with veteran DJ Merciless, and he has several shows booked in the US.

He now lives in the US, where he has witnessed the extensive reach of reggaeton. Over the past decade, the genre has seen increased popularity across the predominantly Spanish-speaking Central and South America.

Dwayno believes that there has also been a corresponding rise of reggae music in South America, hence why he is amping up his production of songs that cover all genres of reggae and black-influenced music.
