Bio

Duke Charelle is artist Deondre Charelle, with a collective of musicians, many of which are touring musicians from Parliament Funkadelic. Deondre Charelle is a musician, who started playing classical music at 8, with the clarinet. Growing up in a musical family, he was fond of various types of music, in particular R&B, until he heard Eric Clapton and Parliament Funkadelic.

Deondre then made a transition into rock music, and while playing in his school band, decided to join a jazz band and play bass in 8th grade. When moving to Michigan to live with his father for high school, he started music again after a dream about playing guitar. He started self teaching himself guitar and jazz music theory, and practiced four hours a day. Deondre then played a song he wrote for his history class at Ann Arbor's infamous folk music venue the Ark. Deondre became interested in writing as well, and was well versed in slam poetry, while practicing music and wrestling in high school. Senoir year, Deondre took fourth place in a guitar solo battle at Ann Arbor's teen club, The Neutral Zone.

Upon going to college (after transferring to EMU after being accepted into Berklee College Of Music), Deondre began to play around the college scene, and perform for various charities regularly. His senior year, Deondre learned several secrets about his mother's side of the family; after running into Parliament Funkadelic, he discovered that they knew his mother, and began to perform with them at events.

Deondre also began to produce his first album, writing all the lyrics, and many of the bass lines. While finishing his work, he assisted Yorg Kerasotis (jam band musician of the band Bump, who now back Uncle Kracker), and T Money Green (The Dramatics, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre) with production of their act Lin-Say. In that time period, Yorg and Deondre settled on the name Duke Charelle, (due with his relation and afflations with Prince, The Jimi Hendrix Family, and Parliament Funkadelic). Deondre then teamed up with ex Prince drummer Dean Ragland, who also played for George Clinton, Robert Nash, a music theory teacher and keyboard player, and Monica Notaro, who sings in her corporate cover band The Cancel Monday Band, as well as various other musicians to bring his vision to the stage. His music captures the material and spiritual, and all the ups and downs of life. Written from personal experiences, expansive psychedelic thoughts, and self, as well as universal exploration, Duke Charelle is out to make something new, and push the envelope. Duke Charelle has won numerous awards for his music and performances, from being a part of the NME Online Music Awards for his live performances for five years straight, to winning the Akedemia Music Awards in LA in 2016 for Best Funk Song, Tantric Dance. Duke Charelle has performed more than 100 shows.
