Black Americans have had an impact on Jamaican music for 50 years, starting with impresario Danny Sims and singer Johnny Nash in the mid-1960s.
Singer Ameera is looking to emulate her compatriots.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, she released her first reggae song in October, a cover of Adele’s mega-hit Hello with Mr Vegas.
“I am very comfortable singing reggae and dancehall songs; these are two of my favorite genres of music. My dad is Jamaican, so I grew up listening to a lot of Jamaican artistes like Beres Hammond, Shabba Ranks, Buju Banton, Cobra, Shaggy and Dennis Brown.” - Jamaica Observer
