Conscious Oakland rap collective Dope City Saints are a Hip-Hop Tour De Force. The group’s intelligence, passion, and lyrical content easily sums up what they are about. Core members MC Wordup, Kasi RocsWell, and Steve Shankle bring authenticity, creativity and appreciation for the craft back to the forefront of artistry and they perfectly proof that with their hit single, “Whatup World”, featuring Hieroglyphics member Pep Love.
“Whatup World” was written on March 11, 2011 in light of the devastating events of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Speaking of worldwide issues of radiation pollution within our oceans and the scenarios of climate change, “Whatup World” calls attention to all that surrounds us on Earth to be grateful for it. The video was shot in Oahu, Hawaii.

Dope City Saints have been hard at work since the release of their highly acclaimed mixtape "City Of Dope". Not wanting to keep the people waiting, they return with the first official set of visuals from the project. Dope City Saints is not your average hip hop group. Intelligence, passion, and lyrical content easily sums up what they are about. Hailing from East Oakland California, MC WORDUP and Kasi RocsWell formed Dope City Saints in 2012. DCS hopes to bring authenticity, creativity and appreciation for the craft back to the forefront of Hip-Hop.
Through a series of free street performances held each first Friday of the month Dope City Saints was able to provide artists with an opportunity to showcase their talents to large crowds, which at one point reached 5,000 people, for no performance fee. It was impossible for them to stay off the radar, even if they tried. Being men of good business Dope City Saints has spent much of their time finishing, memorizing, and performing music as well as finding the most effective means to release their product.
Who said that Hip-Hop isn't marketable outside of the mainstream? They probably weren't doing it right. Artistic expression in Hip-Hop is coming back and Dope City Saints will be one of the driving forces of change that brings freedom, diversity, and reality along with it.
