Doks Robotiks is a jazz/hip-hop octet from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and they sound exactly like that. Which is to say, they're an underground Midwestern act serving the nu-jazz movement that's sweeping the mainstream with acts like Thundercat and Flying Lotus. The Doks' looser sound on their Doks Robotiks Free Form EP reflects the band's live feel. In the age of jazztronica, it's refreshing to hear rhythm intricacies played by real people. Emcees Konstant and Gumm feed each other's hyper-freestyle chemistry, and their playful energies push the band in fun directions, as if Ad-Rock and Mike D decided to quit the Beastie Boys to join BadBadNotGood. For the release party for their eponymous full-length debut, Doks Robotiks enlisted companions Sayth and Sloslylove, as well as Twin Cities poet-singers Lydia Liza and Lizea Harper. - City Pages
"Recording an EP before they
ever hit the stage, Doks
Robotiks – intentionally or
not – seems to avoid
convention on the Eau Claire
music scene." - VolumeOne
This past Thursday night, the jazz infused hip-hop group, Doks Robotiks, held down 7th Street Entry for their EP release show. The night featured performances by: Lydia Liza, Lizea Harper, Sayth, and Sloslylove. The evening was filled with nothing but good vibes and great music. Good thing we were in attendance, as this was one you wouldn’t want to miss. We expect to see a lot more from Doks in the near future as they continue to grow into their own. Bio
Combining a longtime staple of the Eau Claire music scene with a genre currently taking the city by storm, Doks Robotiks blends jazz with hip-hop into a volatile cocktail best served in a live setting.
The collective prides itself on a rotating cast of musicians that contribute vocal hooks and horn lines to its funky hip-hop core, hearkening back to the golden era ethos of Digable Planets and A Tribe Called Quest while simultaneously searching for that new, unfound sound.
