Bio
Originally from New York City, David Gerard began writing compositions while attending the School of Visual Arts, studying photography and painting. In the 80's, he went into the studio and began recording works like "A Piece of the Desert", an 8-part suite influenced by Steve Reich's "Desert Music." After sending a demo to the manager of NYC's iconic Knitting Factory, he was given a concert gig, becoming the last unsigned artist to perform there. Moving to Boston in 1994, he started working for a PR firm by day, and writing and producing music at night. His first recording, "Trancendental No. 1" featured the range of his talents and inspirations: minimalist excursions in electronica, flowing, ambient melodies and stunning, orchestral interludes. Ten years later, Gerard released "Compositions" on his own New Franklin Records. By 2006, Gerard had released the ambitious "Bremsstrahlung", a suite of nine uninterrupted compositions that e/i electronic magazine noted as "a heated up progression in Gerard's compositional prowess, plus a better engaged faculty of ideas." With each successive release, Gerard has found new horizons to explore, and set the bar for experimentation and creativity in electronic music, collecting along the way such fans and supporters as Pat Metheny, Kevin Braheny, Dwight Ashley and Harold Budd, as well as the architects of electronic ensemble Mother Mallard - David Borden and Steve Drews. "Music is my spiritual and organic connection to the world and nature, and I want to bring a little beauty and mystery where only silence existed before" says Gerard. You can check out his music on iTunes, Spotify, Rhapsody and Amazon. Gerard has also contributed to compilations from Wayfarer, Sounds4Good and BFW Recordings.
