In his debut project 'Blackamoor,' Darnell Little explores what it means to be a dark-skinned man in today’s America. While the project is a personal narrative that details the trials and tribulations of Little’s life, it also tells a story of strength and perseverance that listeners can draw wisdom from. If the fan takes away knowledge and a sense of personal growth, Darnell Little has accomplished what he set out to do with his music - ThisIs50.com
Each week the WatchLOUD submissions email is stuffed to the gills with new music from all over the map. The truth is we don’t get to a lot of it, but we try. Of this week’s inquiries that we actually heard, these stood out. Some are affiliated with familiar names, others are reconfigured familiar names and then some are the purest uncut indie who we stumbled upon because the subject line read “Free Pizza.” So take a listen and if you like them, hit them up on their socials and spread the word. - WatchLoud
22 year old Camden, NJ emcee and producer Darnell Little hits us with this dope 16 track debut album "Blackamoor". While homie looks to stay true to Hip Hop and remains reminiscent to the Golden Age, he links with producers myself, Boonie Mayfield, Mute Won, [offbeatninja] and many more. A very worthy effort. - OK- Tho
In a state of hip hop that is oversaturated with trap beats and club bangers, it feels like breath of fresh ocean air when we find a gem hidden amongst the rubble; a sound we may have forgotten existed in hip hop. Darnell Little of Camden, New Jersey is one of those shining stars we’re waiting to watch explode in the years to come.
As a young kid, music always came naturally to Little – so much so that he was making beats by 10 and writing songs by 12. In those past 10 years since he began songwriting, Little has suffered through depression and turmoil that could’ve torn him down. Instead, he’s found a therapeutic outlet through music that has allowed him to connect and share with people from literally all around the globe.

Darnell Little recently released his new LP and we got the opportunity to interview the rising artist! Darnell talks about his favorite albums, favorite movies, his plans for 2016, and more. Check it out below!
1. First of all, introduce yourself to the people!
My name is Darnell Little. 22 yr old introverted Army Brat, who has moved around, but call Camden, NJ my home. I started creating music around the age of 9 and has constantly progressed throughout the years.
—
2. If you were stranded on an island for the rest of your life and could only take three albums with you, which three would you choose and why?
The three albums I would take with me would be:
“Illmatic” by Nas because of the lyricism, the grittiness and ruggedness yet soulful vibe of the album. It made me feel like I was in New York during the 1990′s and it will forever be a Hip Hop Classic.
“Mm.. Food” by MF Doom because it’s Doom! Lol. The way how he flipped the Cartoon and Food related samples and how he made the album revolve around the food concept is Amazing.
“Reasonable Doubt” by Jay-Z because of the Mafioso theme mixed with the lyricism that Jay possessed is Incredible. This will forever be my favorite Jay-Z album in his catalog.
—
3. What is your favorite track off your latest EP, “BLACKAMOOR”?
My favorite track off my Debut Album is the 3rd track “ME.” The song talks about my upbringing, my bouts with depression and my self-esteem issues. It’s one of the most personal songs off the album.
—
4. Where is your “go to” place to eat in Camden, NJ?
My “go to” spot is Frank’s on Broadway. One of the best spots for a cheesecake or hoagie in the city.
—
5. What are some of your favorite movies of all time?
“Malcolm X”, “Friday”, “New Jersey Drive” are some of my favorite movies. I got a long list but I wanted to keep it short.
—
6. What do you have planned for the rest of 2016?
Booking shows, promoting the album, shooting a couple visuals and I might release my Instrumental Album “The [sham.gawd] LP” at the end of this year. Trying to close the year out with a bang.

TMW: Where are you from?
LITTLE: I was born in Syracuse, NY, moved to Camden, NJ during my childhood and I've been on the move ever since (Army brat purposes). But I'm heavy affiliated with the city of Camden, home to artists such as Big Lou, Fel Sweetenberg, Shakil, DJ Cooley, and Apollo The Great.
TMW: What got you into music/producing?
LITTLE: Video games got me into producing music. As a child, I was always fascinated by the sounds and scores in video games and I started to make beats when I was 9 yrs old.
TMW: Where would you like to see yourself and your music in 3 years?
LITTLE: In 3 years, I see myself growing as an artist and a person. I also want to help expand the Indie Hip Hop Movement and be a mentor to the up-n-comers.
TMW: 5 artists that have greatly inspired you.
LITTLE: The 5 artists that have inspired me are:
- Flying Lotus
- J Dilla
- Nas
- Elzhi
- Tupac
TMW: Upcoming projects?
LITTLE: I have a couple projects I'm working on. I'm planning on dropping my next Instrumental Project "LittleLotus II" (The sequel to my acclaimed Instrumental Project "LittleLotus") this summer, and I'm working on my debut album which is expected to be released at the end of this year or the beginning of 2016.
TMW: Describe your style in 3 words.
LITTLE: Unorthodox, Original, All-Around
TMW: We're sure you're extremely proud of all your material, but is there a song that really sticks out to you for having a little special touch?
LITTLE: The one song that really sticks out to me the most is the song "Destination (Ride)" off my latest EP "XXI". It took me about 2 years to write and come up with a concept for the song. I kept putting the song to the side until one day I decided to pull an All-Nighter in the studio and finished it. The concept of the song is me expressing my thoughts on accomplishing my goals before I leave Earth to reach the astral plane.
TMW: What is your ultimate aim with music? What do you want to accomplish with it?
LITTLE: I aim to reach my full potential as an artist and I want to be one of the greatest musicians to ever live.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?
I’m Darnell Little, a 20 yr. old MC/ Producer. I was born in Syracuse, NY, flourished in Camden, NJ and has been on the move ever since (army brat). I started producing music around the age of 9 after I heard Just Blaze’s score on “NBA Street Vol. 2″ and started writing songs around the age of 12. (11 years being a musician) My original stage was Atom Ant (named after the 60’s cartoon) and I decided to change my name to Darnell Little to make my stage name have a more personal feel (Darnell is my middle name and Little comes from one of my influences last name “Malcolm X (original name “Malcolm Little”)
What influences you in making Hip Hop?
I get influenced to make music by listening to other musicians’ work, studying different music producers’/ rappers techniques and genres of music (Jazz is my favorite genre other than Hip Hop), going outside… examining my environment and being influenced by life itself.
Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?
My music has a “Jazz” and “Experimental” type of feel when it comes to the Instrumental part of the process when I make a song, while my lyrics is complex and conscious. I might go over the average hip hop listener’s head sometimes, but it’s better to be educated while listening to a song. The thing that separates me from other MCs is that I incorporate the themes of life everytime you listen to one of my songs. One song, I’ll talk about relationships, another song I’ll talk about the injustices that Black males go through while living in America, and another song talking about color theory lol. I’m just an all around MC.
Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?
I’ve collaborated with a number of artists. I’ve made records with J. Nolan, VERZE, SageInfinite, Ale-Jhay and Fel Sweetenberg to name a
few. In the future, I would like to collab with Jon Connor (in the process of sending him some instrumentals), Mr. J. Medeiros, Apollo
The Great, oriJanus, and abstraКt ΒΕΔТЅ.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
My definition of “Underground Hip Hop” is Hip Hop that doesn’t sell it’s soul for a quick dollar, Staying true to the elements and exhibiting the love of the art form. The artists in the underground has always been and will forever be more talented than the artists in the mainstream.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?
I have alot of influences when it comes to the production side. The producers that comes to mind are Flying Lotus, Just Blaze, J-Dilla,
Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Nottz, 9th Wonder, Madlib, Fel Sweetenberg, Boonie Mayfield, Apollo Brown, Knxwledge, Q-Tip, Freddie Joachim, John Coltrane, Ahmad Jamal and Herbie Hancocke (that was alot lol)
Any current or future projects you are promoting?
I’m currently promoting my latest project “XX” and I’m currently working on my debut EP (which is untitled at the moment), which will
be released through Dynamic Beats Abound and will be available on iTunes and Amazon at the end of this year. I’m also handling some of
the production on J. Nolan’s upcoming project.
Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of XX Mixtape? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your XX Mixtape Art Cover.
The creative process of my project “XX” was a long process. It took me 3 years to put this project together (writer’s block). The title of the project was originally called “A Sheltered Man’s Diary”, but I decided to rename it “XX” because I wanted the theme to talk about the highs and lows of my first 20 years on Earth . The album artwork was created by my sister, Kierra, who is a graphic designer. The concept behind it was to create an intriguing atmosphere for my audience and people who may see it and want to take a listen. The abstract of the cover is inspired by the 90’s era (ex. music, television), when music was raw and at it’s purest form.

The vibrance in 2015 is strong, fresh & most important youthful. Darnell Little is a young hungry MC making his moves in this game to make sure the longevity will survive. His latest project titled “XXI (EP) displays his inner growth, trials and tribulations on his current experiences in Hip Hop. It serves as a prologue for his upcoming debut album which we are really looking forward too. He really allows all listeners to go right into his mind, body & soul with every song on this project. Consisting of 5 solid songs really making sure that the phrase EP is respected keeping this project short but sweet.
His lyrical ability and original sound is super fresh. “Destination” is by far one of the freshest songs we have heard for 2015 and moving forward. He really keeps the OG Hip Hop sound Boom Bap style at its forefront of his music. One thing to point out are his DOPE samples and drums, allowing his rhymes and songs to really shine. Overall this is a quality project for all Hip Hop heads to enjoy. He is young but clearly he has a bright future ahead of him and trust us, his name will be nationwide very soon!!!!!!!!!!!

“Oh, so THIS is how this is gonna go” I thought to myself, grinning, when I finished the intro to Jacob at Avant Garde Vol.1.
I heard “Chapter I”, the opening track to Camden rapper GF Anon’s latest record, on a cold early morning walk. Being in the northeast has really helped me appreciate the hip-hop in the region, especially Anon’s. The mix of hope and sadness in his pen, the soul that serves as a soundtrack to days in the cold, the conviction in his voice that is as firm as the concrete underneath my feet. With this being his first release in a trilogy set to release this year, I’m excited to know that his brand of jazz rap is gonna be on loop as the weather turns warm. This project in particular has already been on loop for me for lots of reasons. It’s a showcase of GF Anon’s excellent stage presence and lyricism, with some choice beatsmithing put on display.
What really makes it stand apart from his catalog is its conceptuality and heart. Anon himself described avant-garde as art people may not initially get, “but once they begin to study and peel the layers back of the art piece, they’ll begin to understand and appreciate it.” That’s the story of this record, in a nutshell. It’s artsy and eclectic, moving like a puzzle that forms a clearer and clearer image when you put the pieces together. That image is both somber and heartfelt, a touching ode to Anon’s late uncle and Anon’s ambitions. It’s a listen that rewards your brain and soul every time you take a dive.
“Chapter 1” works so well as an intro that I feel I should go in a bit more detail on how it sets the tone for the album. There’s a storm of samples: Anon’s uncle’s voice is felt as he hypes up the energy for the record, transitioning to a chilling opening verse that grapples with mortality, only for the song to transition to a hopeful soul chop that feels cozy as a blanket. This blend of darkness and nostalgia may seem slightly at odds, but Anon makes it work with his pen game and trust in producer KingJVY_B’s beats. Anon himself wanted this project to also work as a showcase of the beatmaker’s talent, and it’s clear why he’s landed spots with Westside Gunn: “Chapter VI” throws so many crazy transitions and loops that it works both as a sound collage and a classy jazz cypher where Anon muses about the music industry, wealth and his own identity. KingJVY_B definitely has some beats you gotta check out.
The interplay between the beat switches and Anon’s lyricism is really what gives this record’s avant garde concept weight. The record works like a rap scavenger hunt, with each song serving to propel your understanding of both Anon and his family, usually through abstract transitions or beats backing different emotional tones. “Chapter III” is one of my favorite songs from the rapper, a song that finds Anon dissecting his own mind “at warp speed” and determining that he needs to take a leap for greater purpose, with a splash sound introducing a heavenly luxury rap melody; Anon reiterates the themes of the first verse, but here he sounds more composed, perfected. This composure becomes even more satisfying when you notice how he discusses his hustle for it in “Chapter II,” that story bleeding into his drive to achieve his destiny for his lost friends and family on “Chapter IV” (which has a warm and almost whimsical Mute Won beat). GF Anon’s cadence and vocal presence always make it seem like he’s preaching, but damn he’s preaching on this record, especially when he comes in over new production.
While I think I can write endlessly about how this whole album makes me feel, I think there’s power in the listener’s own interpretation of things, so I do not want to go into too much more detail. However, I want to make note on how the album sticks the ending. “Chapter XIII” works almost like an internal pep talk from Anon or his family to a past version of himself, advising against poor decisions; when the second half hits, it feels like Anon is standing in the present, reflecting on how far he has come from his starting point. The transition from this track to the powerful closer “Chapter X” shows how he got here: family, love, and confidence. It’s a great last call moment, with Anon’s storytelling moving along a sick horn loop to describe his family life and his hope to work for the future. It feels right that this track has no major beat switches: it feels like a moment of clarity, capitalized by Anon’s uncle closing the record out to applause.
So yeah, if you couldn’t tell, I liked this project a lot. It took me a while to write this, partially because I wanted to get this record right, but also because I tend not to love when I write about stuff as a fan. One of my favorite Anon lines ever from “Chapter VII” changed that mentality though. “Be inspired, don’t become a fan.” This is the type of album that inspires creativity, inspires good playlists, inspires feelings, and of course inspires analyzing music. Get inspired, listen to this one. - Soflosound
GF Anon continues his genre-bending artistic journey with his latest deluxe release album BluMan (Special Edition).
Following his recent “Clutch City,” single featuring King JVY B, along with the deluxe edition of his Forever Is A Long Time collab project with Off Beat Ninja, GF Anon circles back with a massive update of BluMan, inspired by the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop.
The 23-track offering delivers yet another dose of modern boom-bap rap coupled with soulful Jazz and nostalgic sampling.
A self-described fan and devout follower of artists and musicians such as John Coltrane, Nas, Tupac and many more, GF Anon has molded his entire career around soulful principles of creativity.
In fact, he revealed that part of the inspiration behind the project is that same power struggle between lower vibrations and one’s highest self. “The album is a tale of higher self vs lower self,” GF Anon said. “The tale of rehabilitation and finding out who you really are.” - 1stdayfresh
In a world where modern music seems to be at a peculiar point, we need a cleanse for our auditory pallets. This is where GF Anon steps in with his new project BluMan (Special Edition), a vivid cornucopia of soul chops and precise punchlines. With a heavy amount of music and 23 tracks, for the world to digest and live with, it may seem like a ton of music from a distance. But GF has included the instrumentals to give the ear an extra treat.
With this Camden, New Jersey-bred emcee’s perspective shaping the music he makes below, it’s astounding to hear the varietals he can push his waves to. Personal favorites that stand out on the project include “Price Of Admission”, “At Last”, “Truman” and “Mother”. Though those make the biggest initial impression, each cut adds to the epic cohesion. GF Anon is on to something, don’t sleep. - DailyChiefers
Tired of the same old rap bars? Look no further than what GF Anon is cooking up in the studio these days. The New Jersey native comes through clutch with his new BluMan studio album.
The project really sounds fire and from the first song, you’re locked in. Peep some of the details and check out the full-fledged stream a little further down. - Attack The Culture
Today, there is no shortage of ways to cope with sadness, frustration, and depression. Prescribed medication. Western medicine. Eastern medicine. Psychological and psychiatric treatments. Journaling. Yoga. And, for many of us, the arts are a source of more than kinesthetic, visual, and audible distractions and inspirations. For New Jersey-based MC GF Anon, like many renegades, visionaries, and icons in Hip Hop, he created his debut album “Canvas of a Radiant Child” when he was at his lowest. He told us how after having quit his job and being on the fence about creating music, he locked himself “in the studio and dedicated two to three months to craft the album.”
And bonus: “The love it received was unexpected.
This is not a surprise, based on what “Canvas of a Radiant Child” includes (full disclosure: your author has heard it). While GF Anon describes it being comprised of “different art pieces, with each art piece expressing a different sentiment or message,” it is more than an underground classic. It is inclusive, deeply honest, and candid in ways we may not realize we need. The fourth track, “Samo’s Loop,” this author heard not long after seeing the remarkable King Pleasure; the tune and the lyrics both reinforced and awakened my love of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s work. You can hear this creative and visionary album (which the artist donated to The Hip Hop Museum) and purchase it on Bandcamp.
GF Anon gave us another album – “Inshallah XXVII: Finding Self” – and it being only his second album, it is a remarkable one. He described going “left field with it,” which may be true relative to who the artist is. The album’s theme and subject matter – spirituality, self-awareness, only extracting truth from both – resonates hard. “Inshallah” translates from Arabic as “If God wills.” Whatever spirit we related to or rely upon, everyone can appreciate when they dug deep, or when they got to a place where we had to change course. When asked why he donated his signature albums, GF Anon stated, “The gift represents Hip Hop history and culture because the music I create, exemplified by my first two albums, embodies the soul, creativity, and art of Hip Hop.”

Bio
In a state of hip-hop that is oversaturated with trap beats and club bangers, it feels like a breath of fresh ocean air when we find a gem hidden amongst the rubble; a sound we may have forgotten existed in hip-hop. GF Anon (formerly known as Darnell Little) of Camden, New Jersey is one of those shining stars we’re waiting to watch explode in the years to come.
His music is described to some as “experimental”, “unorthodox” and heavily influenced by the trials and tribulations of his life. His music also has a “laid-back, “soulful” and "powerful" vibe that most musicians lack in this day and age.
