New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ iAM Entertainment Group) Young Florida singer/songwriter Camryn Wessner has catapulted to the top of the Official European Indie Chart 'ToP INDéCOUVERTES' and is ranked #1 on the popular chart.
She recently attracted global attention when her single 'Polaroid' was selected as 'Cool New Music - Hot/Mod/AC' on Jan 25th by AllAccess.com. This new achievement by the young star has helped to build momentum for her forthcoming follow-up release 'Temporary', co-written by Stan Lynch - a founding member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Wessner's rise in European popularity is a study in modern music distribution.
Wessner's single 'Polaroid' was digitally released to radio via two distributors: PlayMPE and Radio Submit. This means the single was not sent out on CD, rather sent to radio via e-mail blasts by the distributors, Twitter tweets, Facebook posts and emails by the radio promoter, and via music delivery software that resides on the computer desktop of program directors.
Christopher Marcy, Label Manager for the European digital label ALIEN PROD based out of France, discovered Camryn's 'Polaroid' on Radio Submit: "We fell under the charm of Camryn Wessner and immediately put 'Polaroid' on High Airplays on NETRADIO". Marcy stated that NETRADIO's current average daily audience is about 200,000 player openings internationally.
NETRADIO's frequent plays of Wessner's single caught the attention of the rest of the European radio market and resulted in Wessner reaching #2 on the Official European Indie Chart, which is broadcast to over 700 FM radio stations in Europe and Canada. Marcy praises Wessner: "The European market was quickly seduced by Camryn's bohemian musical universe, with rare lyrics, beauty and infinite grace."
About the EP
Wessner's acclaimed EP 'Temporary' was co-produced by Stan Lynch (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Eagles, The Band, Don Henley, Joe 90, Scotty Moore, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Mavericks, Ringo Starr, Jeff Healey Band, Eddie Money, Tim McGraw, The Mavericks, and more) and Billy Chapin (Don Henley, Sister Hazel, Bob Dylan, Eagles, Aretha Franklin, John Cougar Mellencamp, Stevie Nicks and more).
With industry heavyweights Lynch and Chapin mentoring, Camryn was given a comfortable recording environment which reflects on her folk-rock type of sound. She has frequently been compared to Stevie Nicks, Jewel, and Sheryl Crow of today. Lynch co-wrote with Wessner the title track to her EP 'Temporary'. "They bring out the best in me", Camryn says about her super-producers.

Music was always a part of Camryn Wessner’s life growing up. The petite, soft-spoken 20-year-old says she was inspired by her maternal grandmother to join in and sing along with the church congregation as a child. “She had such a good heart – she was the most honest and truthful person I’ve ever known,” says Camryn, who lost her grandmother early last year. Camryn channeled that same honesty and truth into her singing and songwriting on Temporary, her professional debut EP* produced by noted music industry veterans Billy Caldwell and Stan Lynch.
Camryn was born here in Dothan and lived the life of a normal kid: soccer leagues at Westgate Park, video games with friends, hanging out at Wiregrass Commons mall. Her ear for music began to develop after her mother signed her up for piano lessons. “I really only took the piano lessons as a way of getting to the guitar,” says Camryn. Her dad, Dr. John Wessner, introduced her at an early age to the music of John Mellencamp, James Taylor and Alicia Keys. She also began to listen to bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the White Stripes and 311. She ended up taking guitar lessons here in Dothan from Lucci Brisc. “He was such a great guitar teacher,” she remembers. “He really taught me the fundamentals which I still use today.”
In eighth grade she moved to Fort Butler, Fla., with her mom. By high school she had become comfortable on the piano, ukulele, guitar, and harmonica. There she developed even further, writing her own lyrics and music as the lead vocalist and songwriter for a local band called Victory Boulevard. They played the bar circuit in college towns like Gainesville and Jacksonville and her time spent with the band honed her musical talents and boosted her confidence playing on stage in front of a crowd.
“My mom really wanted me to make a CD just for the family to have,” says Camryn. “I enjoyed songwriting and playing the guitar, but I knew I needed to work on my voice before that could happen.” For three and a half years, Camryn made the two-hour drive every Saturday to Orlando for voice lessons with Manny Lujan, a respected voice instructor. Last year Lujan decided to open a talent management agency in Orlando as a platform to help his students. Lujan was impressed with Camryn’s growth as a vocalist and natural ability as a songwriter. He introduced Camryn to music producers Billy Chapin (Sister Hazel, Backstreet Boys, Edwin McCain) and Stan Lynch (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Eagles, Don Henley) who collaborated with Camryn to produce her debut six-track release, Temporary.
“They bring out the best in me,” says Camryn. “They make me feel really comfortable with my abilities and collaborating.” The songwriting process is very free-form for Camryn, who plays much of her music by ear. “I never write anything down,” she says. “I improvise a lot of the melody and chords and I always remember them the next time I have to perform.”
The title song of Temporary was written in just a couple of hours with Camryn at the microphone playing around with a few variations of a song idea she had in her head. Producer Stan Lynch liked what he heard and told her to keep exploring the chords, lyrics and melody. Their collaboration on that song is her favorite on her EP, but the one closest to her heart is a soulful, simple song called “Save You.”
“It’s about a little boy named Alex who has hemophilia [a bleeding disorder which makes a person’s blood difficult to clot]. He’s a little boy who I would babysit while trying to make ends meet. I was always trying to save him from accidentally hurting himself,” says Camryn. “Hemophilia is rough on little kids because there are lots of ways in which they can get easily injured.” During Dothan Magazine’s interview with Camryn, she brought our office to a stand-still as she performed a soulful, acoustic version of “Save Me” for our website.
As for the title song, “Temporary,” Camryn says the meaning behind that song comes from the changes we all face in life – and her Christian outlook. “Our time on Earth is only temporary,” she says. “But also, life can be bittersweet with all of the changes we go through and the different people and places which come into our lives. If you can’t accept that most everything you come across is temporary, then you’re going to have a hard time dealing with things… it’s good to be able to adapt.’”
Camryn’s managers are now booking as many shows for her as they can, hoping to give her the exposure she needs to produce a new full album. Camryn recently opened at concerts for Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel and a reunion of the Dixie Desperados, drawing strong reviews at both concerts. She’s now getting ready to begin touring to support her new release, but she’s also eager to get back into the studio to lay down the tracks for many new songs which she has written since the recording for Temporary.

For Camryn Wessner, music is a scrapbook of her life since she began writing songs at the age of 14.
“I can always go back to any given song I’ve written over time, whether it’s written down and I thumb through a notebook or it’s an old CD I find and it’s not written on so I don’t know what it is and then I put it in and it’s some ancient recording of some song I forgot about,” the 20-year-old Dothan native said. “It helps me remember how my life has been moving.”
She began writing songs in middle school and learned to play piano, guitar and eventually the ukulele.
Her first time performing alone in front of people was at her own goodbye party, when she moved with her mother and sister from Dothan to Gainesville following her parents’ divorce. Her father, a doctor, still lives and works in Dothan.
Sitting in a Dothan coffee shop recently, Wessner had made the trip back to Dothan to promote her debut six-song EP, “Temporary,” released in December through Universal Music and produced by former Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ drummer Stan Lynch and Billy Chapin, who has produced Edwin McCain, Backstreet Boys and Sister Hazel. Wessner even opened for Sister Hazel during a recent performance.
Until last year, Wessner wasn’t sure a solo career in music was really something she could do. But her mindset changed when she was signed by the managing company iAM Entertainment Group.
“I had people that wanted to help reinforce what I was doing,” Wessner said. “I feel like other people have helped me see that I should be doing this, and it’s not a waste of my time. It was just kind of my thing for a while. I definitely want to share it.”
A fan of experimental music and instrumentals, Wessner describes her own work as easy-listening. The songs on “Temporary” are a mix of pop, rock and, as Wessner put it, “soft and sweet.” The songs were written by Wessner, except for one. The EP’s title track was co-written by Lynch and Wessner. Another track on the EP, “Save You” features Wessner’s voice accompanied only by the strumming of a ukulele.
Wessner actually wrote the first single off the EP, “Polaroid,” when she was in 10th grade. “Because of You” was written during recording sessions when she was in the studio working on the EP.
“Temporary” was actually the final song written for the EP with the lyrics by Wessner and the music by Lynch. It seemed like an appropriate title for the EP, Wessner said.
“It really made me realize sometimes you can’t hold on to things forever,” she said. “It’s not always a bad thing. There’s a reason things are temporary, and there’s a reason time heals things – it’s because we move on and we interact with things we didn’t know were out there and learn things that we didn’t think were possible to ever understand. And we get older.
“To me it’s bittersweet. It’s bad that some things can’t last forever, but it’s really good you can get through things. There’s always an after to everything that happens.” - Dothan Eagle

When you have something that you're so passionate about that you can live for every day, it makes life a lot more purposeful and meaningful to you and the way you live it’. Camryn Wessner is only 19 years old. But she knows what she wants. The Dothan, Alabama-born singer-songwriter who now currently calls Gainsville, Florida home may be young but the adage is true when it comes to her: Age is nothing but a number. Her musical experience may have sprung just recently but this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not brimming with fiery passion.
As a little girl, Camryn sang in church because her grandmother inspired her to sing and play music. She grew up listening to the music styling of John Mellencamp and Allison Kraus, and she had learned to play the piano, ukulele, guitar, and harmonica. Then she developed even further, writing her own lyrics and music. She became the vocalist for a band called Victory Blvd in high school and the time she spent in the group proved to be a great experience. Not only did she learn how to hone her musical talents, she was able to boost her confidence playing on stage in front of a crowd. Of course like anything, bands had to break up and Camryn walked away a different person – the better version of herself.
As Camryn set her sights on a stellar music debut, she was mentored by notable musical forces – respected producers Stan Lynch, a founding member of band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Billy Chapin, who has worked with hitmakers from Backstreet Boys, O-Town, to Gainsville’s very own, Sister Hazel. With Lynch and Chapin at the helm, Camryn was given a comfortable recording environment which reflects on her easy-listening type of sound. Lynch co-wrote with Camryn the title track to her EP ‘Temporary’. ‘They bring out the best in me’, Camryn says about her super-producers. What came out of those wonderful recording sessions is Camryn’s very own EP that features six original tracks such as ‘Polaroid’ and ‘Temporary’, the latter speaking volumes of Camryn’s personal philosophy. ‘If you can't accept that most everything you come across is temporary, then you're going to have a hard time dealing with things… but it's good to be able to adapt…’
Recently, Camryn opened for Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel at Florida Gateway College in Lake City. At the concert, Camryn was given some sage advice from one of her many musical inspirations. ‘Ken… pulled me aside and (said), Writers don’t talk about writing, they write. Singers don’t talk about singing, they practice what they do. Keep doing what you’re doing. Just don’t forget to not stop,’ Camryn shares. Camryn Wessner is still growing and we will watch her as she continues to do so as a music artist. And it will be phenomenal. Gainesville, Florida (Top40 Charts/ iAM Entertainment Group) 20-yr old Singer/Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Camryn Wessner has just released her debut EP "Temporary", produced by Stan Lynch (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Eagles, Don Henley) and Billy Chapin (Sister Hazel, Edwin McCain).
The Dothan, Ala., native said she draws influences from the music of her childhood, naming performers like John Cougar Mellencamp and Alison Krauss as some of her guides. As far as her own music is concerned, Wessner said she hopes she uplifts and inspires listeners of all types.*
"When you have something that you're so passionate about that you can live for every day, it makes life a lot more purposeful and meaningful to you and the way you live it," she said. "I would hope that I wouldn't just inspire musicians or artists, but that my music can help people be inspired to do what they really wanna do with their lives."
She also said Lynch and Chapin were the reason for the comfortable recording environment that captured what Wessner calls her easy-listening style of music. Lynch even co-wrote the title track, complementing Wessner's words and melody with music.*

Wessner recently opened for Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel, as well as opening for a much-anticipated reunion of the Dixie Desperados. She drew rave reviews at both concerts and is now preparing to hit the road to support her new release.

‘When you have something that you're so passionate about that you can live for every day, it makes life a lot more purposeful and meaningful to you and the way you live it’.

Inspiration is the name of the game when it comes to Camryn Wessner's music.
The 19-year-old local recording artist is preparing the release of her new EP, "Temporary," this December.
The Dothan, Ala., native said she draws influences from the music of her childhood, naming performers like John Cougar Mellencamp and Alison Krauss as some of her guides. As far as her own music is concerned, Wessner said she hopes she uplifts and inspires listeners of all types.
"When you have something that you're so passionate about that you can live for every day, it makes life a lot more purposeful and meaningful to you and the way you live it," she said. "I would hope that I wouldn't just inspire musicians or artists, but that my music can help people be inspired to do what they really wanna do with their lives."
Learning to Fly Solo
Vocalist for the band Victory Blvd while in high school, Wessner said her time in the group helped her "learn to perform."
"I think I just decided that it was nice to be responsible for myself as a musician. It helps me kinda grow when I can think and write on my own kind of terms," Wessner said. "But being in a band was definitely a really good experience. It helped me have a growing stage performance so I'm not just sitting up there singing."
Influences and Icons
Wessner has had help from some notable musical forces, from respected producers Stan Lynch, a founding member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Billy Chapin, who has worked with the Backstreet Boys and O-Town, to Gainesville's own Sister Hazel. Wessner even opened for Ken Block and Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel on Oct. 22 at Florida Gateway College in Lake City.
At the concert, she received some advice from one of her many musical inspirations.
"Ken, before he left, he pulled me aside and he was like, ‘Writers don't talk about writing, they write. Singers don't talk about singing, they practice what they do. Keep doing what you're doing. Just don't forget to not stop,'" Wessner said.
She also said Lynch and Chapin were the reason for the comfortable recording environment that captured what Wessner calls her easy-listening style of music. Lynch even co-wrote the title track, complementing Wessner's words and melody with music.
"Since they've been in the industry and have been experienced for so long, I think it's just easy for them to make people feel comfortable so that they can perform the best," she said. "I think that's why they're so good at it. They bring out the best in me. They make me feel really comfortable with my abilities and collaborating."
Whatever Comes Her Way
As she prepares for the album's release, Wessner said she plans on continuing to play shows and eventually embarking on a tour, taking on whatever comes her way.
"As far as being signed to a record label nowadays, you really kinda have to have it all together beforehand," she said. "So we're trying to get a CD and a music video done, so that come 2012, that's gonna hopefully be the year that I really start to promote myself."
Recorded during the summer out of St. Augustine, the "Temporary" EP features six tracks, the title track, debut single "Polaroid" and a bonus track. All of the songs are streaming on Facebook, but hard copies will hit shelves Dec. 13.
As for her favorite track, Wessner said the EP's namesake is the one that brought to surface a particular message not only for listeners but for the singer-songwriter herself.
"If you can't accept that most everything you come across is temporary, then you're gonna have a hard time dealing with things," she said. "That's what this album really brought to surface for me. A lot of my life I didn't want to change and let go, but it's good to be able to adapt to your surroundings because everything's pretty temporary."
