The more bands & musicians I meet, talk to, watch perform and photograph, the more I appreciate the talent here in Ontario. Canada truly has some amazing talent that is yet to be fully discovered. One of the artists I recently had the pleasure of seeing perform was none other than Courtney Bowles at Gravity Lounge in Oshawa. Front man for Rich With Sin (Richie Roberts) hosts an incredible weekly open mic night. I encourage fans of live music to check it out and musicians to come play. Small venue with great sound thanks to Jason Kellar. Courtney graced everyone with a live performance and reaffirmed the need for artists to be heard. In short she is talented, creative and I look forward to seeing where her music career goes. She graciously accepted my invitation for this blog. Here's what she had to say....

RD) Where are you from?

CB) I was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario

RD) When did you start singing and playing guitar?

CB) Pretty much as soon as I could talk I was singing and putting on performances for family and friends. I started Piano when I was 7 and guitar when I was 11.

RD) Who are your musical influences

CB) I am so inspired by The Beatles which I have tattooed on my arm and Natalie McMaster who has always been an inspiration to me as well.

RD) Do you write your own music or collaborate with others?

CB) I have been writing songs ever since I could touch a piano But I also love collaborating with others.

RD) Who are some of your favorite artists you've worked with?

CB) My all Time favorite collaboration was with a fellow Canadian Singer/ Songwriter Tyler Adam called “You Know”. Another favorite was a song written by Tommy Ludford called “Designer Girl”, He lives in the UK so it was so exciting to get the opportunity to add some harmonies on his track.

RD) What's been your favorite place/ places to play live?

CB) My Favourite place to play live is Jozo’s at Blue Mountain. I also had a ton of fun at Gravity in Oshawa where I got the opportunity to play some new material.

RD) If you could work with any artist/ band who would it be?

CB) Paul McCartney. No Question.



RD) What would be your ultimate venue to play?

CB) I would love to play one day at the Grammy Awards. It would be such an honor. I also would love to perform for New Years in Ottawa.

RD) What do you like to do in your down time for fun?

CB) I have a very fluffy dog I spend lots of time with, I love long boarding and being outside so I love taking my guitar and just seeing where the day takes me.

RD) Anything you are working on now that you'd like to share so we can look forward to it?

CB) Yes, Right now i'm working on my EP called “The Truth”.

RD) Where can people see you live next?

CB) Wed March 8th I am planning to head downtown to check out Touche Lounge for Jay’s Open Mic.

RD) Where can people find you online?

CB) I have a music page on Facebook which is where I post links to my songs on Soundcloud and Youtube as well as network with musicians.

RD) Anything you'd like people to know about you or a quote you like to leave us with?

CB) “Share the Love” is a quote that represents myself and my music. Music is love. Music can change everything. You just have to let it!
