There’s a foggy altar in the dank green swamps of Florida where an alchemy of sludgy riffs and despair are brewing. Count The Dead lives in this space between the expansiveness of Sleep and the weight of Electric Wizard. Former Shiver drummer Bill Hickok lays down aggressive and hard hitting rhythm that forms the foundation of this behemoth. Their sound thickens with the deep buzzing bottom of doom-laden bass riffage from previous Cavalry bassist Tyler Glisson. Interplaying with the bass, Nick Vicenzi’s guitar work ranges from Sabathy atmosphere to walls of crushing rhythm. Channeling the darkness at the front stage is Jesse Byrdic (of Raingod). Byrdic’s vicious outpourings are a morose bluesy vocal style of chest rumbling mids and hellish highs. Count The Dead’s onstage frenzy is a raw release of uncompromising heaviness.
