"Consinity - Sea of Lonely review metal hardrock grunge ballad 2013"

Consinity was formed in Florida in 2005. The band is set to release its debut album in Spring 2014. It may seem a long time since the start, but the band had to solidify its sound and line-up before moving on.
"Sea of Lonely" is Consinity's latest rock ballad. The track opens with a gentle guitar, making you expect the motif to be a foretaste of a typical ballad. Yet the song is not deprived of heavier, rhythmical tunes thanks to the hard rock, grunge and progressive rock influences that come up soon after the intro.

You'll find passion, emotion and dynamics running within the music of Mark Kievit (drums), Jack Rose (bass), Wayne Hite and Chris Shupe (both on guitars). They perform very well when it comes to individual instrumental parts, as well as collectively. Moreover, their arrangements written for vocals and bass sound very melodious. If you focus a bit more, your ears should catch and follow these two lines only. The guitar solo with a bit of shredding near the end of the track puts a high accent on the rhythmic and repetitive background.

There's a undeniable yet neat contrast between the high pitched guitar and slightly raspy but still lyrical vocals. Beau Brady has a great voice representatively showcasing the genres mentioned earlier. In fact, it is as memorable as that of Daniel Johns (Silverchair) or Layne Stanley (Alice in Chains).
Additional, angrier background vocals performed by Wayne Hite and Jack Rose support Beau and give the track an edgy flavor. The lyrics also perfectly fit into the arrangements and refer to feelings of solitude and frustration.

The composition sounds complete since there are no empty, unused spaces. The majority of it is based on catchy motifs and a chorus that will not leave your ears for the next few hours past the first listening. The intro interlocks with the ending part very well. Both the musical theme and the voice remain haunting.
What we’re given here is quite convincingly a potential hit.

"Artist of the Day Consinity"

Consintiy are a ruckus-heavy rock/metal band on a mission to entertain and enlighten. They’ve been very busy as of late, releasing a shocking video for their song Piece of Me, recording a heavy cover of Katy Perry’s E.T. and releasing their debut album, Awaken the Fallen. This Saturday, they will celebrate with a CD release party at Pro Star Recording Studios in St. Petersburg.

Consinity are Beau Brady, vocals; Mark Kievit, drums; Ryan Sunagawa, guitar; Jack Rose, bass; and Chris Schupe, guitar. Rose filled us in on all their current goings-on.

How long has Consinity been together?

As far as the current lineup is concerned, about a good three years, except with the addition of the new guitarist.

What is the band’s origin?

That’s a really good question. It’s hard for me to say, since I wasn’t there at the starting point. As far as I know, the story goes, the band started a good nine years ago. There have been member changes and hiatuses. I remember when I joined; I was pretty much the final piece of the current and most long-lasting lineup. One lead guitar player left and we replaced him. The new guy’s (Ryan Sunagawa) first show is gonna be this Saturday.

What does the name Consinity signify?

It’s a play on concinnity, but the original spelling is a little different. The word means harmony, as far as I know.

How does that describe and encapsulate your music?

There are different parts to the whole. It’s not a one-man show. It’s not like how Guns N’ Roses was built on Slash and Axl Rose. Everyone has their own shoes to fill. Everyone plays an equal role all the way around. As far as musically and the stage performance is concerned, there isn’t any one face, or any one name, or anything like that. It’s just one giant machine.

What genre of metal do you feel you fit into?

I can’t say we’re 100 percent a metal band, and I can’t say we’re 100 percent a hard rock band. The way I always describe it is that we are right on the fine line between hard rock and metal.

What compelled you to record a cover of Katy Perry’s E.T.?

(Laughs) From what I remember, Chris brought that song to the table. He really likes when a metal band covers rock songs. When he first brought it, I was like, “Yes, this is great!” Everyone else hopped on board not long after. We took the approach to completely rewrite the song as if it were written by a rock/metal band. We entirely changed the face of the song. We also felt that song in particular, since Katy Perry is pretty big, will help bring a little more attention from those who like more pop music, or those who like more commercial radio rock.

Tell us about the Piece of Me Video.

Oh, God, I could go on all day about that one (laughs). The idea was brought by Beau, our singer. He directed it for the most part. He wanted to come up with an anti-bullying campaign surrounding the song. That’s what we did for the music video.

There are some scenes that are pretty graphic, especially at the start when the kid shoots (up) the high school and there’s blood and gore… but, once you get through that, the video talks about being able to stand up for yourself and not taking s--- from people. The kid contemplates bringing the gun to school and shooting and dealing with his problems that way, which is a really hot issue in America right now. We wanted to bring that to light. As the video progresses, you see that he’s being told that you don’t do things like that. You stand up for yourself. You use your hands and put up a fight. You don’t just blow everyone away. That’s wrong. If you’re gonna handle this, you’re gonna do it right. You’re gonna stand up for what you believe in. That’s pretty much the idea of the video. There’s action, there’s us playing, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. It does have an overall positive message at the end.

What can one expect to experience at a Consinity show?

Sex, drugs and rock 'n’ roll. (laughs) No, I’m joking. We have our own light show. We have a very diverse set. We have straight-up catchy songs, we have heartfelt songs, we have heavy songs you can throw down in the pit to. We all bring our own personalities to the stage, very much so. At the end of the day, you’ll get honesty on stage.
