Bio
Based in Lawrence, KS, Clowder started in 2014 when Cody Case and Chelsy Larson started playing together for small gigs around town. Chelsy's voice is a haunting cross between Stevie Nicks and Bonnie Raitt, while Cody's songwriting lyrical and stylistic influences draw from such artists as The Doors, Elliot Smith, and Ani Difranco. Clowder is Folk-Rock Fusion with gripping melodies and poetic lyrics, layered with jazzy keyboard and guitar solos upon a solid percussive rhythmic foundation for an upbeat and contemplative album of love, longing, loss and adventure.
Musical genres and stylistic influences on the album include folk, rock, blues, funk, jazz, latin, and reggae. Clowder began the recording project in early 2016 and recorded all 14 tracks on the album in the Lawrence Public Library Sound + Vision Studio and in Cody's basement with local sound engineer John Griffin.
CLOWDER is a collective noun for a group of cats. Cody, Chelsy, Will, Michael, Dylan and Azad practice in Cody's basement, which is inhabited by two enchanting Siamese cats who dominate the territory and inspired the group's name.
The end product of "Sunny with a Chance of Clowder" is a well-rounded collection of upbeat and contemplative songs about love, longing, loss, and hope.
