"ChevyGurl’s Latest Single “Clap at Em” Brings New Energy to Classic Tracks"

ChevyGurl, the rising star with a unique style, has just dropped her latest single, “Clap at Em.” And it’s already making waves. The track interpolates Jay-Z’s “Dirt off Ya Shoulders” and Cassidy’s “I’m a Hustla,” but ChevyGurl’s spin on it adds a whole new level of energy and attitude.

Known as “the gesture killer,” ChevyGurl refuses to be confined to any particular genre or style. Her music is about breaking down barriers and pushing boundaries, and “Clap at Em” is no exception. With her signature swagger and confidence, she takes on the haters and naysayers and comes out on top.

If you want a fresh take on classic tracks, “Clap at Em” is worth listening to. ChevyGurl is a force to be reckoned with, and this single is just the latest example of her unique talent and style. - HypeFresh

"CHEVYGURL – CLAP AT EM [SINGLE]"

ChevyGurl‘s single “Clap At Em,” with its commanding beat and aggressively swaggering lyrics, is a grand example of the up-and-coming Tampa-based rap artist’s ability to turn up the energy on a track. With tons of uncut bravado, Chevy runs down her resume for the world to judge while unabashedly voicing her love for the hustle and the spoils it brings. The track’s unapologetic confidence is as magnetic as it is infectious, making it impossible not to root for ChevyGurl as she puts in work on the track and in her career. The production by Lew Drummin is steeped in the kinetic energy that is a hallmark of southern underground hip-hop, making it a model pairing for ChevyGurl‘s true-grit approach to the rap game. “Clap At Em” definitely packs a punch that lets you know right away that ChevyGurl means business. With an amped-up beat and some serious bars to match, it’s a track that is bound to turn heads and draw comparisons to some of the most dynamic female artists in rap.

“Clap At Em” is taken from ChevyGurl‘s recently released debut EP, Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It.

"Meet ChevyGurl"

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to ChevyGurl. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

ChevyGurl, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the toughest things about progressing in your creative career is that there are almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?

I was onto to gaining a bigger audience. I was doing shows for hundreds to thousands of people. I was getting my name out there and doing shows. Then one night back in September of 2018, I got into an accident that derailed my life. My car was totaled and I was told that I was lucky to be alive. Had I been in a car that was even slightly less safe I would’ve been dead. I had a long term concussion and my memory was messed up from an undiagnosed brain injury. I wasn’t able to remember my lyrics, parts of my child hood and even sometimes the day before. Even now I struggle with finding the words I want to say. Sometimes they’re on the tip of my tongue but I just can’t pinpoint the word so I throw different words out to describe what I’m trying to say and hope someone says the correct word. I have anxiety and ptsd because of that accident. I haven’t gotten over it, but I learn to deal with it. I know that I’m a fighter and that I have goals, dreams and aspirations and I will accomplish what I was set on this earth to do.

ChevyGurl, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My father used to be a dj and was involved with the squirrel. We’ve always had a studio in the cribo so artist would be in and out recording. I used to sneak in and play with pro tools and their sessions just learning and teaching myself. Then I decided that I’ve been doing the technical side for so long why not write. Thus ChevyGurl was born. I’m most proud of the people that I’ve touched and helped. They’ve helped me as well because they are why I keep pushing forward. I want to gain a following that isn’t afraid to be themselves. No matter how “weird”, quirky, wild they make seem or be called. A space where you can be accepted and just vibe without fear of being judged because no one is perfect. So I don’t think it’s fair to pretend to be so.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?

The best thing that someone can do to support us is to share our work. Not everyone can afford to purchase something and they aren’t obligated to, however, a share is free. Helping us reach more eyes would be wonderful. Even if it’s just one more set of eyes than before. Every set of peepers counts. Every set of peepers matter.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Of course. I want to inspire those who feel that what they want to do is impossible. I want to show them that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. You can do more than you think if you push beyond your limits. Believe in yourself even when others don’t and don’t let a no deter you from your path. I want to be able to put other artist in my position. I want to sign artist to my label and help them make their dreams a reality.

"ChevyGurl reveals 'Skinny Jeans' ft. Sada James"

Hailing from beautiful Tampa, Florida comes rapper ChevyGurl (Vanisha Davis). Her father is a long-time music producer/D J, so she grew up in the studio. While her first official single was only just released, ChevyGurl has been writing since she was in elementary school. Named for her love of classic cars- particularly the ’67 Chevy Impala- ChevyGurl is not only a dreamer, she’s a doer: “I chase after what I want, and I don’t stop to take a breath” she said in a recent Instagram post. While her music is compared to hip-hop and R&B, ChevyGurl ultimately cannot be compared to anyone else. In fact, her debut album (which she expects to release in the next few months) is going to be called No Genre, because it can’t be described by any single label.

ChevyGurl started 2017 off strong, releasing her first official single “Skinny Jeans” on January 1. “Skinny Jeans” features Cincinatti-based recording artist Sada James, and has received airplay on 95.7 The Beat, Tampa’s Hip-Hop/R&B radio station as well as other stations around the Southeast. The song will make your head bob and your feet move immediately from start to finish. “Skinny Jeans” was produced by Demorio Hall and composed by Vanisha Davis (ChevyGurl) and Sada James.
The “Skinny Jeans” music video is a dazzling visual effort. Produced and directed by Brent Mendoza, it was filmed in Sarasota, and Bradenton, Florida, just over an hour south of Tampa. ChevyGurl says the video is “about a girl who has everything in life.” Our leading lady goes to the mall to pick out “the cutest pair of jeans”, drives two different convertibles (a red Chevy and a black Ford Mustang), and meets some cute guys along the way. We see her in various outfits throughout the video, always featuring skinny jeans and always “looking fine as hell”, as ChevyGurl sings in the chorus. - NewsDeck

"YIKIS music digest #1 ‘Music to spend your money on’"

lso hot in the news and the commercial market are ‘Skinny Jeans’ some people wear them, others like to look at them & others sell them. Some people love Skinny Jeans so much that they would dedicate their writing skills, voice and producer time to it in order to make a ‘Skinny Jeans’ tune. Actually I’m not really aware of a scene of artists dropping ‘Skinny Jeans’ hits, so ChevyGurl’s potential hit single ‘Skinny Jeans’ might be the first one of its kind! Even though being aware of a compilation entirely dedicated to pants, I’m fairly sure there had be no tribute to Skinny Jeans whatsoever! So big up to ChevyGurl for crossing unexplored territories! How does it sound like? It sounds like something you would expect to encounter on the radio, a commercially worthy pop hip-hop tune with ChevyGurl singing ‘Skinny Jeans’ over a fine rattling drum that you could potentially dance too in… guess what? Skinny Jeans! To make this news even more news-worthy! Skinny Jeans is also the first single of an upcoming album that has an interesting title namely ‘No Genre’ … doesn’t that sound exciting? I’m not sure this album is out, but for the pants-less people under us with some money at hand, you can get your own ChewyGurl’s ‘Skinny Jeans’ over at the following link:

"ChevyGurl – ‘Skinny Jeans’ ft. Sada James"

ChevyGurl, real name Vanisha Davis, has been writing since she was in primary school, and takes her name from her love of classic cars – particularly the 1967 Chevy Impala.
Hailing from Tampa, Florida, the rapper is the daughter of a long time music producer and DJ, so ChevyGurl practically grew up in the studio. Her music has been compared to hip hop and R&B, but in reality she has a style all her own. Taking this one step further, her debut album, out soon, will even be called ‘No Genre’, because it can’t be restricted to just one genre.

ChevyGurl’s first official release, ‘Skinny Jeans’, features Cincinnati-based artist, Sada James, and has found radio play on 95.7 The Beat, in Tampa, as well as other stations around the South East USA. Written by ChevyGurl and Sada James, ‘Skinny Jeans’ was produced by Demorio Hall.

The video for ‘Skinny Jeans’ was produced and directed by Brent Mendoza, and filmed in Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida. It’s about a girl who has everything in life, and we follow her to the mall, where she picks out “the cutest pair of jeans”. She drives two different convertibles (a red Chevy – of course – and a black Ford Mustang), and runs into some cute guys along the way. It’s a feel good song with a great sound and the video features muted colours that make us think of those long hazy days of summer.
