More often than not, cover versions of The Beatles songs stay pretty true to the original. Respect and reverence for the time-tested originals leads artists to stick pretty close to the template. So when a new artist appears on the scene with a refreshing, updated take on a Fab Four classic, we take notice. As we noted last month, 2012 is shaping up to be a banner year of Beatles covers.
The music video premiere from CeCe Teneal features the “voice of neo-blues” making “Eleanor Rigby” her own. The soulful, bluesy track is featured on her 2011 debut album Train From Osteen. In the video below, CeCe takes black and white images of today’s political leaders, mixing them with shots of life in the streets to give the forty-five-year-old song a new relevancy. - Peter Ferioli
CECE TENEAL. She has been called the “Voice Of Neo-Blues” and it’s a title certainly worthy of a talent like CeCe Teneal. With a healthy blend of invigorating and soothing sounds, her music is not merely entertainment – it’s an experience. She has opened for B.B. King and shared the stage with Buddy Guy. Given the fact that CeCe Teneal recently received a heartwarming shout-out from President Barack Obama himself after her spine-tingling performance at the Democratic Election Campaign Fundraiser, it might be hard to imagine, but this newly anointed queen of neo-blues comes from decidedly humble beginnings. Indeed, at the tender age of six Cece was belting out spirituals from behind the pews of her church in Osteen, FL.

And even then, as her voice resonated through the church and out into the dusty streets of her country town, it was clear that the young lady had not only a special set of pipes, but an instinct for the music and sound that would carry her into the future. In October, Cece Teneal released her debut full-length, Train from Osteen, which has quickly captured the hearts and souls of listeners and critics alike, and marks not only the culmination of much hard work come to fruition, but the majestic new beginning of Cece’s reign. - Scope Magazine
Not many of us can add a personal shout-out from President Barack Obama to our list of accomplishments, but CeCe Teneal can.
In 2007, on the strength of her voice and a performance at the show she curated in Orlando, Florida, “Sunday Night Live,” Cece was hired as the lead singer of the B.B. King All-Star Band. Now, with Train from Osteen, this neo-blues maven has drawn on the influences of her childhood to redefine the sound of the blues—and everyone is taking notice.
