Cavae Mundi

Cavae Mundi (pronounced Cav-ayy Moon-dee) is a musical project from the mind of singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Zachary Huot. Forming in Pensacola, Florida in May of 2019, Cavae Mundi (of Latin origin meaning “Hollow World”) is an indie psychedelic project combining elements of Jazz, Psychedelia, Blues, and Dream Pop. 

Huot began writing Cavae Mundi songs years prior to even considering the possibility of performing them. Before this project, Huot had been a part of multiple metal/punk projects. However, after seeing a Mild High Club show in Tallahassee, Huot knew that there was a new path he must follow. Born from months of jams and experimentation an original set-list of 5 songs was settled upon and the concept of Cavae Mundi began to take shape. Huot reached out to cousin and former bandmate Dj Hadley to help bring Cavae Mundi to life in a live setting. With the excitement of new music, Huot secured a gig at a new local venue Night Moves. There was just one problem, Cavae Mundi was still half a band. With the first gig looming, Chase Gaines was recruited for Bass guitar and rehearsals began in earnest. Finally, just weeks before their first gig, Gunner Locklin was added on electric guitar and the line-up was complete. On July 20th, 2019, Cavae Mundi played their first show and began to generate momentum in the local music scene. 

Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Cavae Mundi played as often as they could, frequenting local venues up and down the emerald coast from Pensacola to Fort Walton Beach and everywhere in between. Unfortunately, like for so many other artists, the pandemic brought a screeching halt to the prospect of gigging, therefore, the band’s focus shifted to recording. After a lengthy period of planning and piecing together gear, a make-shift studio space was constructed at Gunner’s house and recording for Cavae’s first official release began. Operating 100% independently, this process proved to be a challenge for the band. In the end, after months of recording, rearranging, mixing, mastering, and many late nights for producer/frontman Zachary Huot, Cavae Mundi’s self-titled debut album was complete.

As a band and concept Cavae Mundi has continued to grow in its depth and complexity. Dark, Mysterious, Beautiful. A lost memory from the heart of our Hollow World. Bring a pale blue torch to light the way and proceed inward. We will meet you at the bottom.
