Earning himself a spot on my “Boston musicians to follow list” in recent months with his viral track “Oh My”, Camino 84 returns with a follow up: “Shining”. In opposition to the relaxed vibes of his recent work, Shining aims squarely for the dancefloor while taking a variety of nostalgic cues from classic house on Shining. Think Frankie Knuckles or early cuts on Nervous Recordings here. Glossy pianos and a swinging rhythm track work in tandem with live bass guitar to lay down the groove with chopped vocals on top adding context. - Beantown Boogiedown
His latest single, “Oh My”, is a buoyant pop tune that unfolds like a leisurely stroll with someone special. Sidney Gish‘s sweetly gentle vocals flit around a funky guitar solo like a bumblebee hopping from flower to flower on a sunny day. Mix in some day-glo synths and a bouncy piano melody and you have a masterfully crafted pop tune that exudes joy (if not with a touch of melancholy, perhaps). Regardless, you’ll find yourself nodding your head along to the beat before you even realize it. - NestHQ
Unsurprisingly, the reception with Methods Of Flotation, has been astronomical. It’s hard not to see either, with soluble amounts of funk and disco elements spread out evenly across the silky and smooth musical base. - French Shuffle
Probably what it would’ve sounded like if Pharrell Williams got into music early enough to join Madonna in an eighties/nineties vogueing frenzy. - Jackplug

Still working on that hot first release.

Bio
Camino 84 isn’t shy about nerding out. Whether uncovering forgotten dancefloor weapons or crafting original tunes, he does the homework. And the driving, forceful brand of disco he emerges with shows it all off. It’s as equally fitting headlining underground dance clubs in Boston as it is showing off the universal groove on the bill with artists like Shura, Darwin Deez, or Aaron Carter (yes, really…)
Since 2014, he’s packed his funkiest records and brought them to hip hop cyphers, underground raves, hipster bars, and frat parties, picking up a dedicated community of like-minded music lovers and crate diggers along the way, all ready to “do the homework”. Original singles like the dreamy pop of “Oh My” or the Brazilian-tinged jazz-funk of “Methods of Flotation” have racked up nearly a million streams across digital platforms (and hit the global front page of Reddit for one full day of bragging rights in August 2016). 2016 saw the release of both the well-received “Don’t read this. You will be kissed…” EP as well as a massive vinyl archival project at Boston’s legendary WRBB and an accompanying DJ mix complete with liner notes by journalist/historian Dart Adams.
Camino 84’s latest LP, New Mutant Disco, brings a new influence into the mix by way of the late-70s NYC dance punk scene. The 10 original tracks range from carefully-crafted pop songs to extended, hypnotic dancefloor workouts, brought to life with the help of a dozen Boston music scene staples, singer-songwriter Sidney Gish, and MCs KOOL A.D and Latrell James. The album is available now on iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp (at camino84.bandcamp.com), and all other major platforms.
