“Brand New Key’s album, ‘End of the Story’, is original and interesting. Great lyrics like, “it was one of those accidents I think I engineered”, show up all over the place and kept me listening for the next little gem. I kept finding it.” -

“I was just saying to my friends that I needed some more Bluegrass in my life. Well, I just finished listening to the debut album from this Austin band called Brand New Key. It's refreshingly catchy and bright. The lyrics are beautiful and the singing is lovely. I hope to catch a live show of theirs soon!” -

“Brand New Key - One of my favorite Local bands in Austin ....Positive, Fun, Accomplished Musicians who don't take themselves too seriously but serious enough to get your legs moving and your hands clapping... They have a loyal following of fans who show up at every gig and turn it into a big fun loving party. I highly recommend checking out BNK for the music and the energy they create with their fans.” -

“End of the Story is a knee slapping, toe tapping fun listen with great songwriting and great harmonies. Jack and Amy's voices blend beautifully and nestle comfortably in nice, simple arrangements that are interspersed with interesting instrumentals. Personal favorites are the title track End of the Story, Little Reminders, Possum Trot Lottery and Recovery. Do yourself a favor and put this CD on your playlist.” -

"Brand New Key celebrate the release of their first full-length"

In one way or another, Brand New Key – Austin's queer-indie-Americana band – has been strumming the bluegrass around town for the better part of four years. But this Friday night they're celebrating a new milestone: the release of their first full-length album, End of the Story. "I want to say, EOTS is a deeply personal collection of songs that exploded out of us in a rainbow fount of spiritual bliss," says Amy Moreland, the band's mandolin player and co-founder. "The unsexy reality is that we finally wrote ourselves a goodly album-worth of original songs and saved up enough band tips over a year to do it." Many of those tips were hard-earned on the In.gredients porch, which is where Friday's show will also take place. As for the queerness in their indie music, Jill Csekitz (the band's percussionist) explains it best. "We were just born that way. Our sound pretty well matches who we are." - The Austin Chronicle - Gay Place

Bio

Since 2013, the band has entertained a multitude of Austin fans with their danceable bluegrass tunes, textured instrumentals, and self-assured songwriting. The trans/queer, indie/alt-bluegrass combo is Jack Kaulfus on guitar, Amy Moreland on mandolin, Julie Shipp on bass, and Jill Csekitz & Ashley Welch on cajons/percussion.

Debut album End of the Story features nine, queer point-of-view originals as well as a cover of the Magnetic Fields’ “All My Little Words” and The Stanley Brothers’ “Clinch Mountain Backstep”. All five band members are well-known activists in the queer, feminist, and anti-racist community in Austin, and bring their passion for equality and gender justice to their music. The songs are highlighted by extraordinary mandolin playing, thoughtful songwriting, and beautiful harmonies.

The new album is available to buy as a CD or to stream or download on itunes, Spotify, Google Play, Tidal, and other streaming services.
