It’s raw and jagged in all of the ways indie rock should be. - AFROPUNK
A warm wash of reflective nostalgia, Blvck Hippie’s “Rhodes Ave” is a jazzy, sultry indie rock upheaval from and for the soul. - Atwood Magazine
Blvck Hippie showcases the powerful combination of bold lead guitar and impassioned vocals. Front person Josh Shaw opens the song by ripping a guitar lick, which weaves together seamlessly with the bass. - The Wild Honey Pie
Blvck Hippie welcomes listeners to the street of their childhood home in their newest single, “Rhodes Ave.” - The Wild Honey Pie
With new music to drop throughout the remainder of 2020, we are excited to welcome Blvck Hippie to the Ernie Ball family and look forward to what’s to come. - Ernie Ball
"Starting off slightly disjointed and reminiscent of a jam session, the song doesn’t reveal its identity until thirty seconds in. Suddenly, the entire band locks into a groove which forces you to tap your feet along to the beat..." - Two Story Melody
Opening with guitar melody that sounds like it’s engulfed in flames, the rest of the track follows suit and explodes forward with Shaw’s incendiary vocals, that, ironically, center on vulnerability and desire, on lost youth and reconciliation... - Kid with a Vinyl
Today it's the turn of the American band Blvck Hippie , who introduces you to sad boy indie rock . - The Daily Indie
Bandleader Josh Shaw’s vocals sound frantic to escape the speaker system, as befits a track recorded in the midst of a pandemic-induced quarantine. - Memphis Flyer
We’re not in the habit of gambling on bands, but in 2020 this should find some fans. - Alt77
Entering our radar with a melancholic, soul-driven piece named ‘Rhodes Ave’ is Blvck Hippie, a superb promising Indie Rock band out of Memphis, U.S. - Our Culture
If you’re a fan of The Strokes, but like your songs a little more moody, this tune might be up your alley... - From The Strait
Good news: It doesn't suck. Natalie Hawkins' lyric video highlights the angst in "Bunkbed". - Memphis Flyer
“Hotel Lobby,” from the Blvck Hippie EP, opens with a drum shuffle followed by a descending bass line; when the piano and whining guitars hit, it’s already obvious the band has neo-soul arrangements on lockdown. And it just gets better from there. - Memphis Flyer
Overall, the EP is a truly unique entity, but its glowing instrumentals and flowing vocals give it an aesthetic that would be a wonderful listen for fans of the indie, classic rock, and pop rock genres. - ALEXA O'KANE

Bio
Blvck Hippie is a Black Fronted Sad Boy Indie Rock Band from Memphis, TN tryna show Black kids they can be weird too.
Blvck Hippie’s current line up is composed of Lead Guitarist and Vocalist Josh Shaw, with Casey Rittinger on Drums, and Mattie Turner on Rhythm Guitar.
Blvck Hippie’s sound draws inspiration from The Antlers along with the work of The Strokes and The Voidz. Shaw credits Kanye West and Kid Cudi for inspiring him as a Black artist by pushing him to always make something different. Shaw’s overdriven shimmery guitars and Rittinger’s tight and polyrhythmic drums come together to create an unexpectedly delightful “VHS” inspired rock. Shaw’s dark brooding lyrics about escapism, loneliness, and grief work with the instrumentals to create the Sad Boy Indie Rock songs of your dreams.
Blvck Hippie's debut LP is scheduled for release in early 2021.
