Blaire Alise & The Bombshells

Her songs may sound retro, but her mindset is very much of the Internet age. Her drive — which balances professionalism with the love of rock ’n’ roll — is what recently got her signed to the Nashville division of indie music publisher Carlin America. This week’s release party for latest vinyl record, “Just Another Day,” is her last Detroit-based show before she heads off to NYU to study music entrepreneurship. - Detroit Free Press

High school graduation is a busy time for anyone, but for Detroit-based Blaire Alise, things are extra hectic. The garage-rock singer-songwriter and guitarist is gearing up to study at New York University in the fall, at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. On top of that, she's still recording and playing live throughout the country, including a record release show at UFO Factory on July 10.

We caught up with Alise over the phone from Nashville, where she talked with the enthusiasm of someone whose goal is to do it all and who knows she has the energy to make good on that. - Metro Times Detroit

Before you start – put on your dancing boots – Throwin’ Away (The Good You Had) opens the release with all of of sixteen seconds of plaintiff vocal, before the track evolves to hitting the dance floor and Blaire Alise And The Bombshells set to work at what they are good at – good old fashioned rockabilly. - Emerging Indie Bands/UK

That’s the key – Alise is having such a good time making this ’60s girl group-inspired rock ’n’ roll that the sound is a blast. The fact that Alise is 17 is really irrelevant, except for the fact that there is no cynicism in her music (that might come later), just heaps of joy. She belts out anthems like “You Were Made For Me” and “I Got Something” like a Little Eva/Ronnie Spector hybrid, and a troubled-love paean like “Keep Your Hands Off My Man” displays maturity beyond her years. A killer record.

It’s a very cool vid – there are elements of the opening sequence to a TV show like I Dream of Jeannie on there, and a whole lot of ’60s go-go mania.

I got to Ferndale as Blaire Alise & the Bombshells were kicking into their set. These guys are great, and the perfect festival band. They don’t really sound like anyone in the city either; the old school girl-group feel of their swingin’ rock ’n’ roll anthems is infectious in an Amy Gore sort of way, but the cutesy factor is dialed up and the snarls abandoned, resulting in a sound that sits somewhere between Ronnie Spector and the Go-Go’s. - Metro Times

Okay, so she has her own band, her band has played the renowned Metro Times Blowout, and she was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston for their summer program – where she was crowned the winner of the Berklee College of Music Singer/Songwriter competition…twice! White picket fences and diners come to mind on hitting play as Blaire Alise & The Bombshells takes us back to the ’50s and ’60s with the retro rock ‘n’ roll. Keeping it all more than just a copy the quartet inject a more contemporary garage rock inflection which keeps the music alive and interesting.

It must be a Sunday morning as this seems like the ideal fresh cool shower to get the lazy day off to a start. The very simplicity of the music is incredibly infectious and the feet begin to tap away on their own volition. Blaire Alise & The Bombshells are not attempting to reinvent the wheel and there is no need for them so to do and with the gravel of the garage rock there is enough originality to add this as a band to listen to any-time you need a pep to the day. - Emerging Indie Bands From Around the World/UK

Bombshells are comparable spinning-top-pops with their skittering guitars, warm harmonies in the sunny splendor of major keys, unabashedly embraced here for the sake of a wholesomely, cynicism-defying good time - that kinda lose-yourself time…where long before the song is over, you already know the chorus, and by the time the bridge surfs by, you're ready to sing along to the live renditions. - Metro Times Music

Blaire Alise & the Bombshells is the sort of band that can make a jaded old f**k get excited about new rock ’n’ roll. I wrote a City Slang feature about the band this week, but let’s insert some opinion here following an awesome triple bill at the New Dodge. While the rhythm section sits back a bit and guitarist Craig Adams allows us to see all of the sex faces in his sex-face-arsenal (of which there are many – one for each bend of a string), Alise takes control either by tearing the wooden heart out of her guitar, or by dancing like a go-go girl trying her hand at river dance. The set is over way too quickly; this writer would have been happy with another hour (at least) of their Shangri-Las-meets-Nancy-Sinatra rock. For people so young, the Bombshells sure visit an old school. - Metro Times Detroit
