"Along with Gillian we saw two other stellar acts, Bellechord and the Shills. Bellechord are an NY trio who kept the house lights dim so we could mojo out properly to their style of prog rock. “Houdini” is their latest." - Neat Beet

Bio
Bellechord is the thing that's created when pieces of the old are combined in a new way.
The name is coined after the bell chord effect, a technique for layering distinct instruments' melodies into a large distributed harmony. Bellechord uses this technique as a melodic trope, comping harmonies rich in seventh and ninths, flipping between rhythmic synchronization and syncopation, pairing the sensibilities of alternative rock, jazz, and disco together in a special way.
The rhythm section of Bellechord, ( Thierry Dussau and Sebastien Puech ), come from southern France. They let their European upbringing inform their style, both orienting the band into the same highly danceable space as artists like Whitest Boy Alive and Pheonix as well as into the complex and heavy spaces occupied by artists like Muse. On the other side of the ocean Vocalist / Guitarist Brian McGaw draws on art rock influences like Foals, Blond Redhead, and Nine Inch Nails to explore concept and create a sense immersion.
Bellechord have distinguished themselves as a group willing to push the boundaries of live performance. Vocalist / Guitarist Brian McGaw brings to Bellechord a skillset acquired through the creation of interactive and performative experiences for major brands like Nike, Microsoft, and Google. Drawing on that skillset, Bellechord created a unique light show which sets Bellechord's visual performance apart from other groups in their genre.
The industry has noticed and handed Bellechord opportunity down through the pipeline. Bellechord has been showcased at CMJ 2013 and SXSW (2013 and 2014). Their recently finished EP CANDOR captures the raw energy of their early sound in a pristine package, tracked live instrumentally in one day with the best gear possible.
Since recording CANDOR they've become enraptured with the practice of live instrumental tracking; stirred with conviction that the secret to "groove" in music resides in the minute timing between the notes. Accordingly they've embarked upon a new project, periodically streaming live performances on Twitter's Periscope from their studio in Queens.
2015 is going to be a big year for Bellechord. Their new sounds are punchier and more alive than ever, but also more chill and balanced. Minimal but more intense, spicy, yet sweet.
Bon appetit.
