Fronted by Mike Daniels, who found renewed purpose after a life-altering car accident, the band channels the spirits of icons like ZZ Top, The Dead South, and Muddy Waters which are some of their influences.

The ensemble boasts Jeff McCurley on lead guitar, bass, and mandolin; Paul Brown on vocals and guitar; John Cunane on bass and guitar; and Collin McCawley on drums. Their latest offering, Tap The Keg, opens with "Sold My Soul," a track that kicks off with straightforward power chords, a consistent bassline, and a steady 4/4 beat. The vocals are robust and compelling, setting a solid tone for the album.

Next, "Insect Ball" introduces a more intricate and dynamic sound. The lyrics, centered around various insects, add a quirky charm. Though still in 4/4, the drum patterns are more complex, and the distortion levels ramp up, showcasing the band's technical ability a little more.

"Dump Truck" follows, exuding a carefree vibe reminiscent of late '80s or early '90s rock. It's a track that doesn't take itself too seriously, offering a nostalgic throwback. "Ride or Die" then shifts gears dramatically with its acoustic arrangement. The minimalist composition, featuring just an acoustic guitar and an additional lead, delivers the album's most intimate moment.
The standout track, "Something I Know About," is a heartfelt ballad that tugs at the heartstrings. The piano accompaniment is sublime, complementing the most powerful vocal performance on the album. It's a song that shines in its emotional depth and might make you shed a tear.

The single "The Edge" rounds out their recent releases, a track brimming with a dark, catchy groove that wouldn't be out of place on the soundtrack of the first season of True Detective. It's a beer-worthy anthem that leaves a lasting impression. Beggars Whisky are a solid band and became a fan. You might too, so take a listen. - BuzzSlayers

In the saturated realm of modern rock, Beggars Whisky emerges with a raw, unfiltered passion that feels both familiar and refreshingly new. Their latest single, “The Edge,” encapsulates this ethos with a sound that’s as gritty as a gravel road and as evocative as a Southern Gothic novel.

The guitar tone, drenched in distortion and attitude, is a standout, weaving a sonic tapestry that is both aggressive and melodic. The vocals, perhaps an acquired taste, fit the song’s aesthetic like a well-worn leather jacket, adding to its overall authenticity. The band’s self-awareness extends beyond their music to their visual presentation. The cover art for “The Edge” conjures images of swamps, skeletons, and vampires, perfectly complementing the song’s dark and brooding atmosphere.

"Beggars Whisky - The Edge"

by Dave Franklin
Being a fan of bands like The Handsome Family and Nick Cave I appreciate Beggars Whisky’s blend of southern blues, rock and roll groove and gothic shade, that haunted and hallowed mix of seductive roots music and apocalyptic vibes. It is something that many have tried their hand at and most fallen short, all too often resulting in music which comes across as over-egged, unnecessarily needy and too theatrical. It takes a fine pen and a smart musical approach to get the balance just right. But thankfully, Beggars Whisky is in possession of both, and “The Edge” is the proof.

Sassy, that’s the word. Well, one word anyway. Others might be words and phrases such as boogiesome, dark, groove-fuelled, slinky, seductive, dark, mysterious, dark, delicious and, given its devilish associations and supernatural ways, diabolical…in its truest and most biblical meaning. Did I mention dark?

I don’t know what it is about the southern states, but the Devil seems to spend a lot of time there. But without him hanging around various crossroads, heading down to Georgia, getting busy in Knoxville, and the like, we wouldn’t have this quintessentially American, sinister yet sensational roots tradition, one that Beggars Whisky is keeping alive and doing so brilliantly.

Backbeats groove, vocals preach dark revelations, guitars sear and sweep through, and the whole thing sets up an almost shamanic sonic ritual. They say that the Devil has all the best tunes, but that isn’t exactly true; after all, Beggars Whisky has quite a few of them, too. And this is definitely one of them. - The Big Take-Over

"The Edge is Beggars Whisky's Single Out Now"

Good Day Noir Family,
From the opening guitar riff of Beggars Whisky's latest single, "The Edge,' it's clear that you're in for a rousing rock experience.
The song's infectious energy and rebellious spirit will have you raising your hand high and fist-pumping in no time.
What I love about Beggars Whisky's sound is their unique blend of rock and Americana, creating a renegade genre that makes you feel like an outlaw on the run. There are clear influences of ZZ Top and Soggy Bottom Boys in their music, but they also bring a distinctly American swagger that sets them apart. This is music that starts in the Appalachian Mountains and soaks up the vibes of the vast American plains, all infused with a cowboy cadence and attitude that makes it truly unique.
Beggars Whisky are undoubtedly skilled musicians, and their tight playing is evident throughout the song. The vocal performance is particularly impressive, with a low-tone timbre that adds a gritty authenticity to the track.
"The Edge' is a must-listen for fans of rock music with a rebellious edge. It's a song that will get your heart pumping and your feet moving, and it's sure to leave you wanting more. - Edgar Allan Poets
