The group is composed of three Nigerian-American men, Emsho, King Bulu, and Muski.
Growing up, they would freestyle on beats and make music together through Soundcloud. They developed their group name during their adolescent years as playful banter.
Later on, they realized its essence and resonated with the meaning of it considering they are Young Determined Nigerians.
Not only did they discover their love for music, they developed a strong brotherhood as well. Recently, YDN released their latest single “Malo” on their streaming platforms.
“Malo” is an upbeat song that provides a relaxed outlook on love and serenity. It is relatable for men and women. The song is filled with a chill and soulful tempo anyone can vibe to.

NIGERIAN-AMERICAN AFRO BEATS GROUP YDN RELEASES NEW SHORT FILM ‘ THE THOTIOLA STORY’
May 13, 2021 — Afro beats entertainment group YDN is excited to announce the release of their brand-new short film entitled ‘The Thotiola Story.’
The film, which was released on Thursday, May 6, 2021, highlights the controversial topic of materialism in romantic relationships and showcases the group’s ability to portray everyday issues in their music successfully. Directed by YDN & Sam Okhade.
In the film, we meet Thotiola, a beautiful young woman who will do anything to obtain wealth and the finer things in life.
The storyline of ‘Thotiola’ begins with Thotiola at a restaurant with some of her friends. Emsho sees her and thinks they have something going; however, she eventually chooses another, flashier man.Emsho proceeds to pick up his food and leaves the restaurant. While he is outside, he spots Thotiola and the man cuddled up on his old beat-down Toyota Corolla. Emsho proceeds to walk towards his Rolls Royce truck, much to Thotiola’s shock.
After this, she finds out about Emsho being a member of a famous group (YDN), and she feels compelled to do whatever it takes to get ahold of him. The story follows Thotiola as she meets up with a witch, who casts a spell on the group.
The YDN group consists of three Nigerian members who were raised in Los Angeles. Alexander Akingbulu (Bulu), Muski (Jamiu Akinbile), and Emsho (Ayodeji Emmanuel Shodiya) they are in their early twenties and grew up together. They assembled the group and began making music in 2018. They have released many popular singles, including ‘Powa’, ‘Aura’, ‘Thotiola’, and ‘Malo’.
The group has been involved in shows with mega Afro beats stars like Davido and Kizz Daniel as well as Nigerian hip-hop star, Olamide, Teni, Zlatan, Mayorkun, and Reekado Banks. The group started gaining popularity when Nigeria’s top disc jockey, DJ Tunez, noticed the song ‘Thotiola’ while touring with the group during his visit to Los Angeles.
The Afro-beats group YDN, short for Young Determined Nigerians, is a vibrant fusion of American and Nigerian vibes. These three talented young men are passionate about high-quality music, art, and culture. YDN creates a combination of Afro beat, R&B, Rap, and Soul with a Nigerian and Los Angeles twist to it, making it an original genre.

Born Alexander Akingbulu, Ayodeji Emmanuel Shodiya and Jamiu Akinbile, they are making music for the youth. They overarching ambition is to let them know they have a chance even if they make mistakes, to make music based on how they feel at the moment and relatable topics that young people tend to think off, but not say. This period of evolution has led to the growth of YDN’s creativity and undeniable talent drawn from different periods and eras of their lives. They have ultimately developed a style of Afro beats with Los Angeles infused genre-bending Alté Afro-RnB, providing the world with a new sound. With their daring edge and full of hope and reflective of their experiences, thought and ambitions, turning their vision into purpose and lessons into studio sessions.
YDN is entertaining, easygoing, and fun, but they also want to challenge thinking and utilize music as a platform to convey their opinions and tell tales. Many milestones include opening performances for Davido, Burna Boy, Olamide, Mayorkun, Dj Tunez, Kizz Daniel, Teni, Flavour, and D'banj. Also Working with grammy-nominated producers like Medua and writing songs with Atlanta-based musician Toyé.
This is the music that will push the boundaries of our perception as well as inspire and drive us to introspective conversations. It’s the music that may not change the world, but can change the people in the world.
