Bio
The story of the band starts towards the end of 2018 with Juan Carlos Martínez and Vicente Tapia. After having been a part of various bands in the past, they decided to create a style that represented their varied musical tastes. This resulted in a fusion primarily consisting of American rock and Mexican norteño that projects both the freshness and nostalgia of two very different cultures united by an alternative sub-culture that has gone mostly underserved and without a true voice or representation.
In November of 2019, Mathew West joined the ranks of the band soon after crossing paths with Juan and Vicente and coinciding in musical ideals and intentions. Shortly after, in December 2019, the band formally established itself with the release of its first single “Qué Difícil” which, with its use of the huapango cadence and a powerful layer of distorted guitars, served as an unapologetic declaration of the band’s intentions. This daring tendency continued with the subsequent releases of the tracks “De Que Sirve” (January 2020), “Así Comenzó, Así Terminó” (February 2020), and “Me Perdí” (April 2020).
Interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, XICLON was forced to halt its plans to begin playing live shows, although this consequently allowed the completion of the band’s first album “Desahogo” released December 2020. The album includes 15 songs written and self-produced by the band and touches on a variety of subjects such as depression, anxiety, heartbreak, individuality, among others.
Now in 2021, XICLON is preparing its live show as well as its second album which will surely expand the band’s musical range and will solidify its mission and position as a band to look out for over the next few years.
