"FUCK WRINKLES : A PREVIEW OF THE 21+ WRINKLES AND ALBATROSS SHOW AT BARBOZA ON FEBRUARY 8TH"

If you are reading this article and have association with KXSU you may very well know who WRINKLES is, what they do, and why they slay the dream pop world. If by some odd happening you don’t know who WRINKLES is, you are in the correct place, because you could have two chances to see them this weekend. On Friday Feb 6th WRINKLES will be the most matured of the bands at Seattle University’s Battle of the Bands, and Feb 8th you can see them in a whole new light playing a 21+ gig at Barboza. Either way you will see an awesomely energetic band with some quirks and interesting sounds.

Wrinkles is described as dream pop for a reason. They have a tad bit of a folky sound sometimes but really stick to heavy keyboard and slightly funky guitar parts. The drumming is soft but substantial and very well timed. Bass-wise, this band is the DESTROYER of other bands. I say this because with some isolation of the bass the band is very circulated around the bass parts which I think is totally rad and should probably happen more often in the world. The world is like a desert of strong bass and keyboard and WRINKLES is that dreamy fountain of cold water that you find, yet instead of drinking it right away, you call all your friends and have a pool party, because drinking pool water is unchill. Unfortunately I am still a tad parched from WRINKLES because the only have one public song. FUCK WRINKLES. But seriously, a pretty cool band.

"Putting Missoula on the Map"

You may want to start your spring break early this year. Three Missoula bands will hit the road on March 25 for the upcoming Treefort Music Festival. Local acts BOYS, Wrinkles and Idaho Green are bringing a taste of Montana to the downtown Boise festival. Headliners include TV On the Radio, Josh Ritter, Built to Spill, Foxygen, Trampled by Turtles and more than 400 other bands.

The festival was founded to showcase Boise’s young, vibrant culture, and includes music, yoga, theatre, dance, art, film and even a “Hackfort” technology workshop. While the focus is on Boise’s emerging art scene, Missoula bands hope to bring Montana rock to the festival.

Kale Huseby, BOYS vocalist and guitarist, said he is looking forward to playing the festival with other Missoula bands.

“Montana bands are bringing proof that exciting, relevant things are happening in and around the state,” Huesby said.

Montana is not often thought of as an up-and-coming place for music.

“Idaho Green and Wrinkles are both super rad bands that are putting Montana on the map, lending legitimacy to our music scene,” Huseby said.

Thomas Elsen sings vocals and plays synth for Wrinkles. He said Stage 112's venue manager Shawna Lee told the band they should apply for the festival. Elsen said he’s excited to see bigger bands from Boise, like Built to Spill, and take in the diverse music scene.

“Treefort is a way to gather more local artists from the Northwest, and bring in some bigger musicians from all over to make for one bangin’ time in downtown Boise,” Elsen said.

Boise is a new venue for Wrinkles, who usually plays around Missoula, Bozeman and Seattle.

“I’m looking forward to playing our music to a new crowd in a festival setting. We've never played a festival before. I’m also excited to try and meet some of the artists I really respect,” Elsen said.

Tickets are $159.00 for the five-day general admission, with cheaper single day and special passes also available. Nick Hawksley, guitarist for BOYS, said Treefort is worth the trip for Missoulians.

“You can literally do anything with little to no lines, and small risk of venues reaching capacity. You will get to see your favorite band in a small, intimate club like you have always wanted. Why not start your spring break early and with an amazing festival in an amazing town?” - Montana Kaimin

Bio

Wrinkles is a five piece synth rock band birthed and bosomed in the glorious state of Montana. They employ multiple synthesizers and guitars to create a danceable, youthful rock sound. Wrinkles songs range from dark and ominous dream pop to upbeat rock and roll. Drawing influences from a wide range of artists such as The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Beach House, and The Beatles, Wrinkles builds a sonic foundation based on interlocking hooks and powerful melodies.

Wrinkles was formed in Helena, MT in 2012, but has since split time between Seattle and Missoula.  Identifying strongly with the Pacific Northwest music scene, Wrinkles works hard to circulate the northwest as much as possible.  Wrinkles has played Treefort Music Festival and has shared the stage with many touring acts including Porches, Twerps, Frankie Cosmos, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Mild High Club.

As a band that started in diy spaces and house shows, Wrinkles shows tend to be a little rowdy. With the occasional adult diaper show, Wrinkles enjoys making their shows memorable and interacting with the crowd. While Wrinkles has built most of their fan base from live shows in the Northwest, they are excited to release their long awaited debut full length this Spring.
