Within Four Days

The Naperville and Fox Valley area is ripe with young, musical talent as local bands and musicians are finding success.

Within Four Days was created by Waubonsie Valley graduates Devin Jackson, Jake Swineford, Alan Bringman, Bryan Gorecki and Patrick Misdom. Within Four Days plays at many local establishments, ranging from Naperville’s Veteran of Foreign Wars location to JT’s Porch in Lombard.

“Performing live is one of the best feelings that I’ve ever felt. I’ve always loved music, and having the ability to give music to others is beyond amazing,” said Bringman, the bands drummer.

Within Four Days was founded when Misdom and Jackson expanded their original acoustic duo into a full band. Upon finding members and rehearsing within four days of their debut, the group named their band after their unique experience. Four years later, Within Four Days is still going strong and released its first album, “Living For Today,” this past summer.

Naperville’s 2010 Battle of the Bands winner, Within Four Days, is on a roll toward the August 21 finals of the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association statewide competition at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Those who were able to see Within Four Days at Ribfest will not be surprised that this talented band has advanced through the regional competition. All of the members have studied instrumental and/or vocal music for 8 years or more, and with their musical versatility, they have what it takes to play a great show. They emerged as one of the top 2 bands at the July 30 regional competition at Homewood-Flossmor and will compete as one of 7 bands at the State Fair competition.

Band leader Devin Jackson said that the most exciting moment of the summer so far was playing on the Main Stage at Ribfest. “It’s always been a dream of mine to play at Ribfest, where the big name bands like REO and Lynrd Skynrd play. But guess what? We got to play there!”

The August 21 competition begins at 12:00 noon at the Shed at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, located at 801 Sangamon Avenue in Springfield. Some of the band’s friends are coming from as far as Florida to cheer them on, and a few of the band members themselves will be driving from colleges in the Midwest and Texas to compete this Saturday.

The Battle of the Bands competition is an annual activity sponsored by the Naperville Park District’s Youth Ambassadors, which gives bands from Naperville high schools an opportunity to perform for their friends and the chance to compete in the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association’s regional contest.

Naperville’s band, Within Four Days, lands second place at IL State Fair
Talented 6-member band outshines more than 130 contestants in Battle of the Bands

Naperville’s 2010 Battle of the Bands winner, Within Four Days, took second place in the August 21 finals of the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association statewide competition at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Now in its 8th year, the state Battle of the Bands contest involved over 130 bands from park districts across the state. “The competition was very tough this year,” said Within Four Days member, Devin Jackson, “but we enjoyed the challenge.”

The first-place winner was Results May Vary and the LMN Orchestra from Wheaton. They won 5 hours of studio time at BobDog Studios, and an acoustic guitar from Guitar Center, among other prizes. For second place Within Four Days won a free guitar and a $100 gift certificate from Guitar Center.

Within Four Days will be performing a free concert at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Sunday, August 29 at noon on the church grounds. For more information about the concert, please visit www.stapostle.org. St. Thomas is located at 1500 Brookdale Road in Naperville.
