North Carolinian Matt Carlson spearheads Wild Domestic with a strident, impassioned voice that connects with us instantly on the punked-fueled “Author,” where he’s firing on all cylinders on a song about the struggle to author one’s life story. We only wish his lead vocals were a bit more up in the mix. But there’s no denying that his voice is right for this genre, as in “Headlights” where he states his case with an appropriately high level of urgency. Carlson’s best effort, though, is the affecting ballad, “Overjoyed,” which shows the artist’s introspective side in a song of gratitude to a loyal friend. This is a singer who’s all-in all the time, and we love it, but we advise remixing to heat up the lead vocals. - BY MUSIC CONNECTION

On Jan. 20, Wild Domestic will release the new album Singular. Here, the alternative singer-songwriter turns in a solid effort and shows promise.
On Jan. 20, Wild Domestic will release their sophomore album Singular. The man behind this project is Paraguay-born musician Matt Carlson, an alternative singer-songwriter raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. There he learned to play a variety of instruments – from keys to bass. In 2015, Carlson released his debut self-titled record as Wild Domestic. This follow-up album is a strong effort and shows great promise for the artist.
Singular opens with “Left, Right.” This short track contains and interesting concept, but is lacking in final impact. It stops shy of being highly emotional or gritty. The result is a slight Disney musical feel about it. Though “Left, Right.” is not a very strong opening, Wild Domestic gets better from here.
“New Year, New Me” comes up second on this record. From the start, this tune is marked by accessible but engaging guitar work. Carlson’s vocals range from raw and strong to drained – both of which work here. Though not revolutionary, this alternative rock track is enjoyable and would fly on a variety of different playlists.
Wild Domestic hits their stride
Next up on Singular is the fast and ever so slightly punk-pop-tinged “Author.” Here, Carlson’s voice is wrung-out with piercing edges. Meanwhile, high-energy percussion and guitars pull listeners along. “Author” is a radio-ready highlight on this record.
There is something The Killers circa “Mr Brightside,” about the next song on this album. Entitled “Headlights,” there is an emo bend to the lyrics. Tumbling rhythms, a solid hook and sing-along-able chorus make it impossible not to listen.
Wild Domestic shines a light on the gentler side in the next three tracks. “Overjoyed” and “Firewall” fall a little short in presentation. However, “Firewall” in particular demonstrates Carlson’s ability to infuse his voice with palpable emotion. Audiences wonder if these two tracks might be more effective live. That being said, “Senses” overcomes any loss in translation – delivering a soft but strong and effective track.
With Singular, Wild Domestic turned in a strong effort. Though there were peaks and valleys in presentation, the high notes were radio-ready and attention grabbing. Listeners feel this artist has a lot of promise – and that this is not the last we will hear of Matt Carlson. - Celebrity Cafe

Do you remember indie/alternative rock band Wild Domestic, the brainchild of Matt Carlson? I wrote about them a couple of months ago, when they released Author, the first single off their new EP Singular.
Well, Singular is released today, January 20, and I'm happy to report that we already have a strong contender for the best EP of the year! All of the 8 tracks included in the mini-album are really worth your attention, as from the start to the end there is not a single bad song to be found.
Matt Carlson explains the inspiration for the EP: "Singular is an initial foray into a concept album. It is based on my conception of an emotional/literal car ride where the driver ends up picking belongings from an ex lover."
My favourite tracks on the EP are New Year, New Me, that reminds me of the rawer songs of Feeder; Overjoyed, an awesome Jimmy Eat World-influenced number; the dreamy, intense Firewall; the aforementioned Author, a track that I previously described as reminiscent to Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and a punk version of Counting Crows.
So, what are you waiting for? Stream the whole Singular EP on Spotify and buy it on iTunes.right now. - weChameleon

Charlotte, NC – Alternative rock band, Wild Domestic released their new EP, Singular, a collection of gripping rock anthems tied together with captivating vocals and honest lyrics. With the perfect balance of rock ballads and electrifying tracks, Singular encompasses the emotional rollercoaster that is a romantic relationship. The EP features alluring singles such as “Headlights” and “Author.” Singular is now available on iTunes and Spotify.
As each track plays, Singular paints a vivid picture for listeners. Each song is structured with brutally honest and relatable lyrics, paired with beautifully composed guitar riffs and solos. “Author,” the first single off Singular, kicks off the tone of the EP with a consistent heavy sound and in your face lyrics. The honesty heard in “Author” is bluntly expressed with lyrics like, “I’m sick of waiting for a turn that will never come, so I am numb and empty, strike a match and light me up.” Much like “Author,” “Headlights” expresses the same honesty and fearlessness. As the second single off Singular, the song is another intense rock anthem about the emotional journey caused by a failed relationship. Boldly, the band sings, “You know you’re not right, I hope the spotlight follows you everywhere, making sure you can’t hide,” followed by, “I’m over crying and begging and pointless fights that have no end in sight.” Front man for Wild Domestic, Matt Carlson, explains the inspiration for the EP, “Singular is an initial foray into a concept album. It is based on my conception of an emotional/literal car ride where the driver ends up picking belongings from an ex lover.” Produced by Mike Pepe at MDDN Studios in Los Angeles, Singular is a captivating EP that tells a story from beginning to end.
Originally from Paraguay, Matt Carlson knew from a young age that music was his true calling. Carlson moved to Charlotte, North Carolina as a baby where he later learned to play guitar, bass, drums and keys. Completely immersed in the arts, Carlson was an actor in numerous local plays and commercials. He continued with acting and music simultaneously. However, after being in three different local bands in Charlotte, he went solo and became Wild Domestic. Wild Domestic’s writing, production and performance are a reflection of Carlson’s personal views and voice. Carlson spent the last few years writing and performing his music locally and across the country. Carlson’s self-titled EP soon followed.
Singular is a captivating collection of songs that people can relate to on multiple levels. The EP encompasses all of the powerful emotions and thoughts that come after a relationship has failed with beautifully composed tracks. Download Singular on iTunes or stream it on Spotify. Indie/ alt-rock band, Wild Domestic is the brainchild of Matt Carlson. Born in Paraguay, Carlson moved to Charlotte, North Carolina when he was six months old, and it is where he resides to this day. Wild Domestic’s newest record, Singular, was released just last week on January 18th. The beauty of Singular is Carlson’s ability to bring ear shattering dynamics to rather beautiful territory. Whether it be sampled electronics or tangible instruments, Carlson has a knack of meshing alt-rock with pop in a razzle dazzle style. “New Year, New Me” and “Author” showcase the gigantic hooks that flow naturally from Wild Domestic. Yet, with the hooks come a breakneck pacing to keep the music heavy and urgent. With that being said, the opening and closing to Singular have their own soundscape that throw enough of a curveball to keep the music interesting and thematically intertwined.
