"2011's Best Local Albums"

(Excerpt from the review)
"The LoveBalletGirl EP is five tracks of smooth, colorful electronica, influenced largely by the works of Serge Gainsbourg. David Jacoby, a.k.a. WhiteCatPink, performs in every capacity on this album: drums, keyboards, synthesizers, and vocals, switching back and forth between English and French in his full, lush delivery. Using the classic electronica technique of repetition, Jacoby does manage a dazzling series of melodies, adding interesting touches to each. The album is without a weak point, frankly. If this excellent debut doesn't win WhiteCatPink a few close admirers, love surely is dead." - Erik Meyers - Scene Magazine, Fort Collins, CO

"Q&A: WhiteCatPink @ FOCOMX (April 20, 2013)"

What a crazy party. All of a sudden we, the audience, were surrounded by furries who were all dancing madly to the leader of the animal gang, David Jacoby, donned in a fuzzy cat outfit of his own and playing the drums, singing insanity into the microphone. I once again pushed my way to the front where I joined the dancing panda, mosquito, wolf, gorilla, and underage-ecstasy-kid in spasmodic “dancing.” I even got to try on some of the animal heads. Nobody in that room left unentertained. I’m still sore.
Q:

What are your thoughts on how your show went?
A:

That show was one of the best shows I’ve played in a long time. I played the Lyric Cinema for my CD release party and so I knew the sound was going to be awesome. The sound guy was super cool. And everything sounded wonderful and everyone seemed like they were having a really good time. A lot of people came up to me and were fucking blown away because they didn’t know what to expect. I was really pleased about that.
Q:

Yeah, that was one of the craziest shows I think I’ve ever been to.
A:

That’s awesome! The whole weekend was fun too. I had Russian Girl Kitty up with me for the weekend too, so that added a bonus. We went and saw some shows, but she wasn’t 21, so we couldn’t get into all the venues. But we saw Dead Floyd at The Aggie and Square Peg was unbelievable at Bizarre Bazaar. They are a jazz group, they are just unbelievable. We saw some cool stuff and hung out and people were tripping out on our costumes. We had sushi at Three Heroes. Cat’s gotta have sushi, right?!
Q:

Your project, you’re going to have to explain to me the inspiration for that. It’s such an interesting concept.
A:

I’m coming from a couple veins here. There’s a lot of European influence here. The first influence is the Krautrock Movement in Germany, or Kosmische musik as they like to call it. Big bands that influence me are: Neu! and Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk is really huge on my list.

And then of course Brian Eno is also huge on my list. Then you have the visual part of it, which is a blend of Ziggy Stardust, some of the stuff Eno was doing with Roxy Music, the whole androgynous character. And then also Peter Gabriel, in the early Genesis stage, 1972-73, was a really strange androgynous character, kind of a mysterious traveler type.

I’m tying in all the audio and visual stuff together into a kind of DJ Shadow, DJ Mark Farina, with some glitch and downtempo. If that all makes any sense.
Q:

Why do you choose to play drums live, as opposed to any other instrument that you’ve recorded for your sound?
A:

I’ve been a drummer for a long time now. It’s been, what? 23 years? When I started WhiteCatPink, I started off as the drummer and the vocalist and I actually had a full band with me. And I started getting really frustrated because a lot of musicians like to get stoned and drunk and I’m a straight edge. I don’t do drugs, I don’t drink, I don’t eat meat. I’m really hardcore about that. I play it straight all the time. And so I was getting really frustrated, because I have a specific sound in mind, a specific vision.

I think I just did it out of necessity too, because I was sick and tired of depending on other people. When you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself. I’m a multi-instrumentalist, so I was like, if there was a way I could split myself up into four of me, that’s how I do it. I started off as a drummer, and I still am, but now I have full control over the full project and the full vision and it’s really nice. - Band Wagon Magazine

"Street-Style: WhiteCatPink Sports a Purrfect Look"

Street-Style: WhiteCatPInk Sports a Purrfect Look
Mauricio Rocha | June 26, 2015 | 8:48am

Last weekend artists were out in force for the Westword Music Showcase and Denver Pridefest 2015, not to mention the A-OK's album-release party. Fort Collins-based electronic and French-pop artist WHITECATPINK, the music project of David Jacoby, played that gig and also showed off one of the most unusual looks we spotted on the streets. Keep reading to find out where Jacoby shops, what subcultures of art and fashion inspire his look, and what he's doing with WHITECATPINK.

We spotted WHITECATPINK on 16th and Tremont streets, out and about with his two dancers, Miranda Mesch and Allie Kit Cat. The trio share a love of fashion, art and cats. "Art has to come from a modern primitive area. It has to come from the soul," says Jacoby, whose favorite color is red. The three are all wearing boots, tall socks and short shorts; their bondage accessories — harnesses, collars and leashes — connect them to each other.
These silver-cap white boots are from local goth retailer Fashion Nation. Cats, bondage, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Roxy Music and underground UK magazines inspire WHITECATPINK's look. His S&M-inspired harness is from The Crypt and his necklace is from Home Depot.

Allie Kit Cat in a collar — Jacoby's favorite accessory, and one that can lead to "spiritual enlightenment," says Jacoby. "Music, art and fashion are ways that I try to seek spiritual enlightenment as well."

Always be enlightened by fashion and art, Denver - Westword

"WhiteCatPink: Behind the Mask"

WhiteCatPink: Behind The Mask
Anthony Cross - November 12, 2019

Anthony Cross:
Tell me about the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Dome show that’s coming up?

WhiteCatPink:
The show is going to be on the 15th of November starting at 7:30 pm. It’s going to be a two-hour show with an intermission. There are going to be 360-degree visuals going on while I’m playing, so it’s going to be pretty amazing.

AC:
So tell me about WhiteCatPink because you are an enigma. What what is white cat pink?

WhiteCatPink:
Well, it started in 2006 in Boulder I was— I was playing in an experimental Krautrock group. We did this show called woodland calling, where we converted our rehearsal space into an electronic environment and hung magnetic tape from the ceiling. We had an audience on one side of the space, and then we had dancers crawling around feeding people grapes. The idea was to come as an animal that best represented your character. So it was a no brainer when I went into the costume shop, and I found this mask I was like “Oh, that’s perfect” — I was into David Bowie at the time. Also, the stuff that Peter Gabriel was doing with early Genesis was really interesting to me. Brian Eno came in the picture later, but the main drive for me was Serge Gainsbourg, who was the biggest draw for me too.

AC:
You’ve garnered this following that is so wide-reaching and widespread. Do you consider anonymity an asset to you as a performer?

WhiteCatPink:
Yes, I consider it a big asset that most people don’t know my true identity outside of the costume; it’s more fun that way. It becomes more real for people when they see the Cat – they think, “Wow, this is actually a thing…” Wild, you know?

AC:
Tell me more about the synesthesia aspect of you performing.

WhiteCatPink:
Synesthesia manifests for me in that when I listen to music or smell fragrances – things such as that – I see colors. These colors correspond to different tones of the scale and will produce different shades depending on the key of the tones that I’m hearing. An example would be the WhiteCatPink song, Snow Bunny – the song itself is in the key of D and it has a markedly blue tinge to it with bits of pink. I deliberately used an adapted Tony Banks chord progression that came from a Genesis song called ‘Afterglow’. The idea I was striving for was to portray the ubiquitous and beautiful snow bunny girl that I’m always chasing after.

AC:
So you’re going to be playing music, and while you’re playing music in the dome surrounded by colors in 360, you also see colors — so you are fully immersed in a dome. Is it a lot?

WhiteCatPink:
It’s amazing. It’s living on a whole different wavelength, I suppose is the best way to put it. Yeah, it’s really cool.

AC:
So after the dome yet what else you have on the docket?

WhiteCatPink:
I’ve got a house show coming up in Laramie in December. And then in January, I’m going to be playing at Pinball Jones. Also In February, I have a show coming up in Surfside 7. I’ve also been in contact with some people from the Fox Theater and the Aggie Theatre to look at doing some opening slots there. - Salt Magazine

Bio

Electronic Glam meets Krautrock, Bowie meets awesome. This is WhiteCatPink, musician extraordinaire.  WhiteCatPink was sent to this planet by the Great I AM Supercomputer XIX to help spread a message of truth, simplicity and love in a world riddled with greed, war and insanity.   Drawing inspiration from a rich blend of the iconic French superstar, Serge Gainsbourg, the decidedly Teutonic sounds of NEU!, Kraftwerk, and Einstürzende Neubauten, the downtempo sounds of Mark Farina, and the rich harmonic structures of 70's English Progressive Rock, WhiteCatPink takes these into a suite of lush electronics informed in part by pioneer ambient musician, Brian Eno.  Combine this with a visual spectacle that is one part animal-object, one part Glam rock, and a bit of edge, and the result is an unforgettable performance.  WhiteCatPink plays live drums and sings over original compositions and music written digitally in Ableton Live.  With subjects ranging from catfights to his famous teddy bear, Paisley, to flowers from outer space, the milieu remains fresh and unusual.  His most recent offering, ‘The LoveBalletGirl EP‘, sees WhiteCatPink in top chic form with vocals sung in both English and French over a smooth, glossy blend of electronic music and hard-hitting drums.  A one-man act, WhiteCatPink consistently stuns audiences all over the world with his command of the stage and memorable presence.  WhiteCatPink proudly plays DW Drums, Paiste Cymbals, M-Audio midi equipment, and Ableton Live DAW.
