The best kept secret in music

"Up-and-comer Wes Ryan orders another round on "One More"."

While Connecticut hasn't traditionally been a hotbed for hip-hop music (with the exception of underground legend Apathy), recently things have been looking up. With Chris Webby's debut album coming soon, and artists like Jigz The Flyer, Dom McLennon and Jitta On The Track making legitimate noise in the industry, things are certainly improving. You can add another name to that list, as Wes Ryan continues to put out strong music, including today's release "One More".

The 20-year-old and his Greater Company team are making waves and stirring up a buzz with their melodic sounds and witty wordplay. Besides producing some of his own music, Ryan has also worked with Visionary Music Group producer 6ix, and traveled across the country playing shows and building his fan base from the ground up.

Connecticut artist and Greater Company front man Wes Ryan, lets go his highly anticipated mixtape “New Gold”! This 13 track project lets you into Ryan’s mind, his up bringing, his past and present endeavors. With some production from Wes Ryan himself and VMG’s own, 6ix. Scratch work by Shade 45’s DJ KG. Along with features from Maryland spitter Phil Ade and Greater Company artist Bklyn. “New Gold” is filled with a flavor for everyone!

Through out these 12 songs and 1 skit, Wes Ryan displays not only great word play, flow, and a strong track presence but if you listen there’s a story behind each song. There’s a story behind Wes Ryan in general. After 2 solid listens of New Gold I started to pick up on things. If you pay attention you pick up on many struggles that Wes has been through. Frankly, It’s made him the artist/person he is if you ask me. Track #1 “April 15th” is a story about how Ryan’s life changed completely. Track #13 “Shots In The Dark” wraps up the whole tape. On this song you hear about different family members, a past love, a record deal that Wes turned down, he also touches base with the outcome of the story told on “April 15th”.

“Wes Ryan Or Die Tryin” is something you’ll pick up on quick. It’s more than just a “Taylor Gang Or Die”. Throughout the tape you’ll hear him talk about how he almost lost his life. With such an experience, It becomes apparent the more you listen that music is all Wes Ryan has now. I feel the “Die Tryin” aspect is to show this is what he DOES and if he doesn’t make it he will die tryin. That brings us to the big feature of “New Gold”. Track #5 “Die Tryin” Featuring Phil Ade. For those who don’t know Phil Ade (Click his name to jump to his twitter) he is a artist from Maryland. He’s worked with the likes of Mac Miller and King Los to flex a bit. This record brings life to the “Die Tryin” saying and meaning a bit more. Some might think the saying and meaning of “Die Tryin” doesn’t fit the sound of the song “Die Tryin”. I think the track is more up beat to get it stuck in your head. That hook is addicting. The verses don’t lack substance one bit either. I think that’s something not a lot artists do with the more “mainstream” sounding records they make. Overall Wes Ryan’s “New Gold” is a great listen. It’s a very full project. I’m still picking up on bars I missed and I’ve been listening to it since it dropped on 4/15/14.

"Wes Ryan - ISFY (Prod. By Wes Ryan)"

Wes Ryan, an up and coming Emcee from CT, is set to drop his Lighters Ep the 30th of september. ISFY is one of the singles off of the tape, and is a seriously dope track. Wes is both a producer and a rapper which is becoming rarer and rarer these days, and he really does a great job with every part of the track. - N.U.M.B.

Still working on that hot first release.

While Connecticut hasn't traditionally been a hotbed for hip-hop music (with the exception of underground legend Apathy), Wes Ryan (21) has what it takes to change that. With his movement "Greater Company" expanding and a real music making ability, Wes can hit you from many angles. Being from the East Coast you can hear a lot of NY influence in his sound. From his go to word play surrounded by break kits and vinyl sampling. To 808s and vocal melodies. As well as a Producer/Engineer combo on top of it all. Wes took to Hip-Hop young. His interest stuck due to disapproval from his parents. After family issues arose during his sophomore year of High School, he was forced to leave home. He began working in and out of studios to stay afloat. He then created his first serious project "New Gold". Working with the likes of Maryland spitter Phil Ade and Logic's go to producer 6ix. In addition to production and engineering; Ryan has his hand in videography and clothing design all under his "Greater Company" brand. Greater Company was created by Wes Ryan in May of 2012. Home to himself and one other CT artist as of December 2014, "Bklyn". Together, along with a handful of role players, they have traveled the U.S. building their buzz from the ground up. With Ryan's presence on blogs and local radio stations growing, soon it will be impossible to not have heard of him and his "Greater Company" camp.
