"Feeling the Pain"

"While we were quick to crown Vudu Sister as a stellar "indie-folk" band the first time around, McCurdy has made it abundantly clear that Household Items is a full-blown garage rock album."

"Vudu Sister – Household Items"

"Brewed with a bit of Crazy Horse, a dash of Nirvana, a pinch of Scott Weiland and throw in a bit of those experimental early 90s bands for good measure. This is a record ("Household Items") that will sound completely familiar to you upon first listen, and with each spin you will become further and further away from that initial response."

Bio

Vudu Sister is a dark folk ensemble from Providence, Rhode Island. The Sister is fronted by Keith J.G McCurdy, an American singer/songwriter with French, Sicilian, and Romanichal roots. The music takes influences from early 90s grunge, alternative rock, Romani music, European folk, as well as gothic rock and Romantic-era classical music. Literary influences range from the high fantasy works of J.R.R. Tolkien, the weird fiction of H.P Lovecraft, and the poetry and myths of classical antiquity and medieval Europe.

In 2012, Vudu Sister released their debut "Bastard Children”, a dark, noir, gothic folk album featuring a cadre of guest musicians. In 2013, they released a grunge-influenced rock album, "Household Items", featuring frequent collaborator Alexander Garzone of Divey who co-wrote songs such as “Revival” and “Loverboy” and co-produced the album. In 2016, The Sister released "Mortis Nervosa”, inspired by folklore, fairy tales, and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” by Alvin Schwarz. Amato Zinno and Diane O'Connor provided the instrumentation. The fourth and most recent release, “Burnt Offerings”, is a collection of original compositions written entirely in Latin and Ancient Greek, released on June 21, 2021. They have opened for artists such as Marissa Nadler (Sacred Bones/Bella Union) and Rasputina (Filthy Bonnet/Columbia), as well as performing at the Newport Folk Festival.
