Bio
When Veronica’s family migrated from Ecuador when she was barely 6 weeks old, it did not occur to her family that one day she would be able to sing Cumbias, Rancheras, Baladas and Valses. Veronica’s parents, music lovers themselves, had taught their daughter how to sing early on and by the age of seven, Veronica was already on stage performing. School talent shows only heightened the passion Veronica felt when she performed and from that point on she performed whenever the opportunity presented itself. Veronica began performing at birthday parties, quinceaneras, engagement and wedding receptions. Inspired by a wide range of artists like the late, great Selena, La Lupe, Rocio Durcal, and Linda Ronstadt and compared by many to Jenni Rivera, Veronica takes great pride in singing their songs.
Previously a publicist for 13 years known as V-Ronica in the rap music industry, she has worked with Lady Grace from MTV, the Legendary Godfather of Rap, Spoonie Gee, the Legendary Mr.Cheeks of the Lost Boyz, as well as Fernando from Rosa and Skulls and many more, including some media sources. Veronica suffered a major health scare in 2012 after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer and the initial prognosis was not positive. Veronica was informed that the surgical procedure she needed to undergo would involve cutting her vocal chords and there was no guarantee that she would be able to sing again. Needless to say, Veronica was devastated! Not only did she have to deal with her illness and the threat it posed to her very existence, but she had to also endure the potential of not being able to do what she loved the most, which was to sing. Singing is Veronica’s passion in life and having that ability taken away from her felt like a death sentence in and of itself. However, Veronica remained optimistic and knew she would pull through this ordeal. It was then that Veronica vowed to herself to never give up and if given another chance she would fight with all her will to not only recover, but to also be happy, strong and most importantly, to sing once again. After undergoing the surgery, Veronica began training herself with full determination to recuperate and recover her “singing voice”. It was then that Veronica said to herself “life is too short” and decided to reestablish herself in the music industry as a singer. As a young adult she shared the stage with various artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Coco Velez and Anita Lucia Proano, just to name a few. Going by the stage name “La Vero”, the music she sings is filled with emotion such as passion, pain, resentment and strength. Veronica is also easily able to captivate her audiences by interacting and including them in her performances.
Being a proud Brooklyn native where her tenacity, competitiveness and resilience were bred, Veronica aspires to take the industry by storm with her many upcoming projects. Her singing career is not only a tribute to her parents and the various artists that influenced the fervent adoration she has for music, but also in memoriam of very important people that unconditionally believed in and supported Veronica, her guardian angels: Melvin Smith, known as Bay, Johnathan Q, known as Kider, Nena Brooklyn, Jay Jay, Chubby, and Richard.
