New Album Review
Voices very own, Alex Busutil (@lexxxplicit_) has done a track by track review of our Hometown Hero, Vash Da Stampede’s latest MixTape entitled, Bars N Beats Volume. 1: The Genesis (2013)

1. “BBV Intro” isn’t your ideal tone-setting first track. The beat is a bit annoying, even for a minute long intro.
2. “Mountain High” grew on me after the 2nd listen. Stampede displays a relentless flow over the beat.
3. “F Zero” is hands down the stand out track. A clever sample from the F Zero video game. More importantly, each rapper shined.
4. “Ain’t Stoppin” is a song I have mixed feelings towards. While the beat isn’t necessarily bad, it does tend to get very repetitive.
5. “I Don’t Sleep” might have the best hook on this mixtape. Jaeson Green steals the song.
6. “Same Shit Different Day” is a good effort from Vash, however C-Boss’s verse did the song no justice.
7. “The Drought is Over” has a beat I could hear J.Cole just tear to shreds, for the record. With that said, Vash shows his potential with a flow that ultimately trumps the beat.
8. “Ball” is your typical southern rap anthem. Some may enjoy it, however I didn’t. Not to mention, the hook can be cliche with lines referring to ballin’ like “Kobe in the 4th quarter”.
9. “Dope Shit” is exactly that; Dope Shit, indeed. Nice change of pace from the hard hitting beats that are presented earlier in the mixtape.
10. “Ghetto Dreams” is not bad,
however feels forced and unnecessary for this mixtape. I would have went with another original beat rather than a well-known beat.
11. “Work of Art” is your typical song that caters to the ladies. This song is just kinda there. Skip.
12. “Inner City Dreams” is another song where Jaeson Green out shines everyone on the track with rhymes that may hit some listeners close to home.
13. “Skybourne” is decent. Even though “Roxxane” by The Police has been sampled before (“What Means The World To Me”-Cam’ron), Vash’s flow remains impressive.
14. “He Murder Tracks” didn’t really do anything for me. I felt the hook lacked creativity, and was a disappointing ending to a mixtape that was solid for the most part.
Best Track(s): “F Zero”, “I Don’t Sleep”, Inner City Dreams”
Worst Track(s): tie between “Ball” and “Work of Art”, with “Same Shit Different Day” following.
Best Beat: “F Zero”
Worst Beat: “Work of Art”
Final Verdict: Overall, this was a solid effort from Vash Da Stampede. Although he has potential, he tends to get cliche. At times, his metaphors can be tiring and predictable. Still, plenty of strong beats that get the head nodding, and a crisp flow that compliments them well. There’s always room for improvement, yet honing his craft patiently over time will only benefit the Texas native.
