UNDERGROUND DREAM & PRODUCERS TO HOST Q&A AFTER BEYOND THE BOMBS SCREENING AT NEW HOPE FILM FESTIVAL
The music documentary “Beyond the Bombs”, an official selection of this year’s New Hope Film Festival will hold its Pennsylvania premiere on July 27th at 7:00PM at the New Hope Arts Center. Band members Behzad Khakbaz, Mohammad Kazemi and music producer Paul Lewis will hold a Q&A after the screening along with the film’s producers. All ticket holders will also receive a free Underground Dream CD that was created during the making of the film.
The film follows three Iranian musicians from hiding underground performing in Tehran to Los Angeles as they pursue their dream of performing despite their country’s ban on metal music. “We are looking forward to the Pennsylvania premiere of our film at NHFF, the festival’s attention to cutting edge subjects and new filmmakers made it a perfect forum for us to be able to connect with an audience and give the band and producer a chance to discuss the journey. The fact that the musicians risked their lives to pursue freedom and their dream of performing metal music ended up landing them here just goes to show that anything is possible if you believe enough in it.” states Michel Grey, one of the film’s producers.
Beyond the Bombs is directed by Los Angeles director Robert Kraetsch and stars the band Underground Dream along with songwriter/music producer Paul Lewis and includes cameos from LA musicians including Duff McKagen from Guns & Roses. “Music can break through borders.” says lead singer/songwriter Behzad Khakbaz. The documentary was filmed in both Tehran, Iran and Los Angeles, CA beginning in 2012 during US sanction on Iran. Music producer Paul Lewis stated, “You can feel their souls in the music, I think it connects with people because there are all of these emotions right on the surface. All of the years of holding back came pouring out into the music and you see, feel and hear that in the film.”
