After 21 opening acts, many of which brought the fire, the WNRN Dead Air 2 freak show went into high gear when ToNY CaMM & The FUNK Allstars took the stage with their high-octane psychedelic circus and musical carnival troupe of jazz rock funk warriors.
Led by the inimitable Tony Camm and his gorgeous soulful butterfly wife Jacqui Camm the action spread all over the stage and the entire Academy Center of the Arts started dancing as dozens of deadheads and funk monsters thronged the front of the stage. Chris Schmitt, the co-brains behind the Funk The Dead project, handled vocals and keytar while Trev Hicks and Justin Berkley, in between blowing their mighty saxes, showered the crowd with hundreds of multicolored Mardi Gras beads.
In the background James W. Young and Ashley Sutton kept a steady stream of fiery guitar pyrotechnics lighting up the venue while William Scott added background vocals and, I think, Pierce Ya Heart Davis, performed his unique brand of whirling dervish dancing. Lonnie Daye Jr. tied everything together with his steady drumbeat and Patrick Street keep the groove on bass as they performed 'Franklin's Tower'. - Lee New
