I was once told that Grunge was put down in the mid 90s with Kurt Cobain. There were so many of those wonderful foggy songs with a heavy gloom in the lyrics. I respectfully disagree as I’ve often heard bits and pieces of that all too familiar sound in many songs lately. This is the case with Them Fixes debut song “Fangs.”
Band members, Dustin Rye (guitar, vox and lyrics) and Shawn Jones (drums and percussion), come to us with a hard rock bluesy feel topped with the dirty sound of grunge.
“Fangs” has angsty blues like lyrics with fuzzy guitar and steady drum beats. This song borders modern grunge in a way that most bands probably haven’t thought of yet.
If this is a sign for times to come I am gladly jumping into that heart shaped box (see what I did there). Honestly, I’m very excited to see what the rest of their upcoming EP will sound like. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of grunge rock I think it’s the best gateway there. Long live grunge! - Mindy Stevenson - Boston Rock Radio
