""Keep Control" Album Review"

Hailing from the wilds of Clancy, Montana, the band formerly known as Goodnight Sunrise released two EP’s as well as toured all across the country in the grand DIY tradition. About a year go, the collective decided to relocate to the Los Angeles, the music and entertainment capital of the world, and shortened their moniker to just The Goodnight. Unsigned here in the States (but with a deal through Twilight Records in Japan), The Goodnight has now released the dynamic Keep Control, a 7 song EP that is surely their most fully realized effort to date. Featuring wondrously crafted pop rock songs that will remain in your head for ages, The Goodnight is destined to finally hit up the big leagues in a big and glorious way with this sweet treasure trove of tunes. Fans of such entities of Mayday Parade and The Maine should approach The Goodnight without hesitation, and prepare to say top of the morning to your next longtime favorite band.

The pop rocking reveries kicks off immediately with Silence, a track about enduring the hard times of a relationship going wrong. “You’re too much to take, we should separate” is the chorus conveys with a thoughtful resignation. The Love Left In You then embraces the listener with its warm melodies and spiraling choruses – a heartfelt song that should be played all over the radio airwaves. “Your heart makes music, I can hear it,” the grand chorus commences with its unforgettable sentiments.

Medicine is another fantastic track that will only serve to further your addiction to this terrific band. Fate is rousing and infectious with its sweeping vocals and swirling guitars. Apart is vibrant and wistful, and definitely one of the most inspiring moments on the EP.

Hands And Knees is a standout, an emotional track that really that leaves quite an impact. And then closing out Keep Control is the devastating Lebanon, a powerful composition showing The Goodnight at the very height of their creative prowess.

Front man Dan Murphy is the classic melodic rock vocalist and guitarist, delivering the heartfelt lyrics with a sense of passion and conviction. Justin Benner also unleashes some mighty fine guitar work; the dueling axes a pure sonic delight. The tiptop rhythm section is courtesy of Sam Smetana on bass and ex-Say No More member Tim Spier on drums. Keep Control is collection of songs not to be missed by anyone who enjoys the uplifting sounds of pure pop rock and roll perfection. Highly recommended! - Highwire Daze

"AMP Magazine Unsigned Band Spotlight"

What's What: Formed in late 2006, GOODNIGHT SUNRISE, has accomplished quite a bit for such a fairly new group. From a slot on the Van's Warped Tour to nearly a dozen big time tours under their belts these guys are going places fast. Which is no surprise, this band is just as personable as they are talented, making it that much easier to fall in love with them. This four-piece of former high school pals is seriously impressive with their multi-faceted, super poppy and yet polished sound. Vocalist Dan Murphy further characterizes his sound as follows. "I like to describe our sound as 'riff-pop.' We focus on catchy melodies and songs, but we try to keep the guitars as interesting as possible. Guitar parts can get stuck in your head just as easily as a line about falling in love."

"Spokane Music Review"

All too often, a guitarist in a pop-punk band can be peripheral - with the genre's frequently emphatic singers, is often lost in the mix, unfairly downplayed. Not so with GOODNIGHT SUNRISE, out of Helena. Though accentuated by impassioned vocal delivery, the guitar is never out of the central focus. Riffs are catchy and intricate, backed by a tight, finely tuned band. They're a fine example of how this kind of band should work. Bring paper. Take notes.

GOODNIGHT SUNRISE
“Close and Counting EP”

One of the greatest things about the digital age of music is that a lot of bands that we all know and love might have never been as easily accessible to us as they are now. A great example of this is Goodnight Sunrise. They are entirely DIY at this juncture of their career and they wouldn’t have it any other way. Entirely self-produced and independently released, “Close and Counting EP” has sold over 5,000 copies since its June 2007 release, which is absolutely incredible for a label-less band. The highlight of “Close and Counting” is the abundance of super catchy, sparkling clean vocals. The lyrical quality is truly great as well. They maintain to stay poppy as well as keep their innate passion and love for music. The band has it just right. They mix a picture perfect pop sound with great hooks and catchy guitar riffs. There isn’t much more you can ask for from a band. Goodnight Sunrise will continue promoting their sing-a-long pop punk masterpiece with more exciting live shows and extensive tour schedule through the rest of the year. Look out for these guys. They are only just beginning! (C.L.) (www.myspace.com/goodnightsunrise)

Bio

In the isolated town of Clancy, Montana, singer/guitarist Dan Murphy and guitarist Justin Benner met in the third grade, and then spent their formative years writing and recording music together.  During the next decade, Murphy and Benner played over 400 shows across the States, released a record in Japan, and built a loyal following before making their exodus to Los Angeles in 2010.  While Benner refined his skills as the band’s engineer and producer, they began playing with drummer Tim Spier in August of 2010, who they had met while touring with his former Drive-Thru Records band, Say No More.  Together, they wrote the honest and melodic songs that would become The Goodnight’s debut EP “Keep Control.”  While touring California, the band met their future bassist, Miles Franco, who relocated from San Jose to join the band in March of 2013.

The Goodnight toured the Western United States in November 2014 to support the release of their new record titled “Owlbum.”  The band continues to build their local Southern California following, while touring regionally and showcasing at festivals such as South By South West in Texas.

GoPro featured The Goodnight’s “Back To Life” music video as their Video Of The Day on 11/9/14.  Major television networks such as E!, MTV, A&E, Lifetime, TLC, and VH1 have used the band’s music, as well as Playstation, who featured the track “The Greatest Place” in their 2014 PS4 commercial campaign.  Songs “Back To Life,” “In The Moment,” and “Hands & Knees,” have received airplay from 50+ mainstream and college radio stations across the country.

The Goodnight continues giving their listeners honest, infectious indie rock gems.  “Owlbum’s” broad spectrum of guitars, grooves, and melodies will quickly become a feel-good favorite for music lovers of all ages.
