Bio
Brian Otto Kimmel (BOK) is a classically trained pianist, singer, and songwriter. Out in Boulder, Colorado. Born and raised in Seattle. He began performing throughout Washington State in the early nineties. From Kate Bush to Thich Nhat Hanh, his influences include a vast lineage of piano-positive female artists and Buddhist-leaning activist writers. Known by longtime fans for his "flamboyant charm" and "naked honesty." BOK straddles two worlds musically. Classically-inspired, Indie Artisan Folk and Soulful Adult Contemporary. "Emotionally stirring." "Magical." "Spellbinding." Are some ways Audiences describe he and his art. Speaking to the range and charisma of his live performance and musical style. "BOK's music is a soothing balm." "[BOK's voice] is witchy like Kate Bush's in the Hounds of Love." Headlining Seattle Pride in 2003, he has been inspired and inspires LGBTQI causes including gay marriage and anti-bullying in schools. And advocates for adult survivors of child sexual abuse and incest. Supported by benefactors like the YMCA and the Association of School Principals, he continues today as a solo independent band funded by fans.
Finding the he(art) of art through building relationships. Music is BOK's way of bringing people together. Through Love. Power. Belonging. BOK sings with urgency, with depth and honesty about a shared human experience. His newest release promoted through a Five City/State Tour, "Songs of Secrets Told" (2013), debuted with his number one international single, "Gay Marriage Song (Every Love)". And with an escalating 23,000 hits on YouTube, "Goodbye, Farewell (The Original Funeral Song)" is set to release in November on his newly recorded, pseudo-live LP "Guardians of Truth."
More About BOK
He first took to the stage at age six performing in school choirs, musicals, and piano recitals. His mission then: "To heal the world with music," sparked the attention of local organizations and benefactors, who by the time he was twelve years old, began to hire and promote his artistic talents and ability to make music that made a positive impact.
