Hold on to your hearts ladies……up next was THE Band of the IPO this year. Dressed in white tux jackets, white shirts and black trousers and bow ties, The Dreamboats, a four piece of drop dead gorgeous (Minty’s words!!!) guys, all the way from Mississauga, a suburb of Ontario, Canada won the hearts of everyone at the IPO. Visually they were fantastic. All had a magnificent stage presence and the guitarists and bass player rocked, danced back to back, doing a bit formation dancing and just generally really enjoying being on stage. The drummer was pretty fantastic too. This is how rock and roll should be, as they blasted their way through a set of original material, clearly influenced by the pre 1964 rock and roll era, with just a couple of covers thrown in. They just ripped the whole place up - their energy and level of fun was off the scale. The crowd reaction was phenomenal - we have not seen anything like it, the girls were screaming so loud!!! - Minty & The Beeb Music Blog (UK)
Day number 5……and we were up early so that we did not miss the second appearance from the band everyone was still talking about – The Dreamboats. Saturday lunchtime in the Cavern Club usually has a transient crowd. The tourists wander in, take a few snaps and then move on. That didn’t happen today. With The Dreamboats totally in charge of the front Stage, everyone who walked in stopped and stayed. We have never seen the Cavern so full (and hot) on a Saturday lunchtime. The foursome from Canada were on top form again. They sounded great, their stage moves were timed to perfection and they totally ripped up the rule book and gave us raw, rock and roll with a 21st Century feel to it. The energy they have is fantastic and the audience absorbed every piece of it. This a band that will be remembered for a long time to come, for all the right reasons. - Minty & The Beeb Music Blog (UK)
[...] I’ve said this before, but I think the mark of a great group is when it looks like the band is having more fun on stage than the crowd is in the audience. I would say this about the Dreamboats’ performance last night, but that was not the case. No matter how much fun the band was having, the audience was having more. It was truly the best stage presence I have seen in a very long time. It was the kind of performance that made you want to kick off your shoes and get loose. It’s hard to say which part of the show was better: the synchronized dance moves of the bands, or the line of ladies who looked like they came straight from a 50′s hair salon, bopping and twisting all across the dance floor. - OPJAM
MISSISSAUGA — The young men of Mississauga band The Dreamboats are bringing the golden era of rock and roll back for contemporary audiences.
The band – Chris Hummel on vocals and guitar, Bryan Fligg on vocals and bass, Matthew Bestvater-Tennison on lead guitar and Gianmarco Fiacconi on drums and backing vocals – has always had a passion for playing the music of the 1950s and ‘60s. However, they’ve found that, since they formed the band, audiences are loving their sound as well.
Last fall, the foursome released a two-song EP featuring a pair of original songs – Love Control and Don’t Go Home. Both tracks can be heard by visiting the band’s website www.thedreamboatsband.com.
Armed with the new EP, the band is heading out on a European tour this May. It kicks off May 15 with a performance at the world-famous Cavern Club in Liverpool, England (launching pad of The Beatles) as part of the International Pop Overthrow Festival and the tour will see the band playing a number of shows throughout the month in England, Germany and The Netherlands.
The band’s live shows are a mix of original songs with a retro rock and roll flair along with classic songs tunes from before 1965. In March, the band had a series of shows at Handlebar in Toronto’s Kensington Market neighbourhood. - The Mississauga News
Sunday was the highlight for me, as the stage was set for the British Invasion series. My current musical obsession, Mississauga’s own The Dreamboats, serenaded the concert goers back to a time when musicians donned fancy suits, and the dance floor was swingin’. The Dreamboats served up a crowd-pleasing mix of 1950's and 60's rock n’ roll classics a la Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry, while peppering in originals, which sounded as if plucked directly from that era. Their fancy synchronized footwork and coordinated guitar moves transcended time - the waterfront park and all those enjoying the show re-lived the jukebox golden days for a magical hour-long set. Thankfully, that one hour is not all The Dreamboats have in store this summer, as this Sunday (July 3rd), they are set to invite us to time travel once more at a free outdoor show in Port Credit. Do ensure you cap off your Canada Day weekend by showing this musical class act some hometown love. The Dreamboats are bringing back good ol’ fashioned Rock n’ Roll! With a sound that is equal parts Chuck Berry & The Wonders, this quartet of handsome young Mississauga boys delivers a high energy, nostalgic show that has audiences dancing and singing the night away—Good Golly!!
What brings these four youngsters together to play music that was much before their time? A true passion for an era when ice cream cost a quarter, milk was delivered to the door, and people danced to live music! The Dreamboats capture this era at live shows through their angelic harmonies, rockin’ guitars, matching uniforms, and contagious dance steps!
After coming home from an 14-show European Tour in May 2017, The Dreamboats are making sure that the PUNCH IS SPIKED and the DANCE FLOOR IS HOPPING!
