Andy Butler - New Test Sounds
My first exposure to Andy Butler was a tune called “Hamilton Head” that knocked my fucking socks off and I haven’t recovered since! Repeated exposure to this tune helped, but I just couldn’t get this Thunders like riff rock/power-pop anthem out of my noggin. All of the right elements are there, loud hook laden guitars, catchy sing along choruses and a driving beat. Not only can you dance to it, but you can thrust your fists in the air in rhythm! The song is the story of the legendary Canadian band, Teenage Head (from Hamilton, hence the title) who helped bring rock and roll back to the radio in the late 70’s.
And the rest of this CD? More of the same high energy power pop that’ll grab your ears and won’t let go. Just think of the ideal mixture of bands like The Diodes, Rich Kids, Raspberries, Syl Sylvain, MC5 (Back In The USA era) and even the Beatles and you’ll get the picture! And live, these guys (now called Andy Butler and the 905’s) are just a killing rock and roll machine!

The 905s - Break Out
The cd captures the vibe of all that pre-digital age maximum RnR fervour!
SOOOOOO many great hooks n' classic idiom moments, the little stops n' vocal stab jokes are aaaawesome!!! I f*cking love the album!!
I feel like it's like sitting at CBGB's watching The Kinks jam with the earlymid Who and Stiv Bators and Frankie Venom jumpin around all over the place... but, heavy!! The engineering is nice and believable too!!!
