On Tuesday night the Nashville Palace will host a screening of the award-winning documentary “Alive Inside.”
The 2014 film, directed by Michael Rossato-Bennett, examines the positive effects music can have those who are suffering from Alzheimer's disease and dementia. “Alive Inside,” which follows social worker Dan Cohen as he works to bring music to Alzheimer's patients, also features neurologist Oliver Sacks, author of “Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain,” who died earlier this year.
Singer-songwriter Taylor Loren will perform before the film begins at 7 p.m. The event is a benefit for the Alive Inside Foundation, which works to bring music to the elderly and to connect students with seniors in their communities. - The Tennessean

She released her debut EP Dreamin’ towards the end of last year. Recorded in Nashville with session musicians more used to playing with Randy Travis and Willie Nelson, Dreamin’ showcases her talent for story telling, pop hooks and guitar driven country energy.
‘Wanted’ opens the EP in sun drenched country style, cue harmonica. Apparently there is a price on her head for stealing a man, it’s a playful twist on the Western wanted poster and you’ll find yourself hanging on her every word.

Most country songs revolve around bars, women, beer and trucks.
Delray Beach singer and songwriter Taylor Loren wanted to take a more personal approach with her country music. So she produced a video for her song "Her Soul,'' which is about her Boca Raton grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
The video, shot in Greynolds Park in North Miami Beach and at the Sabal Palm Bed & Breakfast in Lake Worth this summer, features the 23-year-old singer recounting what it's like to have a loved one with the condition. Loren's grandmother, Lois Paulk, 82, was diagnosed in 2010 with the neurological disorder that affects memory loss.
"I want to raise awareness and show people what it's like to go through this as a young person,'' said Loren, whose real name is Taylor Lanigan. She recorded the song at Nashville's Beaird Music Group recording studios as part of her debut EP album "Dreamin'.''
"We always see what is happening with the individual who was diagnosed but it affects their children and grandchildren. I am trying to show that through my eyes," said Loren, who remembers the early signs of the disease on her grandmother. She began confusing the TV remote control for the telephone and forgetting why she walked into a certain room of her home.
The video shows Loren strolling in the wooded park and remembering some of the things she enjoyed doing with her grandmother, such as playing with paper dolls and wearing hand-sewn clothes her grandmother created. (A neighbor of Loren's plays the role of the grandmother.)
The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has a loved one or friend with the condition, which is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. More than 500,000 Floridians have the disease.
"Seems like only yesterday, back before you went away,'' the song opens.
"It crept on you and stole you away, one moment at a time and day by day,'' another lyric states.
"It was a closure for me to write the song for her and her memory,'' added Loren, who began playing the guitar at the age of 10 and describes her sound as a cross between country and folk music.
Since its release this summer, the video has amassed more than 25,000 views on YouTube.
Loren, who graduated from Florida Atlantic University last May with an English degree, plans to continue writing songs she hopes will resonate with listeners.
"I want to be an artist who is authentic and real, to write authentic material that will connect with people," she said.
She has attended songwriting workshops in Nashville where she wants to continue working with producers and other aspiring musicians.
Larry Beaird, who owns the Beaird Music Group recording studios in Nashville, worked with Loren on "Her Soul."

I first got to know Taylor Loren as we were preparing to launch Heart Beings last year. She was inspired by our dreams and passions and wrote the powerful song “Dreamin‘” about a woman following her heart.
Her latest song, “Her Soul,” aims to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s, a debilitating disease that robs the memory. In it, she delivers another hit performance. Avoiding the usual country music songs about Daisy Dukes, pickup trucks, and Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, Delray Beach cutie Taylor Loren has more of an edge.
"My music is country with a little bit of outlaw Western style with a little bit of folk because I play acoustic guitar," the 22-year-old gushes.
And gush is the perfect verb to describe Loren. Upon talking to her, you can hear her smile and the excitement in her voice. The best part is, you can't help but smile back. It's damned contagious. So imagine our surprise when Loren, all smiles and bubbles, described the premise for her song "Wanted" as "two girls killing another girl because there is a price out for her -- she stole their man."
Wait, what? But then again, that's part of the Western country feel. Picture old country "wanted" posters with gunslingers, tumbleweeds, rattlesnakes, saloons, and John Wayne music, as Loren describes. With Loren's music, she is "bringing old country back with a new twist."
"A lot of people say I have an old soul," says Loren. "I love old country. I love the country out today, but I love old country like Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Johnny Cash. The new country doesn't have soul or as much meaning, and I want to bring that back to country today."
So which country singer does she lean toward today? "My all-time favorite is Miranda Lambert -- [she's my] all-time favorite and my all-time favorite forever. My favorite song from her is 'Gunpowder and Lead,' and I cover that song. She's such a badass in the way she performs and writes music. She's such a woman powerhouse for country women. She hunts, she uses guns, and she's so comfortable onstage. She writes her own music, and there's a lot to be said for people who write their own music."
We were nearing the end of our interview when we asked Loren, "Do you think that soul has a big influence in your music and why?" Without skipping a beat, she gave a spot-on answer applicable to all career fields. "It's so important to have soul and passion and drive in what you do as an artist," she said. "You gotta put your heart and soul into your passion, and it helps you excel when you have passion for what you do." Preach, girl. - New Times

This is a cool story. We're in a meeting and we were talking about our amazing street team in the promotions dept. Newcomer Taylor Loren has already gotten the nod from Nashville Songwriters' Association International receiving the accolade "One to Watch." She's working hard at honing her songwriting craft and was recently invited to the Play for Publishers three day workshop at the Bluebird Cafe. "It's an honor to be included with such talented up and coming songwriters," she says. While Loren aspires to be a successful songwriter, she also enjoys performing and playing whether it be acoustically or with her band.
She's been playing guitar and singing since the age of ten when she got her first guitar for Christmas. She grew up on a healthy dose of Patsy Cline, Dixie Chicks and Johnny Cash. Loren loves playing the oldies and is excited by country music's return to a more traditional sound. She's inspired by Chris Stapleton, Aubrie Sellers, Haily Whitters and Maren Morris. "It's refreshing to see country music going back to its roots," says Loren.
Currently, Loren is working on a full album. She's looking forward to creating a raw, traditional sound that reflects her vulnerability as an artist. "I'm constantly growing and evolving as an artist, and right now I'm just enjoying the journey." And given what she's accomplished so far, it's going to be exciting to see where that journey leads Loren.
