Millyz – “WDC” (Feat. Gio Dee)

After collaborating last year, Millyz and Gio Dee followed up 2014’s “Legacy” with “WDC,” topping their previously released joint effort en route to delivering a heavy menacing anthem. Fueled by the money, the Ric and Thadius produced song features effortless verses from Millyz that are cadence driven and are connected by a strong, melodic hook from Gio, which lays nicely over the booming production. It’s a strong offering that will have you hitting the play button over and over. From the pair of releases that these two have given us, it’s safe to say that if they ever decide to take the time out and put a collaborative body of work together, it would likely be a good one and be well-received by both of their fan bases. – @LindseyGamble_

Nick Gray –“Favors”

A few years ago, the trio of Jefe Replay, Cousin Stizz, and Nick Gray made up a collective known as Pilot Nation. And they actually released a solid tape in Expensive Heat. Fast forward to now, the three are still making music, but as solo artists and its paying off. Stizz is on his way to becoming a national star, Replay is picking up steam, and Gray is heading in the right direction after a short hiatus.

On his birthday, Gray returned with the self-produced “Favors.” From the flow to the colorful production and carefree Ryan Schaefer directed visual, it was enjoyable and a smart choice to re-introduce himself. Gray shined the most during his Pilot Nation days, crafting nifty hooks so its no surprise that he did the same on “Favors.” – @LindseyGamble_

OG Swaggerdick- “Foxes (Can’t Blame Her)”

An artist and entertainer of the rarest form, OG Swaggerdick followed up his 2014 Game Boy Colored release this year by delivering W.A.L.L.I. (We All Look Like Idiots). And while some may categorize OG for hilarious antics, the project showcased OG leveling up musically by putting his vulnerability and emotion on display. W.A.L.L.I. is a fun and compelling listen from front to back, but just as “D.O.L.L.A.R.” shined on Game Boy Colored, the album is graced with an absurdly catchy record in “Foxes (Can’t Blame Her)”.

Produced by common collaborator Ben Neary as well as Casper & B, the track is an energetic groove which allows OG to share his thoughts on all the gold-diggers out there “Say she want all the designer things, but that bitch dont want no wedding ring, yeah she just wanna live the fancy life, but she aint tryin to be nobody wife, and I can’t blame her”. The infectious delivery from OG meshes seamlessly with the vibrant production and I’ve found myself randomly humming along the chorus throughout the latter half of 2015. Conceptually created and executed in the style we’ve come to expect from Swaggerdick, “Foxes (Can’t Blame Her)” should be included in your “THIS FO ALL MY INDEPENDANT TRICKIN HOES/WOMEN/LADIES BOUT THEY $$$ TRYNNA GET FUCKED & DRUNK YOU FEEL ME?” playlists. –@EBernsen

Rosewood Bape – “Miles”

Rosewood Bape’s songwriting skills hasn’t gone unnoticed. The same thing can be said for his silky smooth flow. In 2015, he jumped on the radar as an artist to look out for due to a trio of songs (“Taxi,” Miles,” and “Ready Set Go”) that appropriately highlighted his talents. Depending on your particular taste, any of these three could make a run at being one of Boston’s best songs of 2015, however we feel that “Miles” is the most polished cut out of the batch and the one that has gotten the best response from fans and even area DJ’s like EDubble.

With a bit of Auto-Tune, Rosewood croons his way over a sonically pleasing backing about racking up some miles on that special girl. The result is a hypnotizing anthem that is radio friendly. Based on the quality of the song, “Miles” underachieved when it came to blog attention. That doesn’t matter though. Through Vines, IG, and Snapchat videos, his loyal fans spread the song throughout the Internet. Off the strength of “Miles” alone, we’re excited to hear what his debut project Rosewood sounds like. Let’s hope it arrives sooner than later. – @LindseyGamble_

StupidGenius (Feat. Tory Lanez) – “Clean”

Sometimes big features can be forced and actually hinder the growth of any particular artist or group. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case with Lowell’s StupidGenius, the budding hip-hop duo composed of Lil Rich and Chaz King. Produced by Rich and TJ Beats, “Clean” features a guest hook by Tory Lanez and during the time of the release of the song, the Canadian rapper’s buzz was at an all time high. Yes, the Lanez hook makes the song attractive especially to new listeners, but Lanez hook or not, “Clean” is a spacey song that is easy on the ears. Not to mention, it foreshadowed the release of a slew of strong songs including “Meditate” and “Ocean Drive.” - Lindsey Gamble

"StupidGenius Roll Up "Clean" With Tory Lanez"

Based on what we've already heard from StupidGenius—a rap set from Lowell, an old mill town north of Boston—have been gunning to catch the Toronto wave, with a back catalog that takes cues from the slurry, sung-rap that seems to be increasingly prevalent in the North (and elsewhere) these days. Case in point: "Clean," which features meme talk, doleful and bottom-heavy production by Lil Rich and TJ Beats that might as well be a product of S.O.T.A. Studios, as well as verse from an actual Toronto resident, Tory Lanez. Make yourself acquainted with StupidGenius below. We hear (and hope) there is more like this to come. - Zara Golden

"StupidGenius Find Peace In Profit On Meditate"

Last month we were introduced to StupidGenius, a rap set hailing from a mill town just north of Boston who are making future R&B that sounds straight out of S.O.T.A. studios. Today they are back for round two: "Meditate," a viscous, money over matter proclamation produced by Lil Rich. As the refrain goes: It may not be for you, but it's for me/ Money helped me meditate.
"We wanted to make a record that speaks to everyone, but at the same time keep it real with ourselves and what we go through," the duo told The FADER. "Feeling at peace with your pockets after the struggle, we thought anyone can relate."
Listen to "Meditate" below. And keep an eye out for StupidGenius' new Mixtape, coming soon. - Zara Golden

"Premiere: StupidGenius links with Cousin Stizz on "Ocean Drive""

Massachusetts duo StupidGenius, which is made up of cousins Chaz King and Lil Rich, are looking to end the year with a bang. Though 2015 has been good to the duo—with the release of their successful self-titled project and a collab with Tory Lanez—they're looking to take things even further in 2016.

Today, they debut their new song, "Ocean Drive," which is produced by DumDrumz and features an explosive guest appearance from Cousin Stizz. The calm and smooth production sets the table for some high level rapping, as Stizz, Chaz, and Rich all snap during their respective verses while sharing a collective wave and cohesiveness throughout. Look for StupidGenius' new project, Game Changers, to drop in January, and catch up on their back catalog via their SoundCloud page here. "Ocean Drive" can be streamed below. - Edwin Ortiz

Bio

StupidGenius is an American hip hop duo composed of two cousins, Chaz King and Lil Rich from Lowell, Massachusetts. The group is mainly known from their self released single titled "Clean" featuring Interscope Records recording artist "Tory Lanez". The oxymoron driven name "StupidGenius" was derived from what they call their lifestyle, staying down to earth but at the same time trying to be great. Also continuing to "try new things.
The duo has been working for several years starting out with the name prior to StupidGenius "YIC (Youngest In Charge)", making music from out of each other's households starting out in 2008. Around late 2010, they would then each pick up producing and then started to make music for themselves, creating a local buzz through word of mouth and the internet as well. In fall 2012, they would both attend a technical school titled "CDIA (Center For Digital Imaging Arts)" which was branched from Boston University, they both majored in audio engineering and would go on to graduate in the summer of 2014. Between the time of them going to school, StupidGenius continued to release music to maintain local relevance, both of them worked on solo projects helping each other out collectively through 2013 and 2014. The traction became in the fall of 2014 when they released the first visual to their song for their self-titled mixtape, titled Pull Up. Which debuted on WorldStarHipHop. Singles from the group debut would surface on HotNewHipHop before the mixtape actually released. The most current music they've released has been receiving more acknowledgement due to releasing an onslaught of singles with Tory Lanez which debuted on The Fader, a solo effort following up Clean titled "Meditate" which was also debuted on The Fader. StupidGenius' latest work "Ocean Drive" featuring other uprising Boston artist Cousin Stizz has also added fuel to the fire, being premiered via Complex (magazine).
