Strata Obscura is now joined by singer Kayla Jacobs on the newly released Only To Wake album.
Strata Obscura blends an eclectic mix of influences and styles centered on a foundation of an alternative rock/funk four piece band. Grooves, hooks, and riffs combine to make tight catchy songs.
Strata Obscura is a band formed to explore the idea of exploring songs. Writing and recording songs in a studio, and performing them live, are as different expressions to musicians as oil and watercolor are to painters. From a precisely crafted studio recording to a passonate live performance the expression of musical moments are volatile, transitory and yet timeless.
Strata Obscura began on a snowy night in February, 2011. What started as a response to a songwriting challenge, guitarist Steve Crocker and vocalist Heather Wallick wrote and recorded The Elaborate Scheme. A mix of eclectic styles inspired by unfulfilled plans.
Joined by Dominic French on drums and Kenneth March on bass, Strata Obscura, took to the stage performing The Elaborate Scheme. Reinterpreting the core songs for a live four-piece band led to the recording of In The Moment, a live-in-the-studio album capturing Strata Obscura's early shows.
