posted September 14th 2005 at southflorida.com/citylink, Sweeney claims "my $10 didn't just buy a few gallons of water or a couple of MREs; it got me into an excellent show" and "SOSOS, the five-piece band, put on an excellent performance. Instead of the usual drums-and-bass rhythm section, the band had a drummer and a percussionist on djembe, which naturally gave the outfit a hippie vibe. Covers of Ben Harper's "Steal My Kisses" and The Beatles' "Don't Let Me Down" confirmed this. The band shines where it needs to; the guitar was front and center in the Harper cover, while the vocal harmonizing was good in the Beatles song." - South Florida City Link by Dan Sweeney

This past sprint, the local music scene came together to raise money and awareness in the wake of the South Asian tsunami; now it's doing so again for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Special thanks go out to the musicians and organizers of the following benefit events. These guys let us show our support and have a good time while we're at it: Sweetleaf Syndicate, the SOSOS, Teri Caitlan, Fourth Dimension, J.P. Hodges writes "When I finally pried myself away from another somber star-studded network telethon to benefit the Hurricane Katrina recovery, I ventured out to see what was happening around town. I found that celebrities aren't the only ones who can put together a great fund-raiser. Many South Florida bands are donating the proceeds from their shows and setting up links to donate on their websites. Last month the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale hosted the Jam for Humanity. 'Over 300 poeple showed up,' said concert promoter Mimi Bui, 'and we raised over $5,500.' Bands like Sweetleaf Syndicate, SOSOS, Teri Caitlin, Fourth Dimension, JP Soars and Billy Vasquez, Joel DaSilva of the Hep Cat Boo Daddies, and Super Jam with members of Crazy Fingers rocked the Room. 'The local musicians really pulled together and put on spectacular performances,' Bui said. The American Red Cross expects to put $2 billion into the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, said Ivana Lodovici of the Broward County chapter. 'These events get some attention on the problem,' Lodovici said." - Audra Hodges at www.losmag.com

December 5th sosos opened up for Blind Melon in Fort Lauderdale. The four surviving Blind Melon members reunited in the summer of 2006, with Travis Warren taking Hoon's spot behind the mic. The group plans on recording a new album for release in 2008, which will also be supported by a tour (the group's first since 1995). Dear Chris,
Thanks for submitting the material for the evaluation.
I enjoyed listening to the songs. This was one of the strongest submissions in your genre via Sonicbids. Nice work coming out of Florida!
To give you insight to the scoring scale above, the majority
of artists score in the 2.5 to 3.5 range in the various categories.
Whenever an artist sees a 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 or 3.5 as a score in a certain category (or categories) it means that's an area I feel they need to improve and develop.
When someone sees 4, 4.5 or 5 as their score in a category, that tells them, to me, they are in the professional league and have strong potential. It's a validation from a pro, letting you know you are doing a fine job.
Every artist should work hard to earn 4.5 to 5 in every category.
It's a very competitive business and people averaging in the 3's (or less) will probably not get too far without a great deal of improvement and development.
I don't give out 4's and 5's easily, so any of those you see, you have earned. Well done!
One thing to keep in mind, at least for your songs designated as "Singles" (the songs geared towards winning over radio stations and record company executives) - try to keep Intros to under 10 seconds and try to reach the Chorus between the 40 and 43 second mark.
If it's 44 seconds or longer and the Chorus did not kick in yet, you should edit the song's arrangement accordingly.
In rap music, the chorus can come in at the 55 to 58 second mark or so, since the verses are traditionally longer, compared to pop and rock music.
For a free resource of helpful information, I encourage you to visit the "Press & Media" section of my Web site, http://www.FoleyEntertainment.com
You will see links to four television interviews that are filled with advice and tips that may be of help to you.
If you are trying to gain the attention of record companies, music publishers, booking agents or top managers, make sure your game plan includes radio promotion, publicity, lots of gigs, Internet marketing and CD sales, at the minimum.
Just having a great CD and live show are no longer enough in today's music business.
For information about my popular and career enhancing Artist Development Program, feel free to send me your mailing address. I can put a brochure in the mail ASAP.
I'm sure that your career would benefit from an educational phone consultation with an experienced, knowledgeable and respected professional.
It's a great time to start mapping out your game plan, having your industry questions answered and building your Team of professionals. Foley Entertainment could be a great resource for your career.
Also - on the Sonicbids Web site, the only choices the system gave me were -- "Selected" "Standby" or "Not Selected."
So I chose "Selected" for your submission, as it was the best of the three choices.
For the Foley Entertainment opportunity, none of those categories really apply, because EVERYONE qualifies for the professional evaluation and feedback.
It's more of an educational opportunity for everyone who submits - not a contest where only a select few will win or benefit.
I guess the majority of the Sonicbids opportunities are for contests, festivals and things like that, where some artists are chosen and some are not.
Let's begin a dialogue and see if there's a way we can work together.
Thank you for the submission and continued best wishes!
Keep me posted Chris.
Best wishes,
Eugene Foley

Top Five Local Bands To Catch At SunFest 2014
The last weekend in April means the same thing each year for a dedicated South Floridian: live music and long nights in downtown West Palm Beach at SunFest. And while the Robin Thickes and Kid Rocks of the world will no doubt bring the dancing queens and country kings to town, this is a key time to absorb those acts that make our local live music scene special too. Bands that play in your backyard all year will also grace the SunFest stages.
So, we wonder, who will be the next local band to come full circle? We can't quite crown the next victor, but we can decide on our top picks for Florida bands playing SunFest 2014.
SOSOS:
Considering our current swampy local music climate, it's only appropriate that a rootsy bluegrass band made the stage. We're pretty impressed to see SOSOS on the bill. The Fort Lauderdale-based band cut its teeth touring with Donavon Frankenreiter and G. Love and Special Sauce, but now it's ready to bring its talents back to the home front. Guitarist Mitch Herrick knows that even with all the time on the road, "The fact that we are going to be a part of what is considered one of the biggest Florida music events on our home turf makes us very proud." - New Times
SOSOS, regulars at the Funky Biscuit in Boca and JB’s
in Deerfield, have developed a devoted following
over their 10 years playing in South Florida.
Whether fans come to shows for their melodic, up-beat
acoustic sets or to groove along with their poetic lyrics,
there’s a reason these guys attract a loyal crowd.
In addition to the usual unplugged suspects —
guitar, drums, violin, upright bass, harmonica
— SOSOS incorporate a number of unique
instruments into their shows such as a mandolin,
doumbek (a Middle Eastern goblet drum),
djembe (a Western African drum), even an old
preachers pump organ.
You never know what you’re going to get at a
SOSOS show other than a soulful performance.
And the best part is, a performance is not hard to
find. These guys love to play, and they perform all
across the tri-county area.
In May alone you can find them at JB’s on the
Beach in Deerfield Beach on May 3, SunFest
WPB on May 4, Orange Blossom Jamboree in
Brooksville, Riverwalk’s Burger Battle on Las Olas, Vega
Lounge in Pompano Beach and that’s just to name a few!
SOSOS also kicks off their U.S. East Coast Tour in June!

November 1, 2013 | Lee Zimmerman
Music vet and New Times scribe Lee Zimmerman shares observations, insights, and updates relating to South Florida's musical environs. This week, SOSOS's Americana indulgence.
I've mentioned it before in this column, but I suspect I'm slowly losing the argument. "South Florida has never been a haven for genuine Americana." We are, after all, more acclimated to tropical climes, hardly synonymous for the wide prairies and dusty realms that inspire rootsy inclinations. But, I'm being proven wrong. Take a look at the music made by Jim Wurster or the 18 Wheelers or any of a number of singer-songwriters eager to sing their heartfelt laments. Indeed, maybe I needn't grouse at all.
The latest outfit to convince me I'm mistaken is SOSOS, a band I was introduced to by promoter Chrystal Hartigan. She was touting the fact that the group has been selected to participate in this year's Rombello Cruise, which departs from Miami this Friday, November 1. They'll be appearing alongside Michael Franti and Spearhead, G. Love & Special Sauce, State Radio, Donavon Frankenreiter, and Rebelution. Not bad, especially considering the fact that over 1,500 acts submitted their music to ReverbNation, the cruise's sponsor, and only one -- that being SOSOS -- made the cut. - NEW TIMES
October 2013 | Aaron Paul
Even Within an Acoustic Rock Ensemble
Songwriters Chris Monteleone and Mitch Herrick used the phrase "no glitter, no glam" to describe SOSOS, an acoustic root rock band. However, their musical talent and personalities make up for the lack of glitter and glam. - GO RIVERWALK

Bio
Displaying a diverse balance of talent that brews up catchy tunes, SOSOS captivates audiences with their smart musical melodies and lush vocal harmonies.
Unusual?.. Not really. But, you could say SOSOS is a band that strays from the usual because they solely base their music around acoustic root instruments.
Upright bass, pump organ, acoustic guitars, banjo, mandolin, djembe, drums, melodica, and even a box of rocks at times keeps SOSOS generating their own brand of energy even if the power lines go down!
SOSOS has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with:
Robin Thicke, Kid Rock, Goo Goo Dolls, Cake, Ellie Goulding, Alice In Chains, Blues Traveler, The Whalers, Dick Dale, Dropkick Murphy's, Rusted Root, Sublime with Rome, Blind Melon, Pretty Lights, The Avett Brothers, Michael Franti, G Love and Special Sauce, Donavon Frankenreiter, Poco, Jason Isbel, State Radio, Donna The Buffalo, Del McCory Band, J Cole, The Doobie Bros, Dirty Heads, Trombone Shorty, Inner Circle, Rebolution, Ozomatli, Tribal Seeds, Punch Brothers, JJ Grey, Andrews Osbourne, Marc Broussard, Steep Canyon Rangers, Green Sky Bluegrass, Orleans, Bobby Lee Rogers & Richie Havens.
SOSOS was named a "Top 10" artist by REVERBNATION for 2013 and has performed as a main stage act at:
- SunFest 2014
- ROMBELLO (2013)(Sixthman Cruise)
- Suwanee Springfest (2012, 2014)
- Orange Blossom Jamboree (2012, 2013, 2014)
- Sony Open Tennis Finals (2013, 2014)
- Virginia Key Grassroots Festival (2013, 2014)
- Palm Beach Food and Wine Festival (2012, 2013)
- Deland Music Festival (3 stages, 1 day)(2012)
- Aura Music Festival (2012)
- Miami Music Conference (2012)
- Citylink Beerfest (2011)
- Rocktober Fest (2011)
- Earthday Fest (2011)
SOSOS music has made the back drop to many TV shows as well. PBS's "Roadtrip Nation" used four sosos songs in five different episodes. Other artists used in the show include Jack Johnson, Donavon Frankenreiter, Sufjan Stevens, Brett Dennon, Toubab Krewe, and Xavier Rudd. Networks such as NBC, WB and WGN America also found sosos music useful in some of their programs: "Friday Night Lights, Life, Jack and Bobby, and Around The World for Free".
