Singer-songwriter Simone Nicole is an extremely talented artist out of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Simone started off by playing regularly at coffee houses, restaurants, bars, country clubs and house parties. Her sound garnered her much praise and attention leading to the release of her first EP, 'Hanging on a Cloud', in 2011. With the release of this EP, Simone began playing larger venues like House of Blues in Dallas and The Kessler Theatre. One of her newly released singles, “Golden Ticket,” is a great showcase of her entrancing sound that has grown her popularity.

The song begins with a soft, melodic, finger-style guitar line. After a brief intro Simone enters with the vocals for the first verse singing, “You're so far away from home/The only place I want to go/It's better than being here alone tonight.” Her voice shimmers with crystal clarity and a bright tone that sends shivers down your spine the moment the verse begins. Upon reaching the chorus, the instrumental arrangement builds with the addition of bass and drums.

“Golden Ticket” is a song about being deeply in love with someone who is not with you. Perhaps the timing is off. You would "cross the lines" to make it happen, but that is not always reality. While she paints the image of longing for that special someone, she reinforces the theme in the chorus singing, “If we were in a different world, a different time/You wouldn't believe how many times I'd cross/All the lines to make you mine/'Cause baby you're so beautiful, and wonderful/I'd take you with me everywhere I go.” The sweet, simple melodies of “Golden Ticket” will leave a lasting impression of Simone, leaving you wanting to hear more.

Simone Nicole is a singer-songwriter from Dallas, Texas. Brandishing a pure and beautiful tone, Simone’s music and lyrics tap into a place of raw emotion that creates an extremely moving musical experience. “Blind” starts off with a slow and simple acoustic guitar strumming with a light picking pattern. Shortly following is the entrance of Simone’s lush and inviting vocals. The simplicity of the music landscape and the pure beauty of Simone's vocal tone, accompanied by the soft guitar, creates a beautiful blend. It is the type of entrance that sends shivers up your spine and immediately draws you in.

After the first chorus, a light percussion enters along with some vocal harmonies making for an indulgent sound. There is also a lovely and tasteful guitar solo that cries with the song instead of overpowering it. The musicianship is tight featuring Tim Phelan, drums; Brendan Gilman, electric guitar and basee; Drew Harakal, keys. The song has great production, placing the vocals perfectly above the mix.

In the song “Blind,” Simone uses poetic, raw and honest lyrics paired with gorgeous melodies and the result is a song that will stick in your head long after you’ve heard it. In the chorus she sings, “You are my setting sun. Last sight of light I see. Before I let in the misery. You are my setting sun. Last sight of light I see. So detached from reality. You turn me blind.” Simone sings these words with such passion that listeners connect with her music effortlessly. There is an overall melancholy mood to the song that is very moving.

NEUKIRCH-EGNACH. Die kleine Simone war ein scheues Mädchen. Sie liebte die Musik. Schon immer. Ihr Vater ein Gitarrist, die Mutter eine leidenschaftliche Sängerin, gehörte die Musik ganz normal zum Alltag der schweizerisch-amerikanischen Familie, die in Florida lebte, ein paar Jahre in der Schweiz zu Hause war und jetzt dann in Texas wohnt. Nur selten aber hörte jemand das Mädchen singen, viel lieber hörte sie zu. Bis ihre Mutter der kleinen Simone einen Kassettenrekorder schenkte und sie darauf ein selber komponiertes Lied aufnahm. Im Kleiderkasten, damit sie niemand hören konnte.

Als die 12-Jährige später dieses Lied «Not Where I Wonna Be» («Nicht da, wo ich sein möchte») ihrer Mutter vorspielte, konnte diese es fast nicht fassen. Dieses stimmige Lied soll ihre Tochter geschrieben haben? Diese schöne Stimme soll ihrer Simone gehören?

Von Dallas nach Neukirch

Mittlerweile ist Simone Nicole zehn Jahre älter und nicht mehr ganz so scheu, aber immer noch eine zurückhaltende, junge Frau. Für ein knappes Jahr hat sie ihre Heimatstadt Dallas in Texas mit dem ländlichen Neukirch-Egnach getauscht, der Heimat ihrer Mutter und ihrer eigenen zweiten Heimat. Denn schon als Kind lebte sie mit ihrer Familie ein paar Jahre in Amriswil, spricht deshalb auch gut Schweizerdeutsch.

Ihren Traum, als Sängerin durchstarten zu können, hat sie in ihren Koffer mit eingepackt. Sie hat in der Schweiz an Castings für TV-Shows teilgenommen – unter anderem am Vorsingen für «Voice of Switzerland» – doch es hat nicht gereicht für die nächste Runde. Aber von der Jury hat sie Komplimente für ihre schöne Stimme bekommen. Eine gute Erfahrung mehr. «Es braucht viel Durchhaltewillen. Ich weiss tief in mir drin, dass ich diesen Weg gehen möchte und dafür alles gebe», sagt sie.

Sie denke viel darüber nach, wie es mit ihr weitergehen werde, doch die Antwort, ob sie wirklich alles auf die Karte Singen setzen soll, laute immer aus vollem Herzen «Yes!». «Ich möchte nichts anderes machen, als Sängerin sein», sagt sie. «Die Musik bedeutet mir viel. Ich singe viel lieber, als dass ich rede.»

CD und Videoclips

In Amerika sei sie in fünf Minuten mit ihrem Auto mitten in der Stadt, hier in der Schweiz habe sie gelernt, sich mit Bus und Zug fortzubewegen. «Ich habe die grüne Natur hier schätzengelernt und schon viel von der Schweiz gesehen, von Zermatt bis St. Moritz, von Luzern über Zürich bis Basel.»

Ihre Musik verbreitet Simone Nicole über YouTube oder über ihre eigene Website. Der aktuellste Song, das Duett «How About (We Share Some Laughter)», ist auch wie ihr Lied «Smile» über i Tunes zu kaufen. Dank Freunden und Bekannten konnte sie eine CD produzieren und hat professionelle Videos zu ihren Liedern gedreht. Die Filmerei und Fotografie ist eine weitere grosse Leidenschaft der 22-Jährigen. Zu vielen ihrer Lieder hat sie eigene Clips gedreht, an denen sie oft nächtelang arbeitet.

Ein Lied in fünf Minuten

Als Schlagzeugerin war Simone Nicole zwei Jahre Mitglied in einer Band. «Mein Stil ist aber eher ruhiger, nicht so sehr Rock 'n ' Roll.» Deshalb gehe sie heute ihren eigenen Weg mit Musik im Indie-, Pop-, Singer/Songwriter- oder Alternativ-Rock-Stil. Mit einigem Erfolg: Immer mehr werde sie in ihrer Heimatstadt Dallas gebucht für verschiedene Auftritte.

In der Schweiz wohnt sie bei Freunden der Familie in Neukirch und jobbt etwas, um den Alltag bestreiten zu können. Daneben schreibt sie auch Songs mit Inspirationen aus ihrer neuen Umgebung. «Meistens habe ich zuerst den Text für ein neues Lied, und erst nachher kommt die Melodie dazu.» Es komme vor, dass sie innerhalb von fünf Minuten ein Lied schreiben könne. Aber heute hat sie keinen Grund mehr, sich dafür in den Kleiderkasten zurückzuziehen. - Christa Kamm-Sager
