Bio
As a Christmas baby born in Detroit's winter of '94, I'm no newcomer to miracles. DK, an acronym for both my real name and "Dropping Knowledge", came to life as college began to burn me out. I was an accountant at Georgia State, commuting from my uncle's house in the suburbs. Up until that point I was simply attempting to meet my family's expectations as I was projected to be that golden child that makes it out of the hood. The pressure and yearning for validation pushed me to overwhelmingly dark places, to an extent that my hair started to fall out. I fell into a deep depression and began to isolate myself. Fortunately during this time I began to realize my passion for Hip-Hop through the music I was consuming like The Waters by Mick Jenkins and Kendrick's legendary To Pimp A Butterfly, along with the creation of my own music. I began to reflect on other times I let myself slip into this space, particularly before and after my brain surgery, which occurred while I was in high school and managed to get strep throat and a sinus infection simultaneously. I started to question what my idea of success was, why I had built up so much resentment about things that were my responsibility at the end of the day, and what it meant to actually love yourself. This is my story.
